  • This UI, although looks, sometime lags. Apple does it best.

  • @saliuok1

Its not a finished OS yet, this is a pre-build

  • dont tell me we are going to use windows 8 with tablets! i want a pc os not a tablet os!!!!!!!!!

  • What win 8 should be ...

    windows8sugs.blogspot.in

  • Windows is now longer windows now thanks to windows 8 as the classic "windows" start menu has disapeared and its now made for best looks not best productivity and windows experianced has been masked by the glory of good looks

  • @JamieForsyth Agree and I think this moves away from productivity toward spoon feeding "content" to the user. It would be frustrating to try and Google say "hermenutics," "hermetics" or "hueristics" if you were trying to learn, say, philosophic terms. But you could pull up some pictures of lolcats really fast.

  • Excellent video! Thanks :)

  • I would rather have a laptop with a detachable screen than this shit.. can't be carrying all them bits around!!

  • I wonder what the learning curve is for people who haven't even switched from Vista yet :P

  • I hate to burst your bubble Slash Gear but you cant say windows 8 boots in 10 or less because its dependent on the pc.

My pc boots in about 15sec and my laptop in about 6 seconds on win 7.

Thats purly based on the post that is required causing delays. and god forbid you have multiple OSs installed with a boot menu then your screwed. so id not thumb down any facts.

  • what if u get a blue screen of death on this, where is ctrl alt del ?

  • I was going to buy a ps vita but I think I gonna save my money and get a windows 8 tab (whichever that might be)

  • @chrisgangsta It will be awesome... Check out this video: Building "Windows 8" - Video #1

  • @chrisgangsta yes it is going to come out on laptops, desktops and tablets. You will be able to use it without touch as well... but my opinion is that the best experience will be to have a tablet that allows you to use it on the go as well as getting home and place it in a hub, transforming it into a kind of desktop...

  • I ran a hand movement analysis on this video for when you're entering your password, and I was able to figure out your password. Your password is: hellokittyboy69.

  • im lost, so windows 8 is not coming out for laptops?

  • @chrisgangsta It is but it wont exactly work as above, unless your laptop has a touch screen - that would be weird though.

  • Samsung makes everything.

  • @KitFai91 samsung is totally the shit.

  • @willistennis55 why do you say so?

  • @KitFai91 because they make awesome phones, awesome tvs, awesome laptops, what else do they make? it always turns out good haha

  • @willistennis55 gotta agree, i hope samsung will make a good w8 tablet, need one.

  • lol 2:47

  • I have used IPAD and android tablets, but always wondered how it will be like having my hands on windows tablet. From the look of It, I am going to like windows tablet compared to android and ipad. There is one job (in my line of duty) which best windows does perfectly well.

  • @umobutu have you ever tried using a windows phone?

  • @SangtotheDy

I have tried an old windows phone v.6.50 and I don't like it. That was three years ago. Not sure how it's like using WP7. Actually I need a phone with full desktop functionality. Fujitsu has a WINDOWS 7 but it's only for Japan market. There is a Taiwan company ITG XP PHONE 2 having a full windows 7 OS and I hope they produce the set for international market. I think this phone will be good.

  • @umobutu windows mobile is totally different from windows phone. :P (i really wish they named it something else...) go to a store and try one. :D

  • I wonder how this will affect the iPad. One thing's for certain: Android is dead on tablets.

  • how to get apps in windows 8

  • how to unbriked my windows 8

  • I like it, a lot actually.

With the previous Windows UI I always felt trapped in the Windows. Whatever program I was using, Windows interface was everywhere demanding my attention. Too many ways and locations to go to same programs as well. You had the explorer, desktop, start-menu, search, quicklist and then Windows 7 made the taskbar an app-launcher as well.

Windows 8 looks clean but functional. Maybe a little but simple and unattactive at first but definatly something I could get used to.

  • hey man i rly liked windows 8 too tho theres 1 think that rly anoyed me, theres acually no way Close pages/game/apps nd such. the only way to get em closed is thru the task manager, u will need to close programs else it will start eatin ur CPU its rly anoying.

