Its a pleasure to listen Ripper in every band he sings. Congrats man! You are on my singers top list and ure higher than Halford. Its just my opinion. Hail metal heads!
Ripper isnt consistent, but he is a great singer. I dont care who you are, a voice like that is hard to come by. Either way he wasn't going to beat Halford! Everyone who was anyone knew that from day one of him being in the band. By the way, does anyone else think that the band, instrumentally, sounds weird on this? I dont know if they're playing it differently or what, but it sounds odd, and it isnt the tuning.
Judas Priest led by Axl Rose would be interesting. Yea I know that'd be impossible but just think about it;). GNR ended touring in '93 he could fill for Rob with no problems. Heard how he sings ACDC covers so Priest wouldn't be any problem to him. I mean of course that young Axl from the 90's now Rose's voice is dead comparing to his days...
@kranen1 Now Ripper is better technically than Axl but Axl is a better frontman anyway he has more personality. Axl is a crazy motherfucker beside all the great music he made. I don't know how good Axl would sing Priest songs. If he could pull off Painkiller, Heading Out To The Highway, Tyrant and Desert Plains (those songs have a lot difficult notes to sing) he would sing all Priest songs with no problem. On the other hand Axl would be way too much an egocentric to feat with Priest.
Judas Priest beside Ripper Owens considered as possible singers Sebastian Bach from Skid Row and Ralf Scheepers ex Gamma Ray vocalist (now he has a band Primal Fear that plays music sounding a lot like Priest). But just imagine Axl with Priest. It would add so much controversy etc. It would be a great band!!! If not Axl a great front man for Priest in those days would be Whitesnake's David Coverdale. Coverdale had pipes to sing Priest songs.
If this guy had been the original singer, and Halford filled in for a few years, you idiot purists would be screaming..omg this Rob guy sucks..wheres Owens..the guy did an awesome job while filling in,and a million times better than any of you coulda accomplished..I am a Halford fan, nobody can replace him,but give the guy his due..he kept Priest right there where they should be..TOURING AND KICKIN ASS !!!!
@hockeytim64 It's not the same. Black Sabbath with Dio wasn't Black Sabbath. Judas Priest without Halford wasn't Judas Priest. This video is unwatchable. It's like watching American Idol. This is crap.
@IP0Monsturd the difference is that sabbath with Dio wrote some good stuff for some people even better than OZzy. While Priest with Tim wrote shit albums.
@hockeytim64 Well yes and no. People saying shit like ripper just can't hold is own are retards that are just butt hurt over halford not being there. But just as in the case of Dickenson being maidens second singer had Halford been the replacement I'd still say he was far better. His voice is stronger, it's more unique sounding and his range is far wider. That doesn't mean ripper isn't a fucking phenomenal vocalist though.
@nucleardude11 Moron! Where have you been the last 6 or 7 years? Redneck County, USA? Halford returned to the Priest years ago. This is from 2001. I'd like to see you redneck-boy do a better job than Ripper Owens here. He was the right man for Priest when Halford was doing Fight, Halford and various other projects. Ripper is a loyal Priest-fan as well. He was happy and gladly quit the band when he heard Halford was returning to the fold.
@SilverTounge85 first of all i'm from frankfurt germany and i live in london, second of all, his voice completely contradicts the judas priest sound, would you take roger waters and replace him with mick jagger!!!
@nucleardude11 this is ridiculous saying that as awesome singer as Ripper sucks. I can say that all conservative fans of Priest sucks and can't appreciate even as great album as Nostradamus or Jugulator. That sucks...
@NICKNVK1991 Yea, even now since Rob's back their sound is a bit downtuned comparing to their sound from Painkiller tour. Rob's voice got a bit lower after he turner 50 so they had to tune down.
What? Why the hell would you want a second rate cover band singer back in a legendary band that already has the singer its known for? A singer that destroys Ripper in every way possible.
Once you learn some actual things about vocal techniques and how the pros do it, you'll realise that Owens is a cover band singer that is extremely robotic, fact. :D
Which is exactly why you think Ripper is such a good singer. You've never taken the time and by the sounds of it, never will learn what TRUE vocal technique and ability is.
Once you do, you'll understand what I've been saying. ;)
@JoeRoberts666 SHHH, don't get angry. Besides we like the same music just because you believe different than me. What do you do for a living anyway? seriously tell me.
@JoeRoberts666 Well right now I'm helping my dad to overlook his fieldworkers but I'm going to the police academy next year, not a big thing but atleast I'll be able to live by myself playing God of war all day long. How about that does it sound cool?
@JoeRoberts666 You clearly never heard any of Owens' work. He can hit the high notes just like Rob and still sound awesome singing normally. His work on Jugulator is good at proving that. His Winter's Bane and Iced Earth stuff proves that too.
Glenn Tipton and KK Downing chose him to sing for Judas Priest...They wouldn't of chose him if he wasn't good...I mean, how many people on this Earth can fill Rob's place? They made a good call I believe!
@scret9 Well I'm not denying that he can hit high notes. I'm just saying he has no soul in his performances, he sounds like a robot and never really does anything different.
In my opinion Ralf from Primal Fear would have been a far better choice than Ripper was. Glenn chose Ripper because he sings more brutally. Music was getting more brutal and Priest needed to fit in. That also explains why all Priest music was DOWNTUNED with Ripper singing.
