  • so right when he lets someone else play...it ends...lovely

  • wow

  • hes just too damn good ,it penetrates straight to the soul.

  • Nice.

  • man, i value derek under only one, but theres somethin missin, can't pin it.

  • @Talesofspace8 a black dude with a saxophone?

  • I think his Guitar climaxed like a woman at 0:53

  • Derek Trucks!, yes he does!

  • Derek Definetly plays in Open E. Just watch an interview or a lesson.

  • He is a beast.

  • Ahhh, what a boss. Derek Trucks is the only guitarist alive who can go buck wild with the slide and still sound awesome.

  • everytime I hear Derek I feel like I just went to church

  • I agree Phaedra... a spiritual experience for sure!

  • i love what they do with this song.... kudos to king curtis

  • I'm quite sure Duane Allman and King Curtis would kick your ass if they were still here

    Derek is absolutely awesome

I think he is Duane Allman reincarnated

    just amazing

  • nah, Duane and Derek have very different approaches. Tone is very different, phasing is different, and im pretty sure Derek plays in standard tuning. Plus Duane was more of a purist blues musician where as Derek in more a jazz musician. Sure Derek bases a lot of playing off of Duane, but he has more of his own individual style that makes him good.

    RIP Duane

  • Nah, Derek Plays in Open E tuning most of the time, as did Duane. But they definitely do have different approaches. They are two of the best slide guitarists to ever exist, in my opinion.

  • i couldnt agree more u kno ur stuff, but im pretty sure derek uses standard and open tunings.

  • i've never seen him play standard ever, mostly open e and sometimes open g i think

  • Hes in open E 99% of the time, every time.

  • i think he is duane x10!!!

  • I agree to an extent

Duane only started playing slide in late 1968 or 1969 and has a very disticntly melodic way of phrasing

Derek on the other hand has been playing slide since he was a kid

as hunter19tennclem stated Duane usually tuned to a open E or open D tuning . So Derek phrases a little differently than Duane, but his approach to playing slide is the closest to Duane I've ever heard, he doesn't sound like he's copying Duane, he sounds like an extension of Duane's style

    remember Duane

  • way to go ! wow !!! :-)

  • *****

  • speechless