  • i dont understand why do they dont want us to see the password, its not phone number or something just a password and u can change it when ever u want.. or if u really like the password use a fake one for review, to me this covering the password thing is always looks so silly..

  • HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYEEEAAA!!!!

  • why can't we see ur password :P

  • Funny, it seems like he has problems with the pinch and expanding your fingers to make screen bigger or smaller...which by the way he avoids by skipping to something else quickly.

  • @tboybmx It's a beta, you can't expect everything to work.

  • It'll be really interesting to see how well this OS does when it comes out. It might just be me, but I just can't get excited about Windows 8. The Apple and Android UI's are so much more appealing and useful. I concede that Windows 8 is still a ways off from release; we'll see what changes between now and then.

  • Awesome video. Best video I could find of Windows 8 on a Tablet.

  • most latest pc boots up fast...it all depends on what and how much software and apps you install, so the 9 second boot is irrelevent, but good for an unused new tablet

  • i just watched it slow down and crash and he says "everything just runs so smooth" ?!? lol

  • @SuperReivan it is developer preview .. not even beta

  • @erfanullahjan I know, just pointing out the bias.

  • Im Guessing Steve Jobs Didn't Get A Chance To Make Something Better Than Windows 8 xD

  • @TRDOA22 Steve Jobs doesn't make anything, he just picks and chooses designs and ideas made from the people working for him. I don't mean to discredit him for anything, but he even said Microsoft had "no taste". That's what Steve Jobs was there for, "Apple's taste". He probably would have no idea how to put together a barebones PC in the firsts place.

  • What model of tablet is that ?

  • @davidgoodhall I think it's an HP Tablet. It will be released next year.

  • go to the app store !!!...

  • so you can actually order a tablet with the Windows 8 DP?

or is it the official samsung release?

  • your voice like Evil

  • Win 8 is buggy OS rit now...

  • Чушь какаято этот виндоус

  • windows xp(GOOD) windows vista (BAD) windows 7 (awesome) windows 8(...)

  • If you 'experts' have nothing useful to say, then don't say anything

  • grow up children.

  • @shebotnov lol you retarded? This owns both iOS and especially android.

  • retarded win phone 8 UI -> same with win 8. FAIL

  • @shebotnov exactly

  • 10 missispi: your Dead FuckFace

By the way this is the keyboard: No Its your fucking dead cat in the middle of an orgy

  • 10 missispi: your Dead FuckFace

  • omg too much talking talking talking!!!

  • omg this guy should not be demoing ANY software, geez this is embarassing.

  • Wow if i were microsoft I wouldn't send any more demo devices to slashgear, this guy looks like he doesn't know what he's doing. Speech therapy is also recommended.

  • i don't like windows 8

  • THIS GUY WAS DESPERATE TO USE FOR HIMSELF WINDOWS 8.

  • I would like to see more demension to the tiles, maybe some shadows or a little more lifelike animation with the feeds that update the tiles. Any news on when it will be on sale and how much it will be?

  • There's still a few bugs that needs to be worked out but once MS does I will be all over this, they got that deal with nokia for windows phone 7 and I'm sure nokia is already working on the tablet, we know samsung is cuz thats the one he is using in this video

  • For those who are wondering why I would sell my iPad 2, windows just works lol, there would be no compromise, flash, html5, sliver light it all just works, online games a free no downloading or paying it all just works,no wait months for simple video chat, it all works no compromise

  • This is a full pc with great touch UI, I been waiting for windows to really step it up but you know the main computer companies are going to sell this at high ass price, I hope windows has told their partners to try and sell the windows 8 tablet at a price that matches apple and android tablets better yet offer it at a lower price, I would sell my iPad 2 to get my hands on an 8 hour lasting windows 8 tablet

  • Ctrl+Alt+Delete

  • let me see ur passwerd lolz

  • Your 2 years of glory are over apple. Pcs back on top bitchez

  • @eggrollio51 One: PC stands for Personal Computer and Mac's are PC's as well. Apart from that being said... i'm currently on Windows 8 and the Metro UI isn't that Amazing and Overwhelming when I first heard about it... the Windows 8 has been built OVER Windows 7 so there still those fantastic features you see in WIndows 7 :)

  • @eggrollio51 Hi man! Did you heard about Apple's iPad2? Obviously not, for this comment would be inappropriate, yes?