@JoeRoberts666 You got a point. They probably didn't choose Ralf since Tim was a nobody and was easily controllable while Ralf was more well known in the metal community. But yeah, I agree that Tim is a little dull when performing live but he's not bad on the cd's, that's what I'm trying to say. I also agree that Ralf would've been better for the Judas Priest style, but I guess Glenn and KK were desperate for fitting in with the changing music and didn't want the band being second checked.
Ripper has a kick ass voice, and it sounds fucken amazing on the demolition album, and he did good on the other priest songs, but it doesnt sound right unless Halford is there
I think Ripper has an incredible voice! He did an incredible job in Priest! If anyone should replace Rob I would vote for Ripper, no question about that!! After hearing Ripper sing Priest songs I'm having a hard time understanding all the critizism against him. For example: The song Burn In Hell, is there any other Priest song that heavy (except for maybe Judas Rising, Hellrider, The Sentinel) ?
Ripper is a very good singer! He really nailed the songs when he was in Priest, in fact he did some songs better than Halford live, like Painkiller and Diamonds & Rust. But still there´s only one metal god and Halford is the greatest singer ever....
Yes i agree, he was not Halford, but he had his own style and it worked great with the band. Demolition was a great album. I prefer the songs written for Ripper, i think they came out better than the ones he sang that were written for Halford
@snakekramer Listen to any of the Primal Fear albums, their like Painkiller part II - VI. There was also a rumor that M. Kieske of Helloween was gonna take Bruce's places in Maiden. You woulda had two Germans fronting the two most consumate British HM bandz. Sir Winston Churchill would roll in his grave.
@WingDiamond Isn't that what everyone wanted, hell I'd take any of those Primal Fear albums over what they did with the Ripper anyday. As for the Kiske thing I never knew about that, probably would've been sweet. Churchill can roll all the way to hell for all I care he was a womanizing drunk lol j/k
he does not suck balls, ripper owens is amazing, yes halford is the singer for priest for sure, but tim is still a spectacular singer with tons of talent and you should respect that
Man Ian Hill is always like F**k off I dont wanna be here. he always looks pissed at something I just saw them live in San Antonio last week he is always in the back barely moving and got the "don't F**ck with me" look...
Great band... Ripper is really good and talented singer and I like some of his work with Iced Earth, but never like him in Priest, thats just my taste..
if he was like halford you would say:oh what a loser...what a fake?what a failure copy?now that he is more brutal and more different you say:oh he is heavy and they need to tune down...you do not have an idea about music...each human can sing in different ways and if in one way he can sing better he will do that...
Zodiac: Yes you are right about the downtuning, though Ripper said that it is prefered tuning, it was Glenn who decided to tune down to D and not Ripper. Ripper can sing in E too, no doubt about it. If he says he can, he can.
Tim Ripper has an excellent voice, and can actually take those screams that Halford just doesn't manage anymore. Let's just face it, as it is today Tim Ripper is a better singer.
HOWEVER, not one single person can even be considered to be compared to Halford when he was at his best. He truly was and is a Metal God and a great icon of metal.
I saw British Steel (aka Winter's Bane - Ripper's tribute band that landed him the JP gig) in a small club in PA and he sounded more like Halford than Halford did at the time. At the time, Priest wasn't playing and they filled a huge void...the crowds were standing room only. Me and my brother hung out with the band after the show at the bar...Ripper was truly a great guy and a gentleman.
One of Judas Priest hardest songs to sing, Ripper is not a bad singer but no one can sing like Rob Halford period, even at age 60 he is way better than this.
Even though I prefer Rob, Ripper was accepted by the BAND and was the best replacement. He has his own style and it satisfied the era in which Priest and Rob had their little tiff. I also loved Jugulator (not typical Priest, but neither was Point of Entry and Turbo) which I put right up there with Stained Class, Defenders and Painkiller! Looking forward to "Sheff" in 2009 where I first saw them back in 1975..never dissapointed me since!
ripper isn't the problem, the problems are glen and k.k. it seems as if they can't play that stuff any more, just listen to glens passage after the intro or to the solos...the version of the '86 tubo tour is much better
Dude, Glenn just gets better by the years. The reason why it sounds odd/different here is the guitars are D-tuned, it's slowed down and waay more distortion than the 86 version.
Good try, but this guy's got some big shoes to fill, and he doesn't fill them. Like others have said, this is HALFORD'S song. Fucking NOBODY can sing it and pull it off the right way.
In my opinion Ripper is better than Halford. I think Halford is a great singer, but I'm not too crazy about his tone. Ripper on the otherhand is how every metal singer should sound. He gives you that raw edge.
whenever he tries to sing like rob, he sounds like a complete moron. you cant be rob halford without being rob halford. im glad hes gone. stay at iced earth.
Gotta love how none of the Ripper critics can't spell:-P I like him in Iced Earth, I'm too narrow minded to accept a replacement singer in Priest. Rob is just one of a kind, it's not Priest without him.
I am sure Ripper has been the best replacement they could ever found around, if not Rob.

