nice vid jake. my mom scored an old Asus Eee PC 4G (one of the first models of netbooks i think) the other day and asked me to get it usable for my niece. 4 gig ssd, 512 ram, etc. so i tried a few distros and settled on Lubuntu. TinyCore would have been nicer on it, if it wasn't for how choppy flash (youtube) was on it. i am in the process of stripping it of all unnecessary packages like XFBurn (no burner so no need) and other things she won't use, and putting on Skype. i may do a vid later!
@SEwalkman752 Depends what you want to do. XP is fine really. But if you wanna try Ubuntu just dual boot it makes it easy if you install Ubuntu after Windows.
i put ubuntu 9.1 on a toshiba satellite laptop i had laying around and it ran terribly. Couldnt handle most flash video, or even really really basic flash games
I just installed this ubuntu on my netbook and so far it seems to run faster then Vista which is what came on my netbook. and yah it worked righ up front I did not have to hunt down drivers either.
When I tried to view a you tube video it said in the top of the page I needed the flash player and to click here to get it. I just followed that link. Yeah it would be much faster than Vista I would imagine.
I recently picked up an old Dell Latitude C810 and I am interested in installing a Linux Operating system on it. What would be the most ideal Linux OS? Any advice I would appreciate.
Didn't you say in the last video this computer belonged to a customer? I take it you told them you would install Ubuntu on the machine for them instead of Windows, right?
Very nice. I love Ubuntu, I have it on an older Athlon 64 system. I'll have to get this newer version. Great video MN12, I've been debating on getting one of these netbooks.
Do you happen to know if these things will play older PC games like Worms Mayhem (came out in 2005)
If I was to download a 700 MB file with my internet connection here in Australia, the file will take hours to download, so when I got my Ubuntu CD last year I ordered an actual CD and they posted it to me for free.
yah and it looks like it just works right from the start no drivers to hunt down. MN12bird shows that the wirless work, that is not the case with other versions of ubuntu. I may try this.
I have a question, I have a Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop 500GB HDD and I have a heightened interest in the Linux operating system, I currently have win vista(64-bit) which makes my computer crash all the time, I am getting a free upgrade to win 7(64-bit) in the mail sometime soon and I wanted to ask you, If I should run only win 7 or if I should run only Linux, or if I should partition my HDD and run both, I have heard excellent reviews on both OS's and wanted to have your trusted opinion.
Tough questing. I run only Windows 7 on my main PC and I won't lie to you... I love it! But Ubuntu is awesome too. I personally would like to have both again eventually. I used to run XP and Ubuntu dual boot.
do they make this for use on a desktop systems ? and if they do how does it compare to xp ? thanks in advance cool video 5 stars for you hope to hear from you soon !!!!!
Oh of course and I've shown Ubuntu a few times on here running on my PC. It's hard to compare to Windows XP. It's much better in some ways but many would argue you need Windows and it's easy to run Windows programs and games in Windows as they are meant. Check my older videos search for Ubuntu and you'll see.
@epinky2295 not all linux is free. theres a lot of commercial linux distros, many of which are aimed at business. redhat is probably the most famous commercial distro
That looks pretty cool! Might have to give it a test drive on an old desktop and see how it runs. Had I not put Windows 7 on my netbook already, I might have gone with this.

I gave this a test drive tonight, and it's great aside from not being able to play my iTunes library... Do you know of a way around it?
It seems to run good even from the USB stick. If I can get my music working, it would probably be worth installing.

What is the main difference from the normal Ubuntu 9.10 to the Netbook remix, besides the UI change?
Also, did it enable video aceleration on that Acer out of the box, r did you need to get the VGA drivers?

All the drivers where there so nope I didn't have to install video drivers. Not sure what other changes there are. Mainly UI stuff I'm guessing.

But I don't really know too much about it.
As far as gaming support goes, software, etc.
Also, I've heard of a ton of different types, so that's pretty confusing too.
Anyways, good video.
