This just shows how amazing God, nature and parenthood is. Got to admit though that when the baby came out and she wasn't breathing or moving I was getting scared and worried just like the mother did. And afterwards did a big sigh of relief when the baby did come to life.

Fantastic! You never tried to fix what was never broken! I didn't see a placenta, but that, still pulsating, would have kept the baby oxygenated for that time when not breathing! 2 things cracked me up....'baby 'moving into delivery area'' & that rupture of membranes ~ that was a veritable tidal wave! WOW! These are amazing intelligent beings! Wonderful to see. Poor mother was frantic! If shes going to be kept in captivity it was very redundant for the person to say "let nature take its course" Thats total crap that anyone would say that for a captive animal. Thank God the mother did well on her own in getting the baby to breath in this case. Its heartbreaking these animals are tortured in circuses everyday for our amuzement. They are wonderful!

that is just the excess blood that the elephant needed for pregnancy. Remember it is mixed with aniotic fluid so looks much more.

You can watch many amazing human births on here, but look for homebirth/waterbirth rather than American style drama birth!

This is a film that I recommend that expectant parents check out, rather than to watch so many birth programs that show women in so many unnatural positions. The mother elephant, who does not have the benefit of giving birth in the wild (she would have been surrounded by other females, and the great amount of fluid would have quickly soaked into the earth), nevertheless finds the way to resuscitate her baby. She didn't have to take a course or read a book.