  • Been*

  • Ive neen waiting for a full windows tablet for so long. Cant wait for this, selling my ipad 2 for it.

  • Sounds like a Filipino doin' this review..

  • I personally don't think it's a good idea to have ONE OS compatible for both tablets/mobile phones and classic computers.

  • to tell the truth, this thing looks pretty hard to use.

  • @merlyv that's what everyone says about new products.. but that mentality will change after a few days using it guaranteed ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Running this on a barely capable cr48 and it's amazingly fast.

  • Zoom FAIL count : 5

  • lol he probably uses the same password for everything :P including his youtube acount aha :P.. srry for spelling errors

  • Hey, got a question.

Is this a normal, PC machine with all that touch stuff?

I mean - can I install all my normal windows programs, that I use on my Win7?

Can I plug in a normal USB pendrive (without any additional cables), mouse and keyboard?

Is this a normal touch sensitive PC that actually works?

  • epic good work microsoft

  • I really like how Microsoft is bringing the functionality and easiness of tablets to each and every computer. At first I wasn't sure about the UI but all windows functionality is still there. The desktop and star menu are outdated concepts considering we just want to get to our app(lications). Im behind a W7 PC right now and its like everything is on the screen twice or even three times. I just want to get to the apps, 70% of what I'm seeing is useless for my needs. So Im interested in this.

  • Windows 8 has IE so does that mean Silverlight Netflix streaming through the browser as usual and can I also install normal Windows programs?

  • @strobe9 You can use your computer normally and u will be able to install all windows 7 applications/programs on windows 8. There is no different. There will be a windows apps market for windows upp accessing it easily from your pc/slate.

    Regards

  • Favorite thing is the snap feature so you can look at two apps!

  • Doesn't seem that smooth. But it is in beta so can't knock it just yet. Liking the metro UI.

  • So... Where's the desktop? I mean this is a PC right?

  • I'm liking what I see.

  • I'm impressed.

  • First off, it looks like this guy shaves his hands. SECOND there is a REASON why there is a difference between APPLE and WINDOWS people like difference. STOP making everything look the same way, we don't need a Ginormous iPhone !?!?!?!? I LIKE WINDOWS HOW IT IS !!!

  • Someone wasn't paying attention during the keynote i guess :D

  • very nice

  • what a stupid os lol

  • i Dont like it.

It seems like it will be complicated to develop on. :/

    im up for a challenge!

  • how many updates in the first week of release?? 130?!

  • The touch is still a crap , how come they cant do as Apple does ?

  • @oceanburank they made it in 21 weeks i bet you cant do that if you where a developer so dont critisise them

  • @TheKai12 so what ? who told them to make it in 21 weeks ? i think apple ppl work on the touch in 30 weeks that's why is the best ! all im saying the touch screen has to be Responsive to ur finger and apple dose it right , but MAC is super Sucks windows is the king , i only complain about Touch which is Very important on Tablets .

  • 14 apple fanboys are using a shitty ipad :)

  • i want it, i just want it

  • and i have counted 10,5 sec

  • @TheRaceManiac and my iOS powered stopwatch says 11s starting at the "Samsung" logo and 16s since the light on the dock fire up.

    So what are you saying?

My iPod 2g takes now 30s to cold boot-up, while this is a full fledged OS that fires up whatever the app in a blink of an eye.

  • So, Windows 8 starts in 8 seconds? Woow, that's why it's called Windows 8, right?

  • I'm watching this video on Windows 8 (great!)

  • @deurkl yo dwag, we put a windows 8 in your windows 8 so you can drool on your drool

  • CLASSIC WINDOWS 7

  • why does he hide while typing password??! what am I gonna do with it!!!?

  • Damn the Mac fanbois are pissed with this aren't they. Still bitter their tablet only does 40% of what a tablet is capable of.

Maybe Android should be worried after watching this demo. Time will tell.

