  • The Elizabeth Bennet skiss is beautiful!

  • What you didn't do that you might consider is darting the front in the bust so that you get it fitted properly. I've made over a dozen Regency gowns and darting is always needed!

  • @PinkWeeds 'Darting' meaning what precisely? Sorry but the dictionary doesn't give me a very precise picture of what you might mean... would you mind explaining?

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Darting is how you get fabric to mold closer to your body. In the case of Regency Dresses you want the fabric to mold around your breasts and so darts on the bottom of your bodice to your areola will provide a better fitting garment. There are several how-to videos on youtube on how to sew a dart and it is fairly easy- the only difficult part is making sure that they are even.

  • @PinkWeeds Well actually I made a couple of folds on the lower part of the bodice before sewing it to the skirt for that effect, I wouldn't think it need to be darts specifically.

  • Hey there, I personally LOVE to hear about all the different fabrics and all the little details you share thank you so much for all that you do.

  • Wow, your drawing is absolutely beautiful.

  • Your beautiful.

  • I am stunned by the picture in the book of the regency undergarments - a piece of wood in the front of the corset?! One certainly would stand and sit straight with that thing on! I usually pin and just cut around patterns these days, having ruined a delicate fabric (an unusually pale mint green sari silk) with tailors chalk, thinking it would come out quite easily - it didn't for ages, it was a real mess. Can't wait until the next "instalment" to see how this dress progress.

  • Maybe you can save the fabric mock for a open robe or a drop-bib dress since the bodice is low.

  • I really liked that gown myself. Lizzy's dresses were very fitting to her character, simple with emphasis on ruching in small areas. Simple yet sophisticated. Also I liked the dresses Mary were wearing, I thought she looked prettier at home than at the ball. She had such pretty chemisettes too.

  • YAY!!!! first to comment!! :P

LOVE THE IDEA!!!!!! and i watched all of the jane austin adapted movies

if you've seen pride and prejudice (the 2005 adaptation) they have a lot of variations on the top part of the dress, like some are gathered and others draped, some have appleque's so there are alot of variations, i suggest you watch it and see the different variations, that way you can create your own extravagant yet still conservative piece from the regency era! :)

  • @masquerade8892 Yea I watched the 2005-version, but I decided on a very classical and clear line on purpose^^

They didn't do that well of a job on Keiras costumes in my opinion... way better than in 'becoming Jane' but still...

The plan for my dress was that when I make it as simple as possible I can vary ribbons and accesoires to get a different look each time without too much effort.

  • @Goldkehlchen20

OH i didnt think about it that way

    thats a much BETTER IDEA!!!!!!

different ribons and accesories really do change the dress!!!!

    KUDOS TO YOU!!!!!! ^^
