@YummyYogaBear If you work hard and learn as much as you can, you can study whatever you want! It does not have to be fish. That's just what I study because that's what I like!
hello my name is kyla and im 11 i really really want to be a marinebiologist because i love sea animals.i am studding even know im only in year 5 i know about alot about mamals fish and the mantle ray. thats all i have so please write back to me.
@lolbabeey Well hello there Miss Kyla. I'm Grant and I am 29! It sounds like you do know a lot already. Keep it up and you will be a better marine biologist than me! P.S. Manta Rays are REALLY cool! :)
i wanna become a navy special forces deep sea diver, and go to college to be a marine biologist, science is my strongest subject but math is my weakest cNt wait!!!!
@jwaffles011 Don't worry. You'll learn that math! Especially if you are gonna be spending so much time underwater! You better know your blood chemistry too! ;)
@kelecy98 Hi there! There are lots of good colleges for marine biology. Where do you live? There are great options in the Unites States, Mexico, UK, Canada, Australia and many more all around the world!
Hey, I'm currently a freshman in high school and I want to be a marine biologist. Math and science are my strongest subjects while I do very well in all others. If you're an experienced marine biologist and you have any advice I would really appreciate it. Thankyou!
@Champnumber39 I'm about to graduate with a degree in Marine & Freshwater Biology after four years at University, I'd recommend taking Biology, Geography, Maths and although it was my least favourite subject, Chemistry, it is very important when you reach college! Also try and get as much experience in the field as possible, look for voluntary posts which might boost your CV and set you apart from the others, check my page on our trip to Egypt hopefully it will inspire you more!
@Champnumber39 Well, it just so happens that I AM an experienced marine biologist. Ha. It's what I do! It sounds like you are on the right track. Stay interested and keep doing well in those core subjects!
Marine Biology is my calling. I am VERY interested in it. I am a senior in High School and I plan to go to College in 2012 for Marine Biology. I cannot wait. By the way Mathematics is my weakest subject. But I'm sure it's basic material with Marine Biology. Message me if you are a experienced Marine Biologist and want to give me tips or pointers. Thank You.
@TheNerdatron123 I AM an experienced marine biologist. It's what I do. The math with some marine biology (not mine) is actually very advanced. Trust me, though, if you need it, you'll learn it. It's worth it! Any specific questions?
marine biology has always been a big future option for me, but I was never sure. I think it was just the act of choosing a career that intimidated me. I am 16 right now, so there's still time to smooth out plans and everything. thank you for your help, you really helped me gain some perspective on this field!
I'm only 13 and for a while now i have considered being a marine biology. Science is my faviorite subject and I'm interested in marine life and just animals in general. This video is very helpful and now I know what I need to work towards. Thank you very much
by any chance, do you live in La Paz? I´m mexican and the cross where you pointed the place you live seemed like La Paz to me. Im actually thinking about going to La Paz to study marine biology, supposedly the UABCS is the best school for marine biology in Mexico. Do you recomend me going there? Im still not sure where I should study.
@leonardomedina91 Hola! Good guess. I live in San Diego, but I work in La Paz and have been here for two months. I will return back to San Diego soon. You are correct that UABCS is one of the best (maybe the number 1) school in Mexico para obtener tu licenciatura. I definitely recommend it. There are lots of good researchers there studying everything from corals and algae to whales and seabirds. Let me know what you decide! Do live in Baja already?
@ggalland No I dont live in Baja, Ive been living in Monterrey for 2 years, studying to be a chemical engineer, but I decided Im gonna drop out, and study marine biology instead. I think I´ll move to La Paz in January.
One other thing, which do you think is better? To graduate from college with a degree in marine biology, and specialize in whatever field you like; or graduate from college with a general biology, or a science degree, and then specialize in marine biology.
@leonardomedina91 That's quite a change! I think graduating with a marine biology degree is ok as long as you work hard to make sure that you are very good at general biology and some other things as well. You may decide you don't want to be a marine biologist someday. Also, when you go to graduate school (pretty much required for MB), they will want to see that you are good at that other stuff as well. Either way, UABCS is a great option. I am giving a presentation there tomorrow!
@ggalland yeah I know, big change, but you gotta do what you love right? Now I just have to decide whether to study at UABCS or in UMAR, in Oaxaca, but I think I´ll end up in La Paz.
