  • the red cichlids of yours look great. Are they red zebras (pulu point)? If so do you feed them hormone colour enhancer food?

Thanks. I have been trying to find some quality red zebras but have been told the key to their colour is frequent water changes and colour enhancer food

  • Hi

I just got sand 2 days ago for my tank but i can't seem to be getting rid of the algae lying on top of the sand.

Nice tank by the way !

  • Are Cichilds hard fish to care for?

  • What kind of rock is that?

  • @ryan0449 Lace rock.

  • 00:20

  • What is that electric blue fish at 00.20

  • what type of plants do you have in the back . if you could let me know what types they are i would really appreciate it. thanks

  • They survive with Aragonite but they really don't thrive with that kind of substrate. With sand they get to siphon pass their gills to collect very small food particles that we can't see. siphoning sand also helps clean out their gills. However, Aragonite is good for PH control. even if you keep a small section of sand in your 220g, you will see the difference in behavior. Fish waste stays on top of sand no siphon need just scoop it out. Two sand bags and you'll have the perfect tank.

  • @illmiss Substrate is Aragonite

  • AFRICANS CICHLIDS NEED SAND NOT CRUSH CORAL ... do LOTS of research and you will understand the NEED and benefits of sands. it's not just About a tank looking pretty... it's should first be about the fish and a decent environment.

  • @agoge72 Substrate is Aragonite and AC do fine with it as a substrate.

  • @illmiss check out my cichlid gravl to aragonite proccess

  • @agoge72 Actually crushed coral keeps the Ph good. Cichlids like really hard water, crushed coral helps acquire this. So in other words AFRICAN CICHLIDS DON'T NEED SAND THEY NEED CRUSH CORAL.

  • That's A LOT of money swimming around in there lol, Screw what people say the tank and fish look great! What kind of filtration are you running? Gotta be good to have all those fish.

  • @phazon1029 Thank you!!!... He is using a 65 gal sump

  • gorgeous tank and fish.....on that note, they are all a lil too fat. cut back on your feeding a tad. Fish get enough protein in one feeding than they do from scavenging in the wild for about 3 days. Wild lake fish are very thin. Thin fish also are healthier and the ovaries do not get fatty deposits around them. Thus, actually producing more eggs, and more frequent cycles. ;)

  • why are you hating on his tank it is amazing

  • im sorry thats a common set up.. and i think your a beginner... thats all.

  • @pinoybigbreeder Ha.. that's YOUR opinion... I beg to differ. His tank is one of THE BEST i have seen in person AND on youtube.

  • Goregeous tank and fish. Its great to see someone taking great care of their cichlids. Crushed coral is the way to go!

  • @illmiss i heard farhan lalji in the background your canadian

  • every time I ever fed my Africans pellets they would inevitably get bloat, even the pellets that were made for Africans.

  • @twasbrillig33 I use NLS and have had no problems sorry about you luck though.

  • 1. Cool Frontosa and um i have one of the "assorted" african cichlids in my tank and i have no clue what kind he is.. i saw the same species in ur video at 0:05. mine looks just like the whitish pink one but blue and yellow

  • i love the electrich yellows

  • What kind of substrate is that? I'm getting a 125 in about 4 months for my Africans and I was going to do white sand...I keep hearing about using Pool filter sand, is that any good? Or will it throw my ph and ammonia off?

  • @JGS187

from what i know pool filter sand is a really small grade sand and poorouse to culture the bacteria in the filter, i would stick with crushed coral its always worked for me

  • @JGS187 USE WHITE SILICA SAND

  • @JGS187 Substrate is Aragonite

  • @JGS187 I'm setting up a 75gallon. Went with pool filter sand at Home Depot for an incredible low price. Checked pool filter and at my pool store, and it was full of small chards, rough edges. Home Depot pool filter sand look/feels much better. It's not white, but tan-ish.

  • @dyamarick Would you mind posting a video or taking some pictures and sending them to me over youtube?

  • @JGS187 Pool filter sand is comepletely inert, in other words it has no chemicals in it at all, it's JUST sand. It also won't cloud your water as much, if at all, when you add it in, unlike sand-box/ play sand will.

I wouldn't use anything white for the substrate, MY retnas are burning already simply at the thought, let alone what the poor fish would have to experience.

Sand is a nice, natural substrate, pretty much found in any 'wild' aquatic habitat, including rivers and streams.

  • @JGS187 ... Not to mention extremely cheap. My local pool shop charges $10 for a 50 lb. bag.

Although I'm sure, now being 11 months later, you've already gotten your tank and picked your substrate anyway.

  • love the tank m8 check mine out ?

  • Nice combo of plants and lace rock...most african tanks don't have the plant thing going on. This tank makes me miss my Africans...I converted to So Americans after 20 plus years of the African experience.

  • I hear drinking scotch is really good for cichlids.

  • Very nice tank!!!!

  • is that just stacked lava rock? I love how you tank looks!

  • @LIDZnKICKZ Thanks!!

    It is Lace Rock :)

  • how many cichlids do you have?

  • whats filter are you using?

  • Wow much respect, you should check out my newly updated 80 gallon tank and let me know what you think (its in my videos) I have a few of the same fish just a few years behind lol

  • how come the african cichlids at petsmart don't look this pretty.

