Actually, they did make a song about what they are, in one of the earliest episodes aired (you can watch it on the Volume 1 DVD set). They concluded it by saying they're just "cute". The Warners aren't meant to be modeled after any specific animal. And the series lasted 99 episodes and had a movie, that's enough.

@lilliecow Amen to that! The good news is, some of the writers were voice actors for the show, and vice versa. If SOME of the writers won't come back, the double and triple-talents will! Or very devoted fans who understand the Warners' particular brand of smart hilarity! The REAL issue is finding the voice actors who haven't been on the air in a while (the voice of Wakko, the voice of Slappy Squirrel) and replacing voices who got too old (Skippy and Mindy).

The only reason I'm against it is because modern television censors would rip them apart. Case in point the studio interview in which Wakko's voice had been told to change it up constantly because they had wanted a more "smaller" voice in the beginning