BTW for fun when on the move tell your mates with ipads and iphones about a really great website and then laugh in their face when it has flash content they can't see. Their reaction when they realise they can't see it is priceless and it never gets boring.

  • Windows is for Computers, iOS is for toys....

  • nice, but I prefer for Windows 10.

  • what a piece of shit UI

they say its 1st time after win95 that OS got "revolutionary" change... well it sure did, it became bigger garbage than Vista

  • @snuhr Apple fanboy alert!

  • @cpetro45 coz you're idiot with no brain

I guess most people for you on this earth are then Apple fanboys

    fucking moron

  • daddy(apple) is for fun. mommy(Microsoft) means business. wheres the business?

  • What will be the price of one of these?

  • I've got a MacBook Pro right now like a school computer, and when we got our macs in school they told us how good it is and so on, well I can just say Apple is Shit! for 1100 EUR you could get an amaziing Windows computer and I don't really see why you should buy a macbook instead of a Windows Computer, According to me the best choise is always a windows computer, BTW the mac gets fuc*ing hot just when I watch Youtube and sounds like an airplane when it's getting hot.Windows for life!

  • faster then a notebook, more powerful than a tablet, with uor classic PC applications...just one word...amazing!

  • i am an Apple fanboy and think this windows 8 metro layer is stunning for a tablet. For a desktop with a mouse it doesnt have the same effect. I have a gaming PC and can see myself using the metro layer for game launching.

  • ..need 3 more buttons on the device, Ctrl+Alt+Del

  • I heared that Win8 for Desktop will have da same boottime (Y)

  • @maplemeadows well actually windows has been on tablets for over a decade. Apple has only been making tablets for less than 2 years. By your logic Apple copied Microsoft

  • @kahuna3901 Look at the device. It's very, very clearly influenced by Apple. It looks like an iPad, it works like an iPad (the swipe gestures and the pinching...), it's a desperate attempt to appeal to a market dominated by a competitor by making something almost identical at a cheaper price. It's not even very good as a device, not when you know how an iPad works.

This is typical Microsoft. Just like IE, why do they continue to keep riding a dead horse?

Stick to making gaming consoles, MS.

  • @SuperlativeSquared well the appearence of the device really has more to do with samsung rather than microsoft, if you had done your research then you would know this tablet costs over a £1000 pounds, so its not a cheaper soloution. this is pre beta software, you can't deduce how good a product is by pre-beta software, again if you did you research you would know this. last time i checked windows 7 was the fastest growing os of all time, stick to ipod apple.......

  • "I WANT TO BE AN IPAD" screamed the Samsung Windows device.

Honestly, what an utterly pointless creation. It's tragic that people are so anti-Apple that they'll celebrate a poorly knocked-off version of an iPad just because it comes without Apple branding.

  • Best unboxing ever.

  • I hope it won't be too hard to port to iPad since it's supposed to support ARM

  • Great tablet os, pointless for desktops/laptops imho :P

  • Is the reviewer CiscOreo, the one who makes Joker impressions?

  • Apple did it first.

  • @MapleMeadows Apple did what first? Make a tablet? No. Make a tablet OS first? No. Invent touch? No. Invent multitouch? No (but they like to think so!). Make a desktop OS that combines a mobile touch OS all into one? No. Apple are years behind compared to Win 8.

But when Apple do copy Microsoft with this idea, you can bet they pretend they did it first, and fanboys like you will believe them.

  • Your "IE10" seems to:

     * Load a page after two taps * Zooms in after two pinches * Zooms out after two pinches

Thats what you get for not using a mouse, double click still exists but say hello to double pinch xD watch at 6:24

  • Windows media center redux......I hate windows media center & I like my mouse.

  • Kinda COOOOL !! hahaha!

  • those are some LONG 10 seconds.

  • Maybe this is what it will take for Dell/HP/Asus/etc. to give high res. screens.

  • LOL - I can totally see the password you typed from where I stay :) Also, we'll see if Apple tries to file yet another patent lawsuit against Microsoft.

  • @etraderx11 why would apple sue microsoft.....this is completely different from anything apple has introduced and google should sue apple for taking their notification system in their IOS.......and this beats apple in any way....

