  • this pattern goes good with any chord pattern. i enjoy playing this is the key of G ;)

  • great stuff! I've just uploaded a groovy A Minor backing track myself

  • with very few guitarists to jam with, i resort to making my own jam tracks. one problem: they all suck.

luckily i have this video. thank you so much for this track! i'm really grateful for this video :)

  • awesome !

  • Youtube fucked all the old videos over where people point to the right side box that isn't there anymore.

  • dudes got skills...drink it in r dont, either way FUCK OFF..

  • Wow, lots of complaining as if you people can't just do one little click. >.>

Im amazed you want to solo seems to take much more work...I'll leave it at that.

David great video again and I like the way you tell us which scales will sound nice over this jam track! Rock on good people!! :)

  • @Goof995 And we hate you. Dont know why never really cared for trollish people.

  • that is probably the coolest strat Ive seen maybe even a little cooler if it had a rosewood fretboard

  • vuvuzela

  • the jam starts at 7:55 so if anyone wants skip about what he says

  • David, what guitar are you using here? loving the headstock! :D

  • It's all Greek to me.

  • seriously people sign up 2 the email list. the tracks are good

  • Dave you are the man!!!

  • Thanks for the lesson and advice. Been playing 30 plus years for fun and its refreshing to see a basic, easy to use lesson from an obvious pro.

  • talk talk talk.... boring...

  • How long do you stay warmed up if you warm up and practice scales for 1 and a half or 2 hours? Can you like have lunch and continue later without having to warm up again?

  • i love this guy

  • yeah this guys the man

  • omg u are frkn awesome.. i learned alot man

  • hey good lesson, but isnt this more about the JAM track and not really about how to build a STRAT?? haha j.j.

  • SirRiffraf ur an idiot xD

     read the title

  • Wow, Dave, you didn't actually start the jam track until 7:53 or so...

  • is that a "fender stratocaster deluxe powerhouse" ?

  • that is a beautiful guitar.

  • Just to be honest... you talked a little too long.....

  • thats a teacher

  • wat if ur jamming in major?

  • then just switch scales from minor to the relative major

  • damn... love it... awesome beautiful track to jam

  • Great jam track!

  • what frets to put your fingers on

  • Wrongo my friend. For the majority of the video the numbers mean what notes in the key are in the scale hes speaking about. For example: 1= the root note 2=the second b3= flat third 4= fourth b5= flat five 5= the fifth 6= the sixth b7= the flat seventh, and 7=the seventh.

  • yeah but he explain it good

  • this helped me out a lot. i didnt know dorian scales were any good for blues. also i never thought about analyzing every chord in a song xd thanks dude

  • 7:53

  • yo your headstock is likeur pickguard all shiny and sexy! xD

  • sweet guitar dude, love the headstock and pick guard, and it has a wicked tone!

  • The smile:D

  • i just jammed hard to this jam track.

  • YOU ROCK

  • OMG ur head stock is sooo sickk

  • I don't like how our replies to comments usually appear as if they're new comments and end up not always making sense. Probably causes more confusion than we even realize.

  • This jam track goes with a lesson series of easy blues licks for beginners. That's why it isn't too complex and includes some instruction.

I do wish the jam alone--without any talking--was available as a loopable track, though.

  • get band in a box

  • I just looked it up and Band in a Box looks really cool. Thanks for the suggestion. Will be quite a while before I can justify buying it, though. This Taub track is the first I've tried to play along to and it really does make things nicer.

  • if i had money i would totally spend it on your sight.

  • nice lesson I enjoy playin over it !!! thanks Rob

  • I love the pearl headstock cover. Where can I get one?

  • Me 2 if you find out PLEASE tell me

  • im pretty sure it came custom.

  • thx a lot, i learned a lot.

  • Thanks for everything :) you're wonderful guys! I've just downloaded the tracks

  • Ha. I know what you mean. I'm ready to just quit watching it if he doesn't start playing soon.....

  • Do you relaise a lesson does not have to include any playing at all, it's called THEORY. You usually learn theory before you attempt something so that you pick it up as swiftly as possible and do not get lost halfway through (this doesn'yt just apply to guitar playing but other things that involve learning).