  • @jolseen Because they need TLC:) Most pet shops don't know how to care for certain fish and just throw them in any tank with any fish thus making them look like poop. ;)

  • @illmiss Also, Petsmart doesn't keep them at the proper pH...It's too low...Petco and specialty shops are the best for the Cichlids

  • @illmiss there alos usually young fish in the petstores and you know how fish look so much brighter when they get bigger. Do you feed them blood worms? that also helps make their colors brighter :-)

  • @ejmcgeever Blood Worms do not make there colours brighter nor do they do hardly anything to the fish, most bloodworm brands have around 90% moisture (water) in them and they give africans "malawi Bloat" because they cant digest bloodworms like other fish and they bloat up and die.

  • @jolseen Yea they dont know what they are talking about they said a Betta fish would eat any fish that was in its tank i had to remove my betta from my new 16 gal tank because my mollies were nipping at it try not to buy from petlan or petsmat also wallmart if you live in ohio Jack's Aquarium and Pets Is a good place if you want fish that are really good Aquarium Adventure is really good

  • @jolseen Plus a lot of times they are still too young for the bright colors.

  • Are you using a paper sheet to get that blue background in your aquarium?

  • @SirianKings no it is painted on the glass....

  • 0:53 blah blah blah "holy shiiit"

  • Nice and classy looking tank. Good job! Do these fishes have a personality?

  • to the person with clown loach get some snails to feed loach

  • Loaches are perfect for cichlid tanks

  • actually i noticed that when i feed them the flakes, the clown loach gets some of the flakes. plus he cleans all the algae too. i think he will be okay.

  • How many cichlids can i use for a 180 gallon tank ?? Do mention the ratio of Male and females in each species ..

  • hey i have a problem. i have a tank of cichlids and one clown loach. i bought some sinkable disks for the clown loach, but the cichlids are eating them before the clown loach even has a chance. any tips?

  • @brandonkr I wouldn't have a clown with cichlids... maybe get rid of him.. it will be very hard to get food to a botton feeder with a bunch of hungry AC in the tank... sorry best advice i could give you

  • @illmiss yep, they dont belong together

  • @illmiss everyone i kno who keeps cichlids keeps clowns with them

  • @illmiss ya good idea cause my loach is now pretty skinny. i have him in a seperate tank now to get him back up to health and hopefully a fish store in town will take him. but now i dont have a bottom feeder in my main cichlid tank. is it best to not have one? i heard they make more of a mess than they actually clean.

  • @brandonkr use pellets and drop them to the bottom using a drinking straw

  • @alanrichieisuberpr0 good idea but as soon as i lift the straw, the cichlids will go right after it lol. i just took the loach out cause he wasnt doing well anyways.

  • @brandonkr Use a piece of PVC pipe

  • i have a 46 gallon tank with a fluval 305 canister filter which is for up to 70 gallons.... right now there is 6 african cichlids and ajack dempsey how many more afriican cichlids can i add???

  • are the plants real or fake?

  • dude!!!! i am so freaking jealous!!!!!!!!!!! why cant my tank look like that :( hey what fish is that under your frontosa at 0:45 the white one with the black stripe down through its eyes.

  • @ptaccone

    Placidochromis electra

  • @bubbaguyguitar I would say about 10 for now.. when they grow a bit you will need to updrade

  • nice check me out som time

  • Absolutely beautiful! Once I get out of college and buy a house I want to get a big chiclid tank!

  • can you give me a list of some africans because i have a 55 gallon of africans

  • my question is how to clean a sand substrate? cuz i had gravel and could just vacuum that but was tired of spending money on buffering products so i bought sand but now im just having issues cleaning it? any good ideas would b appreciated

  • Can you recomend any malawi mbuna cichlids that are not too agressive and suitable for a 215l tank (about 45 gallons i think) Thanks

  • how many african cichlids can i put in a 30 gallon? please reply :)

  • @Gaby3898 i wouldnd't add more then 15... most get large and you would eventually have to upgrade your tank anyway :)

  • @illmiss what kinds of african cichlids would you recommend?

  • @Gaby3898 In this tank there are many and from different lakes.. but my fav are Lake Malawi cichlids.... grab some yellow labs, red zebras, gold peacoks, brevinidus etc

  • wow!!

  • i love this tank so ah let me have ur fishes

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing tank. I absolutely love it.

One question, those grassy groupings coming up out of the rock work... what are they?

They look like these artificial bunches that I saw at Micheal's the other day. I had thought about getting some but didn't know if it would be ok in water.

  • awsome set up! Well stocked too.

  • Amazing... im so jealous. Thats one of the coolest freshwater tanks ive ever seen! What do you think the price would be for all the decor you have?

  • it's a type of crushed coral and no under gravel filter.. just the 2 overflows into the 60 gal sump:)

  • thanks! did you have to do anything to re enforce your floor? my tank is only 72 gallons and it's heavy as shit, i can only imagine how heavy yours is

  • Really nice tank! Healthy looking fish

  • Thats an impressive mix of cichlids/colors.

They all look so fat and healthy. Great job.

  • that's a lot of fish!

  • just how it should be

  • really nice looking calvus, all the fish's colors would look much nicer if you put in a darker gravel or black sand

  • i hate plants in an african cichlid tank

  • eyebiters hang out in reeds... all sorts of malawi intereact with plants all around the shorline.

  • @krisalex18 your fucking retarded the oscar is a cichlid that is definetly capable of killing everything in the tank when its gets to be 18 inches long!

  • @jokeman02 they rarely get to that size
