picked this game up 10 years since i last played it. even with an xbox controller it only takes about 10 minutes to get used to the controls. (its very sensitive! use that to your advantage)
I'm actually surprised to hear anyone say that the controls in this game were bad. I played this game many years ago and thought that the controls were actually some of the best I'd seen in the boat racing genre. I played this game right around the same time that I played VR Sports Powerboat Racing and thought that Turboprop Racing was by far the better title. Incidentally, I feel that the best way to play this game was with a steering wheel, in the on-boat view. Controlled like a dream.

Hey, I has this but it was called Rapid racer and it was actually quite good. The graphics were cutting edge for the PS1 and ran at 60fps in hi res mode. You need to switch to the cockpit view to get better control. I would give it a 8.5. Fast smooth, great music & one of the 1st games to use the new analog control. Give it a try.
This was my very first videogame back in 1997, when it game out and I got my PS1. you don't need to turn with the directional butons, press R1 to turn left with stability and L1 to the right. you will avoid walls and drive much better

This game used the side buttons on the PSX pad so the controls had a lot of depth and were rewarding, just like WipeOut 2 and 3.
Good God...this review is just pathetic. You can`t be serious. When the game came out it took me less than a hour to master the controls. But it seems like you didn`t even try...

Im sure he wouldnt critisize super mario, he played that and said it was the best game in the classic platformer genre. there are critics with some tastes, whether it comes to looking for good and responsive controls, looking for great sfx and music, and even ones that are seeing if the content alone is an improvement or not, so those are the examples. so thats it.

turbo prop? It's called Rapid Racer and how the hell can you find the controls difficult? I was playing when i was young and found it very easy. You must be a complete retard if you can't play this. The game has an amazing theme tune btw
first of all, even i could beat the first beach track back in the day when i was about 8, u r fucking retards at controlling the boat, its obvious that all you are doing is jaming the control hard to the left and then the right, SECONDLY there are 6 DAY versions of the tracks, 6 NIGHT versions, 6MIRROR versions and each set increased in difficulty and then you have the fractal track generator, u r just pathetic