  • I agree. I've gotten a lot of valuable info and tips just listening.

  • cool

  • some say David taub's cap is actualy part of his head

  • lol! nice observation :P

  • I have a fender amp its a good amp but i think i need to change my guitar I have a Cruise VMI (yea i Knoe) im not sure if i should change it to a brand knew fender stratocaster or buy a les paul (kinda expensive for me)but idk whats da diffrence between them...

  • between a les paul and a strat? :S its like night and day! strats are brighter sounding, and les pauls are warmer sounding. humbuckers give the warmer tone (les pauls) single coils give the brighter tone (strats). depends what kinda nusic you wanna play tho what you should get.

  • i other words gibson guitars are better...o yes i said it.

  • lol. depeneds what you wanna play. for metal hard rock? yeah a les paul wins ever time. but if you wanna play blues or reggae or anything you want a birhgter sound for? strats win every time. neither is "better" on its own. it depends on the ocntext of your playing.

  • I personally like Strats, because there really isn't much you can't do with it... except for Jazz, I don't like Strats for jazz.

  • I'm a beginner, I just want to know how you get that blues tone, is it the guitar or is it the amp? I have a hamer stratocaster and a small ibanez amp and it does not have that creamy tone.

  • its mostly the amp you want a good fender amp for good blues tone and if you dont have that set treble on 7 and bass on 2-4 with no distortion and maybe use you neck pickup too.

  • try find an ibanez tube screamer pedal

  • Personally, I think it's more the pickups you use. A higher end Stratocaster, or higher end Strat pickups, will give you a better sound for Blues.

You want some epic Blues pickups, check out Texas Special Strat pickups.

  • Something i would like to add...

When you are soloing with different scales related to each chord sepparately, be extremely careful with your bends, cause a misplaced bend can ruin the whole phrase you're doing... as stupid as it may sound, this is incredibly important

  • Yeah but once you get good you start bending off key notes unpurpose. Mixing in a little controlled chaos gives it that hendrix type of sound.

  • DT!! i lover vids, i always end up with my guitar in my lap after watching ur stuff... this jam track rocks!

  • very good and easy to understand explanation of soloing in different keys and scale modes...!

  • its david taub nigga, have some respect.

  • I second that.

  • Love your videos...but would like to suggest...this video is 11 minutes long. You talked over 6 minutes before you ever hit a lick on the guitar. How about PLAYING what you are talking about first...then talking, so we have an overview of what you are saying.

  • Uhm.

The strat was designed by a guitarist?

    You're thinking of the telecaster.

  • love your videos! dave and the rest of the nextlevelguitar gang, you guys rock.

  • I love that headstock on the strat. nice x]

  • I HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR YOUR VIDEOS

    * can you please provide information on what guitar/amp/effects you are using in each video. that would help a lot !!

    please consider ^^

    thanks! you're videos are amazing!

  • My best guess is a Stratocaster guitar (some delux model) using 2nd position on the pickup selector. He's probably using a solid state amp since he needs to keep the volume low so he can talk over it. Maybe even using that valve gadget he demoed a little while ago. I'm guessing a good amount of reverb, and a little crunch.

  • I really liked that lesson! Very helpful. Also, I like the descriptiveness of the backing track so I can recreate it for myself to play over. Thanks for the awesome lesson, I'm subscribing to that site!

  • i love blues guitsr. can you try to review on the epiphone emily the strange SG

  • This is awesome !

I was jamming with it and it sounded really nice.

  • those #9 chords always remind me of Jimi.

  • SOunds like Money by Pink Floyd

  • i hate strats, they have no range. i have a jagstang, this guy reviewed one and they are so much more versatile than the strat

  • Telecasters! All the way! Single coil pickup's aren't always heavy enough for me. I use my duncan humbucker on my Strat.

  • yeah! i love teles. second fave guitar behind jagstang . they are so good.

  • Nothing is more versatile than a strat... Thats why they have been so popular since their inception

  • mjd9208: While Strats are versatile, I find that Teles are even more versatile than Strats.

I mean, both Strats and Teles can be used, with ease, in blues, jazz, rock and country, but Teles are still the best for country and they can still be used in all those other genres with great tones.

Check out some of Danny Gatton's playing for one of the best Tele users in history.

