  • Snoop is such a darling !!! You have to share how did u do it!

  • i WISH i could show this to MY five month old basset hound who will NOT be trained. Lovely boy, thanks for posting. Maybe I can SHAME Basil into minding me if I tell him about this! How did you do it?

  • training and walking, hiking, hunting, and whatnot are the best ways to maintain a positive relationship with your dog that doesn't orient around misbehaving and being annoying. This here is an excellant example of a wonderful doggy! he needs to know a couple more tricks though.

  • how cute is that? ooman i love this dogs :3

  • =) Yup, he's a good boy!

  • We have a 7 month old Basset Hound Male, he is very sweet but we are having trouble because he thinks he leads the pack- so he can be very out of hand sometimes. He will also grab something that is not his and run away with it- then we cant get it back because he growls in a very mean way. Any suggestions would be great- Snoop seems very well behaved!

  • Your dog seems to be well behaved. How did you do it!? We bought 2 basset puppies of which unfortunately we had to do away with one (we couldn't handle the mess they made).

Now even with only one puppy at 10 weeks old, we can't seem to make him understand that the apartment is not his bathroom!

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi, thanks for watching Snoop's video.

Ok, first of all I don't think Bassets are long to be in apartments or condos. They get big almost everyday. They will weigh from 55-75 LBS on adult size and i tell you, that's heavy for a midget dog.

When Snoop was around 3-9 month old, all he does is play / eat / sleep. Then we gave him the basic training he needs otherwise he will turn out spoiled and will give us problems. Good thing you gave up the other basset. Just imagine 2 bassets in one apt. :)

  • I got my Basset at two and the old owners never had time for him they were always working. So they gave him to me, I could spend more time with him. He was a ball of energy from the get go. He is only now slowing down after 10 years and that is understandable. Basset's can be as smart as any other dog. Your dog looks very well behaved too.

  • Yup Bassets are smart breed but sometimes can be stubborn. Our boy pretty much behave but once in a blue moon, he gets a bit stubborn esp if he wants to play. He will tease me with his ball and make some noises. lolz We just love the breed.

  • My husband and I just rescued an eight-month-old Basset who's never...ever...been worked with in any way. We've each had plenty of Basset Hounds and we love the breed...but this boy is proving to be one heck of a challenge!

Your boy is absolutely gorgeous and very, very well behaved!

  • Hi, thank you for taking the time to watch our short video. :)

So the challenge you're getting from your adopted 8 month old Basset good or bad?

Because most of the Basset i've seen doesn't play as much as our Snoop. Last time we were walking at fisherman's warf in San Francisco and there was this 8-10 month old Basset who looks very tired and doesn't even want to lift a finger. We asked the owner and she said it's been like that eversince she got the puppy from a breeder.

    Keep us posted.

  • He just loves running, fetching and playing all day long. He doesn't sleep that long. If we're not playing with him, he plays with himself by rolling his basketball and jumping around it. I also didn't realize that basset hounds really does excel in agility exercises. :) That's new to me. Thanks!

  • If he's that energetic (and apparently not prone to being overweight), you really ought to consider trying him in an agility class (jumps, tunnels, ramps, etc). Some basset hounds are really good at it.

  • His parents are very active according to the breeder. They don't get too fat as well. Just perfect for their age. Unlike other basset, i feel sorry when i see an overfed hound. It feels really heavy by just looking at them. Oh well, other dog get spoiled some time. :)

We balance the food intake and exercise even the treats

    .

Now we're teaching him how to shake hands and roll over. lolz

  • Snoop learned how to sit when he was 2 months. He also learned the potty training at 2 month age.

Now that he's 5 month old, he loves to fetch. In my knowledge, in majority basset hounds doesn't like fetching. Snoop is very playful as well. We only see him sleep 4-6 hours daily and then boom, he plays and he plays in the backyard non-stop. Snoop isn't destructive as well. He only munch on his rope / baseball and bones. Sometimes he steal my old slippers and take it in the backyard. :) lolz

  • I wish my Basset could do that!
