  • in my play lol

  • check it out now, funk soul brother!

  • I never liked the musical " Sweet Charity " but I've always loved this song , one of Sammy Davies Jnrs best :D x

  • Did you record this in an underwater cutlery factory, cos it sounds like shit.

  • AMEN!!!

  • 4:48 - Harpsichord Suite in G minor, 6th Movement?

  • well often there is "nothing new". Our daughter sang in a winning choir when at junior school a few years ago and they recorded this. I had no idea this song went back so far. Great to see.

  • 14 people have no rhythm

  • 13 people has no rythm !

  • also see "I Love You, Alice B. Tolkas." It's also a good satire on hippes. Peter sellers.

  • Ah, those were the days. I was young then and bought wholesale into all that hippie peace and love optimism and "can do" stuff . I especially loved Sammy Davis Jr. He was the best of the "Rat Pack" and a great mover. Sigh.

  • Well, we all know it's weird, and that they're most likely high or something, but I still feel all happy when I hear it. :)

  • That move at 3:57 is unreal...love it

  • Gone, but never ever forgotten

  • An the beat goes on...uh uh uh uh ....sooooo cool maaaaan :))

  • love sweet charity

  • Love it love it love it

  • This was an incredible screen version of the musical. While the musical stood on it's on, it is scenes like this that shows the brilliance of production as well as acting/singing. For instance, in this scene, Edith Head had to create 105 unique looks that while different, had to tie together in theme - she did this in three days for design. Lighting, music and choreography are amazing. I cry when I watch this scene.

  • omg, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!

  • I haven't seen the film but... hippie version of Rocky Horror show, anyone?

  • Both of my choirs are singing this and it's SO much fun!

  • The lyrics to this song are quite, Meh. The singing is less then average! There are too many Hippie's.. And everyone's so happy? (Perhaps they're smoking something)

Wondering how I love this so much, and I would've loved to have been there.. Looks like fun :)

  • The man was a one off have a lp of him from 1968 what a priceless my mum and dad bought not realising lol x

  • My High school show choir AND my college men's glee club did this song 25 years ago! What was the big attraction, I still don't know!

  • Doing this in choir, with altered lyrics. Im curious to the meaning of the song

  • @YuGiOhPlanet

In the play Sweet Charity Charity is with a stranger named Oscar. Oscar is a claustrophobic accountant. Charity is trying to find the meaning of her life. Oscar is seeking a path to happiness. He takes her to a church called The Rhythm of Life Church. Sammy Davis at the start of the song implies that he is a fake, but he has a congregation of devotees. This is the net result. Remember "Daddy" as in who's your daddy.

  • Yessss, my school is doing this as a drama/musical and i'm in the choir so i get 2 sing it what i should have said me ,my friend and another million random girls some i know some i don't

  • "Queen " shirley once paid me a visit......it's true....you can ask warren beattys sister

  • The "HIT THE FLOOR AND CRAWL TO DADDY" at 5:59 is what i look forward to the most.

such a smooth man, absolutely love him

  • @HarryJayy I absolutley love you <3

  • Love the moves-abstract expressionism in the medium of human body

  • is this from a movie?

  • @taco0312 It is, it's from the film adaptation of “Sweet Charity”.

  • Sammy Davis Jr. and Bob Fosse --- a considerable combination!

  • Unfortunately too many superannuated amateur choirs perform this and make it sound like "The Rattle of Death".

  • Unfortunately too many superannuated amateur choirs perform this and make it sound like "The Rattle of Death".

  • @ISTeslaYT i like you lol. you seem really nice lol

  • @ISTeslaYT cuz black ppl are awesome. luv being one too

  • @ISTeslaYT

Wow! Ur not highly observant. Jazz was invented by black musicians in New Orleans, Chicago, New York and such. It's a slave beat is what it came from. There are good white jazz musicians. I'll list them off if you want me to. However, I'll leave you to feel dumb for the time being.

  • A fantastic singer. Simply mint. Great big personality from such a little man

  • I had never seen this clip. Thank you for posting this.

  • Love tisssssssssssssssssss!

  • Sammy is either loved or hated. He was a unique person that at times being a characture of himself. Personally I miss him and will all the remaining days of my life. What a great talent, unique.

  • well a major concern innit

  • Classic!!!!

  • Dignified and ULTRA coool!!!

  • This video is nothing short of brilliant. I remember learning this song in music classes at primary school.

  • Awsome, best number of all times. Sammy Davis as a Hippie..............So Cool....