I think Rob and Ripper are both great singer. I prefer Rob because he is the only Priest voice.

i prefer rob
but the ripper did a good job

this is still incredible amazing and fucking great

Even though I prefer Rob, Ripper was accepted by the BAND and was the best replacement. He has his own style and it satisfied the era in which Priest and Rob had their little tiff. I also loved Jugulator (not typical Priest, but neither was Point of Entry and Turbo) which I put right up there with Stained Class, Defenders and Painkiller! Looking forward to "Sheff" in 2009 where I first saw them back in 1975..never dissapointed me since!

Yeah, he doing a good job singing.

ripper isn't the problem, the problems are glen and k.k. it seems as if they can't play that stuff any more, just listen to glens passage after the intro or to the solos...the version of the '86 tubo tour is much better
maneater21 3 years ago
Dude, Glenn just gets better by the years. The reason why it sounds odd/different here is the guitars are D-tuned, it's slowed down and waay more distortion than the 86 version.

Ripper is one of the best singer in Heavy Metal. Rob is unique, and the best for Priest, but Ripper did a very good job

Halford still sounds better and he's close to 60, compared to this shit at 30 something.

Good try, but this guy's got some big shoes to fill, and he doesn't fill them. Like others have said, this is HALFORD'S song. Fucking NOBODY can sing it and pull it off the right way.

got mad respect for ripper but rob is the shit and will always be
matt1980 3 years ago 2
personally i think this is a great version of the song, ripper is a good singer
carnforth76 3 years ago 2
Respect to Ripper for attempting this song, it's not an easy one to sing.
only Rob Halford can sing it the way it was meant to be sung.
Therefore everyone should leave it to him.

In my opinion Ripper is better than Halford. I think Halford is a great singer, but I'm not too crazy about his tone. Ripper on the otherhand is how every metal singer should sound. He gives you that raw edge.
dawidvanstraaten 3 years ago
yeah this guy is way too death metal Halford is the only one true priest inger. No one is better than Halford. Thank God Halford is back.
hotguitarist87 3 years ago 2

randomhero1994 4 years ago 2
He's gone from Iced Earth now too lol.
It just seemed like there was so much more energy with Rob you know?
Metalthrasher442 4 years ago 2
he sings well i think

Ripper needs to stick to death metal. He sucks at singing priest songs.

they're playing in D?? :S

Ripper? Who's Ripper?!?!?!
fordsierra12 4 years ago
Gotta love how none of the Ripper critics can't spell:-P I like him in Iced Earth, I'm too narrow minded to accept a replacement singer in Priest. Rob is just one of a kind, it's not Priest without him.
Baldmelon 4 years ago
This singer friggon blows! Very bad.