  • @McNugget94

    Is that make any sense?

  • how do you say that strats are crap, there are one of the leading guitars. you dont know what you are talking about. starts might not be for you, but it doesnt mean they are crap.

  • Yeah, sorry. It is just that strats do not suit me at all.

  • yeah, whatever mcnugget. u need mcnugget dippin sauce with ur mcnuggets?

  • Yes please

  • I have. Jags and 'Stangs are...not quite what people make them out to be. Maybe they work for you, but that doesn't mean that Strats in comparison are total crap.

Besides, the Fender P-Bass was also designed by somebody who didn't even play guitar and it's revered by bassists all over.

  • umm isnt jagstang and the stratocaster from the same producer? and btw stratocaster was designed by a guitarist and is the most popular guitar in the world asswhipe

  • jagstang and strat are from the same company and leo fender, the guy who made fender didn't play the guitar....

  • I love the pearloid on the headstock...

  • yeah, thats sick i like that.

  • Kiefer Sutherland everybody!

  • you should have commercials on tv

  • Something else that might help is playing position 5 Cmin pentatonic, position 3 Fmin pentatonic, position 2 Gmin pentatonic. Their all in about the same place on the fretboard. Doing this helps me see the relationship between the notes.

  • thats a sexy strat man...

  • they should have a intro contest, where there members submit 10 to 15 second songs or licks , and then they use them at the intro of there videos to show what there lessons are capable of , then show the guys name and how long hes been playing. just a thought . rock on good people

  • strats are the ultimate guitars they're really versitile for all styles.that's why they have been around so long

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • What is better for blues and rock : strat or tele? Gimme some characteristics please. :)

  • I would reccomend strat if you're going to play rock and blues.

I'm not very experienced with Teles. Although My friend had one, and I know it didn't fit that good for rock - (it may be that specific guitar, and not every telecasters)

However, I have a lot of experince with strats, and I can highly reccomend them.

    Sorry for bad English!

  • id go for a strat being a blues guy i love them. teles have more of a twangy tone to them they are used for mostly country and ive seen them in jazz too. not being a tele guy i dont kno much about them. strats have more of a quack to them, thats the trademark tone, listen to robert cray as an example, but strats can get a range of tones go listen to SRV or eric clapton they have kind of alternate strat tones.

  • same with the les paul which can be used for just about anything though blues is its strong suit

  • I love that Strat :(

  • Hey David make a video of you just rocking out with no track just imrovise!!!

  • LOL at 10:04

    that ooooohh yeah smile ^^

  • nice one

  • david you are a god!!! i have improved so much over this past year thanks to your videos

  • Best lesson so far!!

  • Love all the theory, David. Where did you study?

  • I always thought this guy had no clue what he was talking about, but he proved himself in this video. He knows his stuff.

  • you obviously didn't pay attention then.. He is a great guitarist and one who actually loves to help beginners, he doesn't keep his tricks to himself like a lot of guitarists do.

Rock on, I signed up thanks for the jam tracks :D

  • I know I often don't have a clue what he's talking about but I always got the impression he really did. There's probably just so many NLG videos that you found a couple that aren't as appealing at first before finding one you're interested in. They offer a lot of good lessons, reviews and general pleasantness.

  • Best YT guitar channel...thanks Dave.

  • cool stuff!

  • Hey DT r u playing standard? What size strings?

  • THANKYOU SO MUCH! Man I'v been playing for a while but got to that point where Im not gonna get any better w/ out lessons. Well I cant afford lessons, and I come to you all the time for them. I realy dug your reggae lesson to thx alot brother for teaching. Wish I could pay you some how

  • Excellent lesson David! I would really like more lessons like this for the us intermediate players. Thanks for all the info and awesome vids!

  • Dave, what Strat is that?

  • Hi - the strat I am using in this lesson is a USA made Fender mid 90s custom shop moto strat

    rock on!

    DT

  • Dave, do you have a lesson at your website to learn how to best transition between barre and open chords. I'm finding it quite difficult (I've been practicing open Am to Barre F chord for months).

  • yes, on our site we have detailed lessons and exercises on transitioning from open to bar chords - no problem!

    rock oN!

    DT