  • Probably the best six minutes Sammy Davis, Jr. ever commited to celluloid. He's got a great song (by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields), great Bob Fosse direction/choreography and great backup performers.

  • That's hot!!!

  • I saw sweet charity for first time month ago, was very surprised at 'hey big spender' - different to how I'd heard it before. and this song - wow, mesmerising...!

  • I miss Sammy Davis Jr...........Member of the Rat Pack..........and the Coolest Hippie!

  • This song was one of the last songs at the Schools Spectacular in 2007, I love this song.

  • please tell me if there is a recording of this whole segment - including hymn-like section at very beginning

  • I love this song but wtf are they talkin about xD

Is there anyway to get the one that sounds like the one in the guiness commercial of evolution on limewire or some other place?

  • You're young! :D It makes a bit more sense to those of us over the age of 40, especially growing up in San Francisco in the 60's. I vaguely remember...I just love the whole The Beat Generation embraces Bach Fugue thing. The other fun thing about this particular scene is that we hear police sirens immediately after the song finishes and everyone scatters in different directions. Hide the weed! Classic stuff.

  • Eh, I don't nessicarily need to understand it then xD

But god I love this song to death! Maybe because I like big swing bands, and this kinda has that feel to it...

Oh well. DO NOT QUESTION LOVE! xDDD

Thanks for explainin' a bit tho ^.^

  • I want to dance like that down the High St.

  • Magic Moments - Just Brilliant -

  • this is the best musical to date!

  • when did sammy die and how did he die

  • he died in 1990 losing his fight with lung cancer.

  • I'm doing this song in my chorus. Only our version is a lot less kinky, considering the fact that we have 6 year olds singing the song!!!

  • broadway meets the 70s... whoa

  • There will Never be another Sammy Davis Jr. He was one of the "Rat Pack" and in this muscical he was the best Hippie of all time.........Very Groovy.

  • Sammy was the best! I loved his energy and voice. I wish he hadn't smoked and was still around. Great entertainer!!

  • One of the best movie musical sequences ever! Sammy should have gotten a supporting Oscar for this.

  • Clip your wings and fly to daddy. That's cool, man. Like the true cat you are, man. Relax, let's groove, you cattest of cool, groovy catmando cats.

  • Yeah, but my cats think this song is about them!

  • I agree...Mr. SDJ was a genius...A real triple-threat...He broke the mold...This number gives me goosebumps...That's the point of the 60s...NONE of THIS makes sense, if you really think about it.

  • oooh yeaaah...

wow i hav a killer of a headache

  • This is the best song in the musical, and it is funny to see a sample of what the 60's were like. And Sammy Davis Jr. was Awesome. May he rest in peace.

  • And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,

Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,

Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,

Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat. Oustanding!!!!

  • The 60s made no sense

  • You would have to experience the previous decade to understand all the commotion.

  • on fire.

  • "out there ma-n"

  • HOW COOL

  • QUALITY THIS TUNES ON THE GUINESS BEER ADVERT XD! awesome

  • I danced to this song in a dance show when I was 5, and had completely forgotten it. The song brings back memories, the video clip is new but wonderful. Go, Sammy!

  • I've been meaning to look this up for years...well worth the wait. One of my alltime favourites! I remember seeing this performed by 6 puppeteers and their puppets when I was young in the 70's, all dressed in different colours. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere - does anyone out there remember seeing this or have a copy? Pleeease!

  • momento supremo del musical de todos los tiempos. espléndido Sammy! y espléndida coreografía!

gracias lilitayaya por compartirlo con nosotros!

  • "Flip your wings and fly to your daddy

Take a dive and swim to your daddy

Hit the floor and crawl to your daddy!"

    "Yeah!

    let me hear it!

    suck it to me!

    let it all hang out!"

    Yeah funky Sammy whoohoo!

  • One of the great songs of the musical theater that doesn't get its deserved recognition.

  • Aw man I can't stop watching this! Pllleaaase can you give me a copy!

  • Sammy Davis jr. Wonderful !!!

  • my favourite song ever :)

  • I once posted the lyrics for this song in a personals ad just as a joke, but I got A LOT of responses from men who wanted to meet me. They thought the words were incredible.

  • No one will ever touch the late, great Sammy!

  • GOD Bless Sammy for doing this movie and being the best Hippie!

  • If you love this musical number check out "The Eygptian club" dance scene with Ricardo Montalban. I

  • Splendid! I've loved this song for years and never seen that. Utterly strange and wonderful.

  • Excellent ensemble performance, nice threads, SD's work is still underestimated today despite his talent bursting through in turbulent times. Check out his life story.
