I LOVE this movie/musical,but I feel sad for Phantom since the only reason he is the way he is was because he was abused pretty badly as a child & just needed someone in his life to love him so he would no longer be alone or unloved. Other than that,I'd say the very ending of the movie is especially depressing despite the songs themselves are as beautiful as Christine's voice itself. Bravo for such a wonderful performance,even though my high school choir sang this in my sophmore year! lol.

@iristhevampiress I always think the Phantom would have turned out differently, had he known love and acceptance while he was growing up. Unfortunately, by the time he becomes an adult, his soul is too damaged by hatred and vengence.

Imo, Christine does feel some love and compassion for him, but his ruthlessness, obsessiveness and capacity for violence means that she can't be with him.

It's amazing how powerful songs like this are, the Phantom originally fell in love with Christine's voice but over time he fell in love with her. The ending of the movie is so sad because the rose and ring on Christine's grave means that the Phantom is still alive and still loves her as much as he did all them years ago.

I love this scene! They are so sweet together, and you can tell Raoul is a good guy and really cares about her. Unlike someone who just wants to keep her as a slave to sing for him and will kill if he doesn't get what he wants. Not to mention the fact that he would've been a grown man when she was a young girl. Of course I don't blame him, he was obviously messed up by what happened to him, and the fact that he never had a family didn't help much either.
