  • JATo=Jet assisted take off. Yes they are rockets, No, it's not RATO, deal with it.

  • I wish they would do that at the Indianapolis Air Show!

  • "Relax boys, we're going home"

  • 0:37 Does the horizontal stabilizer catch on fire from the rocket??

  • I love the C130.

  • NECK

  • Looked like it was going to start the tail on fire.

  • That was an impressive climb! I only wish I could have seen that in person.

  • slap those on a 747, dont tell anyone on board and install cameras above every seat, plus a urine detector in the cushions that is attached to a big red light next to the headrest. first video to get a trillion views on youtube.

  • Yes, Applaud at the primitive way we set off even more primitive planes.... If it burns it's cool... Signed the fucking yanks.

  • @Voxnulla

    Funny little troll.

  • @Voxnulla You're aware that the Royal New Zealand Air Force has 5 of these "primitive" planes currently in service, right?

  • @Felamine Really? 5! Amazing, sealing your friendship and loyalty with your neighbouring country through lacking military equipment.

Almost as useful as the Nepalese navy.

  • @Voxnulla Interesting that the 130 is still used as the primary delivery system of the MOAB and is also often used as a gunship... Not to mention that, like the A10, you can practically fly them backwards. They can carry a large payload and are generally very capable planes, despite their perhaps archaic design...

  • But seriously I was not expecting that one bit

  • Oops, gotta blast! - Jimmy neutron.

  • at first I read "Fat albert assisted jack-off" kind a makes sense too

  • this tichnology used in su 22 russian fighter jet in fiftih last century

  • Wohooo ! Wow !

  • Oh, Mary! You're rear-end's on fire!

    LOL

  • lmao..."gotta go"

  • What a great video! It's nice to see the capabilities of the C-130 from time to time. As taxpayers we really got our money's worth with the C-130, it's been in service a long time and will still be in service for some time to come. Props to the US Navy for putting on one hell of a show! I salute you!

  • Sweet ride!

  • those are the same rockets i have on my car

  • @thenoobhunter01 yes try with 1 rocket and u end up in the air at 220 mph :)

  • holy shit EPIC

  • Caramba é muito Lindo,gostei muito

  • I need that for my car

  • Getting off a short runway with wounded, in combat zone, with that Jato boost could save lives.

  • NAVY color!

  • fat albert is the coolest plane ever

  • Try playing this to Guile's theme!

  • I like how the tail wings are smoking after being scorched by the flames.

  • Disregard, I just reread the beginning.

  • Cool! Just asking though, are those really jets, or are they rockets?

  • The always classic JATO by the Hercules. Favorite Aircraft take offs along with the RAF Vulcan Bomber and the B1 Lancer Bomber.

  • Pilot: And we have reached take off speed, start to increase pit....... Oh Shit Oh Shit ! Too Much Too Much!

  • next take off on Friday baby!!!!!

  • I need a few of these for my truck!

  • The C-5A was nicknamed "Fat Albert". FYI

  • was is suposed to do that or was it kinda one fire?

  • oops spelt it wrong :(

  • You seriously need a camera with a steadyshot, your hand shakes "a little". If the sound made you to shake, you're innocent :)

  • @ATHGT Buddy, if you had spent the time to read the caption: That video dates from 1997. How many V8 camcorders had an image stabilizer 14 years ago ?!? Then, tripods are not allowed in a grand stand. Then, on that huge crowd present this evening I'm apparently the only one who has taped it and has published it online.

  • @tvnshack I was thinking I wish my camera worked that well...I barely noticed how old the video is....

  • @tvnshack I think that was pretty good videoing... since back in 1997... camcorders were with VHS tapes and they were about the size of a TV tray!!! Since it was in 1997... I was in the Marines at MCAS EL TORO and my buddy and I were there at Miramar watching this show. It was great!!! I remember the "F-14 Super Tomcat???" at just past twilight as it lit its afterburners and went straight vertical. That was a great airshow!!! Thanks for post this video!!!

  • @85SuzukiMadura Hello buddy. That's great ! I think that Super Tomcat is in this other video of mine C79JnCssz5M I did taped the whole show and I have created some other videos with all action that could be used. Check the other videos of my channel. I went to another Miramar show and captured again Fat Albert take-off 1OZZ0egP3yo Funny, it's not as popular as this one here ... and it's less shaky. Take care !

  • @tvnshack - What is a V8 camcorder ?

  • @madderhatter It's a - 20+ years old now - camcorder tape format released first by Sony and then Canon. It was initially named Video8. It was monaural with great quality as the sound was recorded diagonally across the tape along with the image, as compared to the VHS format where sound is recorded at tape speed (tracks at bottom of tape). 8 meant 8mm, as for the width of the tape. V8 was soon replaced by Hi8 that had stereo. V8 tapes are smaller and more robust that VHS-C.

  • @tvnshack - Ahh, OK. I definitely remember the Hi8 tapes. Just never heard of the V8 before. Back on topic, it was always a treat to see Albert take off with those JATOs lit. When I was with the 43rd Fighter Squadron up at Elmendorf AFB back in the late-80s and early-90s we were always the host squadron whenever the Blue Angles would come up for a show. Good times.