Anyway, thank you for the information, youpve been really helpful, I really appreciate it.
Good luck in your preesentation tomorrow! Hope everything works out.
@ggalland I would like to ask your thoughts on me maybe going to Dalhousie University of Science to become a Marine Biologist. Also, I would appreciate some alternate Universities and/or College's good for Marine Biology. I live in Ontario, Canada. So if there's anything close for me, that would be very helpful.
@xXDeapAbyssXx Hi. There are tons of good marine biology schools in Canada, Dalhousie being one of them. They aren't necessarily close, but they are in your country. Check out Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, and University of Victoria as well. Notice a pattern in their location? Woods Hole near Boston is closer than those three. We have lots of Canadians at Scripps in San Diego.
@ggalland hi, id love to study fish and was wondering a few things. What grades do you need? also, wats the type of wage ( sorrry, i bet you get asked this loads )
@1Filmproducer you need pretty good grades; just push yourself. marine biologists get paid very different wages depending on where they live and what they do. there is no real answer to that one...
@courtinii Ha! Good question. Well, I'm still a student. A graduate student working on my Ph.D. But that means I am already a marine biologist and already working as one (but that my current work applies to my degree as well). If you want to be a project leader and get to do mostly what you want to do instead of working on other projects, you need a Ph.D. If you don't mind working on projects and ideas from other people, you only need a Bachelors or Masters degree. I hope that helps.
in what occasion do you use math?? I just recently took biology this past year and have realized that I want to be a marine biologist, but math is my very weak point.
hi, I have been looking at being a marine biologist for a very long time now. I am currently A* in biology and A in math and chemistry at Gcse (British grading). I am heading to college soon and i was just wondering what other subject would be key or helpful for becoming a marine biologist ?
@arroncockell Hi. Definitely computers. We use computers a lot. And definitely writing/speaking. I have to write about or speak to someone about my research nearly every day. Good luck in your upcoming college studies!
im still young and im just choosing gcse options this week, what subjects do you think will really help me along . im taking triple sciences and others , and im going to further math. please reply..!!
@MrRusTeeZ Well, let's see. If you are taking that much science and math, it sounds like you are on the right track. You should also concentrate on computers, and of course (like i keep saying) your writing. Good luck!
@777unknown333 Just pay attention in all of your classes. You would be surprised how much I use math and English, even though I am a biologist. I'm sure you'll do great! And you have plenty of time to think about what you might want to study.
@angelwidplaguez Sure, it's hard sometimes! But that should not discourage you. Hard jobs are more fun, and being a marine biologist may be the most fun job of all!
@ggalland hello again, im getting better grades however to get into university i need 4 highers (scottish thing) anyways, would i still get into marine biology course if i have a higher in drama? ( im aiming for ones in biology, georgraphy and maths)
@JDAwesomeO Of course! If you have highers in biology, geography, and math, you will do great in marine biology. And believe me, drama sure won't hurt you either.
@mustang65fastford I wouldn't worry too much about the job part just yet. If you really want to be a MB, then I am sure you can succeed. However, some examples of places to work include universities, government offices (all around the world, but in the U.S. where I live, examples include National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, etc.), or NGOs (like World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, or Oceana). Look up some of those and see what you like!
@gglland hello there, im currectly in high school and im an A studient in georgraphy and maths, im having a lil trouble with biology but im trying to turn that around and chemistry i get a little bit confused with. I want to be a marine biologist, what do you think?
@JDAwesomeO I think that if you want to be a MB, then you should definitely go for it! It sounds like you are already building lots of the necessary skills. Keep up the good work.
i always liked the ocean and going to the national aquarium as a kid. I'm considering doing this. In the US are all the schools for marine biologists in the West coast?
@YawningBoy Nope. There are lots of schools on the East Coast. Some of the best ones that come to mind are University of Miami and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Check 'em out!
@YawningBoy Well, science can be hard. But anything is hard, really. I'm sure that you can do it, especially if you start building those general skills like writing and math. I have no doubt that you can succeed!
I'm a junior in high school and I am interested in helping animals who have been caught in oil spills. I'm not the best in biology, but I do take physics and I excel in math. Do you have any career suggestions for me?
