@sunnyjim98 Cooley, is faster then Gilbert, but also is more of a teacher, and most of the stuff that he plays, is part of his lessons. if you actually listen to his music, not his lessons, he has a unique voice and a decent sense of melody, nothing like Gilbert whose play is extremely vocal, but a decent sense.
Cooley is really more comparable to guys like malmsteen in terms of technical ability, but with the teaching abilities similar to satch, seems like a really cool guy.

If somebody did that on a piano nobody would give a shit. Accept it, spending most of your free time trying to do that on a guitar when you could randomly sweep on a piano, and get the same kind of thing, is FAILURE. Im not disquialifying his music, his actual music. But this is just pointless.
You can sweep on a piano, and you can play arpeggios, you can even sit on a piano! =)
Im not refering to sweeping arpeggios, one thing doesnt mean the other, but to sweeping the Cmaj scale or whatever.

Sweeping refers to the way the pick moves, 'sweeping' across the strings, so can't happen on a piano. Of course I know what you're trying to say, it was just the wrong terminology ;)
Obviously, all of Rustys' music isn't like this.
I happen to own a copy of 'Outworld' and there's alot of melodic phrase, aswell as Rustys' trademark style of shred.
And as the description of this video states, this is just Rusty Showing off, his music is not just diminished arpeggios (although he does like them ;))
I know this guy has some good songs with fucking fast bits to it, which is fine, its another style and all you want to add to that, but im talking against those songs that are 5 minutes of rushing from a fret to another, playing """"25 NPS""", and that kind of shit like if were meant to be an extension of the player's dick.

@gorgolbutt what i said wasn't in reference to this actual video. this is just him showing his speed. listen to actual pieces with speed, its used as a tool to add intensity, usually leading up to more dramatic slower parts, although people such as coltrane used it to create "sheets of sounds."
my comment was simply saying unless you have the skill of the person playing, you really have no right to judge it. no one is telling you to listen to this.

all music has emotion. what he's playing is just an exercise, not a composition. before you all go a bash him and say he doesn't play with emotion, listen to his compositions. this guy knows what he's playing and he executes it in an amazing fashion

Speed is mearly a quality acheived by excersicing your brain, to learn how to synchronize your fingers in a simultaneous fashion (when done repeadetely, you of course learn to do it gradually faster).
Now one doesn't need ANY musicality, to learn how to do a series of notes in rapid fashion, because in itself it isn't a musical quality. It is sport, not music.

Because i hear the term soul refered to sports and other shit because the person is good and they put their life into it. well from what i seen rusty has alot of hard earned talent. No. First of all, music is abstract. There is no "correct way to arrange notes", because it's all subjective, and dependant on the listener.
And the amount of effort, someone puts into practicing his _technical_ abilities, is not either soul. All that, is amount to nothing, if you can't for example write songs. "Arranging notes right modally" is not songwriting, that's depending on theoretically written "rules".

Sweeping refers to the way the pick moves, 'sweeping' across the strings, so can't happen on a piano. Of course I know what you're trying to say, it was just the wrong terminology ;)
Obviously, all of Rustys' music isn't like this.
I happen to own a copy of 'Outworld' and there's alot of melodic phrase, aswell as Rustys' trademark style of shred.
And as the description of this video states, this is just Rusty Showing off, his music is not just diminished arpeggios (although he does like them ;))

I know this guy has some good songs with fucking fast bits to it, which is fine, its another style and all you want to add to that, but im talking against those songs that are 5 minutes of rushing from a fret to another, playing """"25 NPS""", and that kind of shit like if were meant to be an extension of the player's dick.

Well that's true, but I can only really think of Micheal Angelo Batio who is JUST shred.
The fan boys try to argue differently, but even during his melodic solos he HAS so slip in some shredding, he can't stop.
It really annoys me when people talk about Shawn Lane being able to play however many notes per second, because quiet frankly, I doubt he could have cared less, his music was just purely beauty :)