  • @SALMANNNNNNN Because Apple doesn't want to play fair and they want to become a monopoly (although I doubt they have much of a chance now), but that's exactly why they've been suing the smaller guys first, like Samsung and HTC - just so they can creep their way closer to Google. That's exactly why Google had to buy Motorola patents, and even give some of them away to HTC to combat Apple. Microsoft can too get in a way and they can certainly try to sue them. Apple sucks!

  • Ok. Interesting in concept. Weak on UI / HW responsiveness front. (Yea, yea, ok, pre-beta, etc. got it...). Manic tie-ins between WinPh7 and Win7. Will likely confuse general consumers, i.e., not intuitive as "highly simplified " iPad, but actually more "coherent" than the Android Honeycomb "flexibility fest." Trying to be all-to-all, but NO significantly compelling reason to jump on board. Will likely attract some folks at some point. Maybe...

  • Messed with one the other day The boot time and being very snappy was a nice touch

  • Messed with one the other day. The boot time and being very snappy was a nice touch

  • I hate crapple and I love windows for my lappy operating system

To be honest, this doesn't look attractive at all and it doesn't seem very appealing either, it's not cool and it doesn't have any wow features, nothing sets it apart. It's not interesting and it's a bit dull really.

Although, there are a lot of rooms for improvement, tons of rooms

Only plus is you can switch to normal windows 7 mode but whats the point in calling it windows 8?

  • Knock off of goggle chrome and apple os still lags like all samsung tablets way sad they are just now catching up with the old technology

  • The whole point is that MS is tying together Desktop, tablet, Windows phone 7 ... as a common interface/collaboration. They are also putting in their Hyper-V in order to give the user a selection on the desktop-side.

Only MS could tie it all together - thats what Apple and Google/Droid were afraid of.

  • Windows 8 and IE10 are in the making and Microsoft is still supporting IE6!

  • for whatever reason the more i look at it the more i don't like it and think about staying on Windows 7. And I usually start running whatever OS Microsoft has asap. All that green, color tiles are just... meh, and no classic start menu...

  • Omg this guy is retarded.

  • Ugh. Even as a tablet OS it's horrible - both to look at and, from the video, to actually use. Worse, of course, is that they're going to force it onto the desktop as well. :/

  • @ogrejd

You dont get it, it gives you a CHOICE of the relar desktop or the advantage of using a windows phone 7 interface. No one is going to force you to do anything Appleboy. And I'm calling you that because Appletards rarely listen or look ( they just put their head in the ground and stroke apple)

  • '9 mississippi' was actually closer to twelve seconds

  • The amount of ignorance from these comments is amazing. I don't know if it's just that people can't accept change or if they are just not reading/processing the information right.

    1. This is barely Beta. There will obliviously be lag . but it is still pretty fast.

    2. You can do everything that you can do on a win7 pc. Everything is backwards compatible

    3. You CAN switch to traditional view at the click of an app

I bet if Apple did this same thing , people would piss there pants in excitement

  • I am not too impressed. I mean, great for tablets but for desktops or laptops. Stay with windows 7 or some build of Linux. Did you all see how many attempts it took to zoom the page?? When it finally did work, its was too sensitive. Either way, I still cruise faster on my laptop with a mouse and keyboard then this guy on a windows 8 tab.

  • @r3p3ntiv3 This is barely a Beta . It will still be more then a year or so before it's released. There are also a whole ton of features that microsoft hasn't even touched on yet. Also you can switch to traditional win 7 interface at the click of a button and it isn't even slow. Also in a couple of years your laptop will be running this exact thing.

  • i'm a PC gamer so this doesn't look like it'll be of any use to me

    pass

  • Metrosexual UI

  • Ok, great. Now how do you kill an running app?

  • The rotation animation is pretty ugly. Os got some pretty awesome functions though. (comming from a Apple fan)

  • @paatskie Probably place holder animation until finalized.

  • address bar in ie10 at teh bottom? not cool.

  • @ashwinbhat123 Having the address bar at the bottom probably makes more sense for touch interfaces, right? It feels so much easier to reach the address bar when your hands are at the bottom holding the tablet
