I am reading the savage detectives in Spanish and I feel like I am actually living in Mexico in the 1970's. When I paint, I think of his talents, novels and what could have been of his work had been still alive. Que lastima que se haya perdido a un gran escritor.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe there are youtube clips of the great Roberto Bolaño. I gotta learn Spanish. But just seeing him... what a gift. Cesar Aira is great too.
Actually, he`s speaking about the english language, differences between english and spanish, Borges Favorite english writers. ;-) Then he criticizes "inferior" "easy" literature, cautions future writers not to repeat the "Boom" authors. He claims that Juan Villoro, Rodrigo Rey Rosa, César Aira, Javier Marias, and Enrique Vila Matas are the way of the future in Latin American Lit. He urges people to check them out.
He also recommends Georges Peret, and Antonio Di Benedetto, which he claims is one of the greatest LatAm authors, who wrote to win prizes and survive, `cause he didn´t have any money.
