For the people described in the Book of Mormon the Lord used skin color as a warning sign of wickedness, not as "dark skin=wicked". See Alma 3:6. God has used different curses at different times, so a person with dark skin in the world today is not "cursed." Mormons (besides some of the early leaders who were confused about the meaning and yet *still* never officially preached dark=wicked) do not believe God uses the same curse globally today. I am LDS. A convert. This 1 point has been a real concern 4 me as with polygamy. Back in the mid 80's I brought a black man to 1 of the YSA dances & was then shunned from then on. If I were a little older I could have seen a "good mormon" go from being a polygamist to being a monogamist.

I am LDS. A convert. This 1 point has been a real concern 4 me as with polygamy. Back in the mid 80's I brought a black man to 1 of the YSA dances & was then shunned from then on. It is different now. In my ward is a couple. 1 white & 1 black & they R not shunned, but just the opposite. It's a positive change that I welcome & has helped me through that 1 point of concern. Ppl in this country have had to grow up, Mormons too. Joseph did ordain a black man & Brigham made his share of mistakes.