  • @tvnshack Where exactly does it say the date?

  • @Vaneps0 Hello. It was August 16, 1997. The date was written in the title but at the time I posted that video the title length was limited and it got dropped. I've updated the description part. Sorry about that.

But if you're interested, I also posted the video of the 1998 show: 1OZZ0egP3yo

  • @tvnshack

    Respect dude! RESPECT!

  • @marinerheart Thanks a lot buddy, but I don't think I deserve so much praise!

  • wow!!!!

  • hey were those blue angel f 16 jets in the front

  • @coolmsky15 Yes and no; They were the Blue Angels' jets, but they are F/A-18s, not F-16s.

  • Now that is a way to get out of hostile territory.

  • I think I just saw my tax dollars blow out the back of the FAT ALBERT!

  • americans are always good at making things that make alot of black smoke

  • @TheSpeakers20

It only SEEMS like that to you. We happen to be the most transparent, honest and, inviting Nation on the face of the planet. I would think a Canadian would appreciate that.

  • according to Wikipedia: the blue angels' Fat Albert doesnt do this anymore at airshows due to diminishing qtys of rockets

  • Does the jet assist power surge cause any air pressure strain on the props, as

they are turning fast enough for propeller takeoff only??

  • @Fk67Lg Absolutely not: Prop blades are always generating lift (or more conventionnally "thrust"). The JATO booster only help reaching take-off speed, plus a bit extra energy to help on this steep climb without risking stalling.

  • @tvnshack True. the C-130 will fly even faster after the rockets have fired as it approaches its top speed. so the props wont be turning any faster than normal

  • @Fk67Lg fair point, i would think maybe the props are turning faster than they can physically drag the plane the whole time anyhow maybe ?

  • wooooooooooooooow

  • @99xlolo wooooooooooooow 2

  • One guy attached one of these to a car somewhere. May be an urban legend but I think it's true. He flew... briefly.

  • @sjgraemail2 Darwin Award, I remember that one clearly lol.

  • @GeneralArrow lol yeah I don't think he had much logistics on the landing bit.

  • Power...

  • Fricking awesome!!!!

  • read about the guy in the Darwin awards who bolted one of those onto his car and smoked himself into the side of a mountain (about half a mile away from the road he was driving on)

  • I would beg to differ, from what I understand, air shows are one of the military's most valuable recruiting tools.. Not to mention that the aerobatics they perform are rather safe compared to a civilian air show...

  • how much did this entertainment cost the taxpayers? These entertaining shows should be stopped for the risk to planes pilots and their cost for sheer entertainment. (it is fun to watch however)

  • @vanwahlgren because im sure these pilots and planes are in some real danger... -_- . and tax dollars... just about anything any government does people are gonna say its a waste of tax dollars arent they?

  • is this just for show? or is there actually a reason for being 'JATO'???

  • i dont know...the i find the nose of that aircraft very funny...it looks like a mouse nose!!!

  • I have three of these.

  • the fact that its rockets is even cooler!!

  • I thought the plane was going to stall 0_0

  • I want my next flight on a commercial airliner to do this! Looks WICKED!

  • OMG THATSSSS AWESOME!!!

  • I want that for my car

  • @luckysod04 a guy did that and hit a 3ft bump and slammed into the top of a mountain.

  • Just for the record the C-5A was the Fat Albert!

  • Uh, captain, I've got some bad news... maintenance accidentally reinstalled the rockets in the wrong spot, and we've burnt off the tail...

  • Poor Albert

  • i live in miramar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FUCK! See you later, bad guys...

  • just be-au-ti-ful

  • America, I fucking love you!

  • is it actually jet assisted or is it solid fuel rockets?

  • @imjustwonderful This has been discussed here already : It's solid fuel. However, as commented on the Wikipedia article, all such kind of take-off assistance is interchangeably and universally known as JATO. I've been 8 years in the Air Force and witnessed several JATO-assisted take off. Everyone used the word Jet. Keep in mind that a Jet of hot air can be produced either by the combustion of liquid fuel of solid fuel.

  • @tvnshack ok thanks. I remember it being extremely loud. besides a shorter take off, whats the use for JATO?

  • @imjustwonderful That's the only use. It has been designed for short take off. If you want to know more, look for ZELL (Zero Length Launch) "F-84 ZELL" for instance. That's another solution to the "short take off" problem.

  • @imjustwonderful shorter take off. higher climb rate. how is this a mystery?

  • @luckylongarm1i meant, why would this particular C-130 need JATO?

  • @imjustwonderful

It is also useful for getting an aircraft off the ground with a heavier than normal payload, and for reducing the power needed from the main engines at take off, thus allowing the aircraft to have more fuel available once it is in the air, so it will have a longer range with mure stuff onboard.

