  • I remember having to use herbs and powder because we were supposed to experiment and learn our spells.

  • Yes this game still is online. Come play on darktide pvp server. Its so much fun.

  • Yep. All realms still open to play.

  • Does this game still work? Or like are the servers still running

  • are useful crafted items?

  • how much time to lvl cap? have much gank? quests gives a good xp or you only lvling with grind?

    thnks

  • do you still have to learn spells?

best thing about the game was being able to mix abilities

i was a melee fighter, and could create defensive spells for buffs...allowed me to beat monsters well above my level

also played the beta....coolest thing was when the beta went down and i just ran around getting killed over and over again until i was naked

  • I remember this one.. you could actually get lost running around.. the game had real magic in it.. you never had that hurry you have to hit some level to get some ability or any kind of gear, you just played it because it was fun. but those days are lost. they could just have some surgery on the servers and maybe reopen a new server so people could start over. does wonders on a mmo and worked on uo shards

  • This was the first video game i ever played. My late stepfather introduced me to it, and through it gaming as a whole.

Is there any way to play this now? I tried searching but there doesnt seem to be any activity...

  • @waffle652

Yes, you can still play. I still play and have been for 10 years, haha.

    asheronscall(dot)com/

  • @JakeLanning Yeah, i thought about trying to original website immediately after sending that comment...

  • they should make a new one with better graphics but equal interface and gameplay.

  • greatest game concept ever... if any other game used these ideas of characters and creation and fairness...would be the only game played.. is it not insane that a game like age of conan witch has the best graffics ever ... would not learn from this??? i cannot deal with wow or war or any or that horse crap... i just wish that a really good game would use the concept of AC...

  • i loved this game when i was a kid, ill miss it but

    good bye asherons call

  • I acutely wanted to try the game because I never got the chance BUT it wants my credit card info just for the trial which is kinda lame. I don't get that and don't think they should do that.

  • this game is amazing, really makes me wish that i had found it 10 years ago, instead of effing runescape...i wasted a lot of time on that stupid excuse for a game:(

  • Awesome video man :D This is an amazing game.

  • I played AC from launch in 99 - 2002, when MS did AC 2 and failed miserably at it. Every now and then i think about the game and how incredibly awesome it was.

The thing that made me choose WoW over AC (once they relaunched it) was the fact that when you died you had a vitae penalty, lost items and had to run LONG DISTANCES to recover your lost items, and quest for XP to fix the penalty.

  • @EricAntiHero If that's the only reason, that was a bad decision. So much in the game out weighs the insignificant inconveniance of vitae.

  • I went back to the game after posting this. Tried it out, loved the new training areas. Played for about 3 days and hit Level 30, but the game lost me. Too many die hard people have been playing for so many years that it's impossible to level up in groups. It's a great game for those that never left, but if you want to start anew, its just not worth it anymore. In WoW i have a bunch of Real life friends playing, and enjoy it. AC lost me forever, I will remember it fondly, but its over.

  • @EricAntiHero I can see your point of view on AC, it seems that 99% of the playerbase are people who have been playing for a long time. My biggest issue with the game in its current state is level restricted dungeons and quests... I feel they should be removed, especially when so many of them give you a percent of your level anymore.

  • gotta love that in 2010 with Youtube AC is getting more advertising then when MS had it in `99.

    Max the Archer, Solclaim.

  • u know what ima try this....

  • @xblizkx OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!

  • Yeah?!

    Damn!

I'm in there right now, actually.

  • So . . . what's the monthly FU fee?

  • $13/month. Keep in mind though that this game isn't like everquest or world of warcraft where they demand that you buy an expansion pack every year just to get new content... this is included with the subscription. Usually they do 1-2 major updates in any given year, the rest being minor updates/new dungeons/items etc.

Some feel its pricey, but they do what they can to make sure you get your money's worth.

  • Whoa.

    What?

Under $15 per month, no expansion pack bull$h!+, and true free-motion movements in battle allowing ME to decide the outcome instead of some 40 year old D&D probability engine?!

    I'm sold, and I HATE MMO's.

This will at definitely keep me busy until the Star Trek MMO hits the shelves . . . maybe even AFTER!

    SWEET!

  • Well you'll be the first truly new player in Asheron's Call since before the Trade Centers fell.

Welcome, and may I recommend a sever for you? Darktide...

  • Heh, I'd only recommend Darktide after getting a feel for the game... otherwise it'll just be a frustrating PvP newb gank-fest.

  • Damn.

Now I feel like trying out Darkfall, Mortal Online AND Asheron's Call D:

All three of those games have the features you just counted up.

  • /fillcomps hahahahaha

  • is this game HARD to play?

It looks very hard with the combat system and all...?

  • I will tell you this. PvP combat is essentially the HARD MODE of Asheron's Call, as you have to start out by avoiding other players while strengthening your abilities.

As far as normal gameplay goes, melee characters are easiest, ranged are moderate, and mages are hardest (because you have to know how to organize spells/manage mana).

Sometimes difficulty of play is a choice. Yes, you can go full blown melee by only specializing combat skills, or you can mix it up and take alchemy/cooking/magic

  • Unfortunatly, its the 3rd party programs and ridiculous buffs that killed much of its excitement and mechanics. Rewind AC 6 years, and youve got my favorite game of all time.

  • I remember a friend of mine taking alchemy . he didnt realize you actually used your life to make healing potions and fell dead right in the middle of town lol

  • Level 8 spells now? interesting, I must find footage of that! I loved AC:DT so much but gave away my 275 UA Melee and 250 Mage before I quit, I miss the game so much, but shall never return.

  • lmao "You'll want to take advantage of that. 'Cause if you don't, you'll get the crap kicked out of you" xD

  • k, i mean what program did u use to film the game ingame?

  • Oh, in that case I used a program called "WebCamMax". It can record any portion of your screen in real time, it's really nifty and easy to use.

  • what video program did u use?

  • I Used windows movie maker. While this program does all the basic functions well enough. My only gripe is that because this video is composed of hundreds of miniclips, it slowed the program to a crawl and it was hard to work with. I have a fast computer too, so it's the program, not the hardware. In the future i'm going to try other video editing software in hopes that its snappier and more flexible. Blue/greenscreen special effects wouldn't hurt either.

  • Good job... makes me miss the game more

  • Very nice Job ... Turbine should hire your skills.

  • That bit about only players who are very skilled in life magic should try and play a mage without mana c might mislead people into thinking that if you can do it you should.

  • Good point. It's not always feasible to go without the skill, but, for those who really want to use that extra 6 credits for another skill, (and have a specced life magic skill or life major spell) it's nice to know that it's not impossible.

  • You should probably mention that archers have a benefit in that lower accuracy, unlike power, does not detract from damage dealt. Also, archers can machine gun certain bosses (without even draining them completely of stamina) and inanimate objects (doors/gates/pedestals/etc).
