I saw the Tops at Sheffield(twice in 1 month! at The Fiesta and Sheffield City Hall and Batley Variety Club as an early convert to Motown- 'the Sound of Young America'! We Brits made Motown and maintained it! Great band often covered never equalled never will be!
IF ONLY black/all kinds of music had this magic today...oh those times. from "platinum" to just garbage. about the four tops? simply the best act ever...
Not everywhere. It has always gotten loads of airplay in dance-crazy Philadelphia, PA from the outset, and went on to become a major oldie, part of the soundtrack of living here. It was apparently Rick Sklar'd in New York, though ("I'm Rick Sklar, and you're not!")
Rick Sklar was the Great Brain in NY, who brought in Dan Ingram, Ron Lundy, Chuck Leanard, Bruce Marrow, Harry Harrison, and brought Goerge Michael to NY from Philly...not bad, the best music line up on Radio

The magnificent Levi Stubbs. A voice like no other. I hear this music and want to cry at the emotion it evokes.

there was nothing better than buying a two-sided HIT 45 in the 60's. Flip this over and you have Bernadette both of which hit #1 on WIBG in 1967

This is an all time sleeper. Thanks to Lee Kelly for introducing this to the DC night clubs in the 70's