  • @tvnshack Maybe they should just rename it "Jet "ASSISTING" Take Off or something!? LOL

  • @CoMmUnIsTbLoK SImply NO

  • only in the usa

  • Miramar Tower," Fat Albert, affirmative, cleared for take-off 21.Climb instantly and maintain 1500 feet, reload rockets and climb to FL40".!!

  • I wonder how many people may have been exposed to the highly toxic Perchloride vapor from those rockets that day...

  • this is like fire fart onboard

  • propeller cargo plane with rockets in its ass crazy climbing... i must have drunk something :-D

  • Love the Fat Albert Show! Good job USMC!

  • That. Would. Be. So. Much. Fun.

  • i have the captain sim c-130 but wich button you got to press ?

  • do that plane normally does that or i a fire

  • @TheMuhammed05 its 2 high power jet/rockets attached to the back to give A LOT of extra trust during takeoff, but this plane is with the blue angels. the normal c-130 just has 4 blades and takes off like a normal plane(not vertically like this one did). this was purely designed for an airshow.

  • @8justin88 Sorry to burst your bubble. The JATO system on the C~130 was pioneered in the Vietnam war. Jungle runways were often short, and lets be honest, our planes took too much fire to be lollygagging with long take~offs. Jato was also used on the F~100 Super Sabre, which was an unruly god awful plane to fly. Yes this system was (and still is) used by the armed forces. It's not just for an airshow. Due diligence.

  • @8justin88 i didn't know that

  • holly cow

  • Great vid! Wish i was sitting in that plane for that demonstration!!

  • @blackpearl999999 so thats why they didnt do jato at the airshow last year. Thanks

  • Omg turbo O_O

  • looks like that plane ate at taco bell.

  • So win !

  • bah credible sport did it better.

  • @ZuDuka1 I lold

  • if you saw this in dallas im certain i was at the same airshow

  • i did that with my car 1ce, have any1 seen it....with my mother in law and ex?

  • awesome

  • wtf

  • I'mma firing mah lazah!

  • YAY BLUE ANGELS !!!!

  • this shit is so load hen it takes off lol

  • Мегарулиз)

  • it will make the g force down fall ur heart in amazing crush..

  • I guess the pilot has to be careful not to stall the engines when climbing like that

  • so that is the new turbo... =)

  • mirmar... always a great show its to bad that the blue angles had to stop the jato because of the stress its was putting on the body of "fat Albert"

  • that's not the only rocket that shoots up at a 45 degree angle *wink wink*

  • 15 secs of pure stress in the cockpit...

  • 0:38 is the tail burning?

  • @diioriog - No, that is the smoke from the boosters being deflected down by the horizontal stabilizer as the pilot was pitching the nose down for level flight and the flashes of light are reflections of the booster combustion.

  • I need JATOS for my Toyota Yaris 1.0 (68 hp)!!1 ;)

  • can it be also used as afterburner??

  • que, poha e essa ai, nao entendi, aqilo faz parte do aviao mesmo.

  • Now that is a great Vx take off.

  • I remember seeing them do this in an airshow a couple years ago. Damn those things are loud

  • wait.... those are thrusters?? i thought like the back of the plane caught fire....

  • Red Neck Science: Never underestimate its power

  • This is the captain speaking, we have lost the tail section! lol

  • lol, that's cheating

  • i didnt see that coming!

  • the commentator loves his job!

  • SUPER

  • I remember seeing that thing at the air show in Indy. Loudest thing I have ever heard in my life!

  • I put some of those on my bicycle .... 'twas fun :D

  • I've ridden in that plane when they came to my base, they pulled that shit and I pikes my guts out

  • That is amazing!

  • Sweet!

  • i was there at this 1.been to the show every year since 07

  • oh dang i thought the rear wings(forgot what there called) lit on fire

  • Do the rockets have a tactical application?

  • @modelleg

I'm only saying what I remember from going to a blue angels show several years ago, but I think it allows the plane to take off of a shorter runway and the angle and rate of climb makes it significantly harder to shoot down.

  • Awesome. That cannot be good for the runway. :)

  • it takes 15 secons for it to be in the air

  • Wow, what the fuck was that. Hmmm,NHRA here we come!!! Hmmm, something 2 think about?

  • Propellers + After Burners = Faster Travelling :P

  • shoot that enemy ac 130 out tha air!

  • @BLOODLINKCRU To me...It was a reflection on the tail that made it look on fire

  • жаль что не взорвалось(

  • is it just me? or was the planes tail on fire??!

  • @bloodlinkcru No, really was on fire!

  • VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO

  • this would be a kick ass 4th of july finally

  • I've seen the Blue Angles many times, but this is the most impressive part for me.

  • AWESOME!

  • Fantastic!

  • The guy on the mike sounds like Al from Family Guy...

Hi, I'm Al Harrington, President and CEO of Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium and Warehouse! Thanks to a shipping error I am now overstocked on wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men, and I am passing the savings on to *you*!

  • @DoriDori08 Howdee! This is the funniest comment I've seen posted on my vid ;-)

  • @tvnshack cool, it just reminded me straight away and i sat at the pc laughing my nuts off lol
