@Gracieglimmerr I do!! it actually stands for who designed it, the guys name was Eric something so the E is for his name and the 12 is cause it was his 12th roller coaster :-) I used to work this ride
@CAZZERNERY This ride is a mild bobsled ride meaning no track. It opened in 1985 as Avalanche Run, but do to sand blowing on the chutes Cedar Point enclosed the ride and themed it as a space adventure ride. Most of the ride is in the dark and I beleive the top speed is 30-40 mph. Very similar to Disney's Space Mountain with no track.
@mikehen1976 40 is exactly how fast it goes when its at its fastest, I love when the track is alittle wet (yes it does when it rains sometimes) cause then u fish tail and the ride is even funner, too bad the close it when it rains tho, (only employees can test ride to see if its dry enuff)
@CAZZERNERY My dad knew I was afraid of coasters when I was little so he told me there was this real slow one for me to ride. And since it was all inside by then all you saw was a big building, so I didn't know what to think. Then the whole line in there are displays to make it feel like a transportation station in the future, with belts carrying stuff around above people and everything. Needless to say it was an unexpected rush as the car slides around on no track!
I also remember one time it being redone to show off dinosaurs and stuff. It was all lit up inside and there were dinosaur statues and models in between the tracks. Not sure what it was about as it's since been changed back every time I go.
alright so DT's 2009 ridership numbers are amazing. We are hustling for real.
As for being torn down, CP needs the building plus DT is the only bobsled coaster in the Northern Hemisphere and is the only one indoors and one out of 3 in existence.
I tried to go on it last summer, me and my friends waited an hour, and right when we got to the ride, it shut down because of hte rain. Plus we wasted a buck on the glasses, which the lady touch with her hands so it didnt work... :\
I remember when it first opened with all the queue effects. The first large room had multiple animatronics and a large video screen giving you info on the story. The company Dispatch Master Transport is a poorly run hold everything together with duct tape and a prayer operation. The dispatch robot's warranty has just expired and it begins to malfunction. Then in the next room the robots lose your luggage. And on the ride, right before you go up the lift hill, your onboard computer overheats.
yeah but is said that before the ridership numbers had been released. i was saying that on the fact that DT's ridershpi has been dropping over the years (and somewhere else i said i was really interested in the ridership figures for 2008) yeah i know they increased about 100,000 which is really good, but im still pretty sure that they were getting rid of it. maybe just a rumor?
ha. me and my friends went on it and got stuck at the top because my friend had a cell phone out. The ride sucks though, its slow. The only cool thing is the darkness.
That Avalanche run ride was the worst thing Cedar Point ever came up with. I rode it the first year it opened and it was as it is today, slow and short. Someone should have lost a job over that. I know they dumped some $ while putting some lip stick on a pig, but it worked out ok. Making it inside with a decent theme and having it in mostly darkness makes it fun for those that want something more tame like kids. They have let it run down a bit in recent years though. I still like it.
Cedar Point spent millions for the remodel. I remember when it opened in 1990. The special effects, lighting, and sounds when waiting in line were really neat for the time. Not quite sure why they got rid of all that. Maybe it was costing too much to maintain. Looking back, in my opinion they should have just left it as the Avalanche Run. I think they ended up losing some money on this ride. Might be one of the reasons the admission price kept jumping up in the 90's.
you now whats funny, the blue streak gets more guest then this ride.... when ever i get line for this ride just to kill time.. it's always a walk up while the blue streak has a wait..
How could Disaster Transport be new? It used to be Avalanche Run. All they did was put it indoors and theme it. It's not new. Funny commercial though (only because it sucked)
It's a marketing gimmick... Marriott's Great America pulled a similar stunt when they converted Turn of the Century to the Demon. They could advertise it as a new ride without having to buy an entirely new ride.
that ride was pretty much nothing lol
