But not much of a glider. Two factors affect a plane's glide - aspect ratio(ratio of wingspan to wing chord) and wing loading. The wing loading of a glider is extremely low, therefore the sink rate is low. In other words, a glider lands at a low rate of speed. Not so with a gliding passenger jet. Very high wing loading and very low aspect ratio. It comes down in a hurry and at quite a steep angle, making this pilot's landing all the more impressive.

This is one of the finest pieces of intuitive flying I have ever seen. Gliding a Cessna down during an expected PFL (Practice forced landing) is one thing; landing a heavy commercial airliner on water with virtual perfection and no souls lost is absolutely awesome. Many congratulations, Captain.
