  • That is actually wrong (well outdated, it may have been right when the episode aired). Cheyne-stokes is actually caused by interstitial edema constantly stimulating J-receptors in the lung leading to the central controller in the medulla being over responsive. Large gasps of air on arousal cause CO2 to drop bellow apnea threshold and breathing stops until CO2 rises again.

Any resident would actually know that, its taught during 2nd year of medical school

  • TURK & JD ARE AWESOME!

  • I think It's not that fast. Check out to see the interviews of MUSE. Matthew talks much faster. I mean she just talks relatively fast in this sketch.

  • *mean face* yes...

  • In the words of Kelso, "What is the mechanism of Cheyne-Stokes respiration in systolic dysfunction?"

Elliot Sweetness Replies: Prolongation of circulation time from the lung to the brain, causing diminished sensitivity of the respirator-center to arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide?

It's related to hypocapnia and occult cardiac dysfunction. If anyone out there knows whatta' mean!

    (Future Medic)xx

  • Too bad I managed to understand it.... I heard respetorial debriliation... lol dunno maybe I misheard

  • WTF DID SHE SAY FOR THE LAST ONE?

  • "yes". lol.

  • pwned

  • Lol, cool. :P

  • wow, i'm always amazed at how fast the cast of 'Scrubs' can speak medical terms so fast!! (or even sing them in 'My Musical!'!)

  • Bobo's GAZE when he says "Doctor Reid!" is hilarious XD

  • Prolongation of circulation time from the lung to the brain, causing diminished sensitivity of the respiratorcenter to arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide?

  • Maybe a silly question (cause I'm a silly german;-)):

The disfunction she is talking about is concerned with the way she talks? Is that the point?

  • haha it's okay. I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'll explain everything in case you didn't get it.

Dr. Kelso is competitive with Elliot's father, who's also a Chief of Medicine, and therefore tries to make him look bad by giving Elliot a question that's impossible to answer. If Elliot can't answer it, the father will be ashamed.

However Elliot answered his question with such fluency and precision that it basically made Kelso's plan backfire.

  • Oh also, if you haven't seen this episode before and don't know the context:

Elliot's father (Chief of Medicine at another hospital) comes to visit. When he meets Dr. Kelso, he tells Kelso that this hospital is a piece of trash, causing a competition between the two.

Elliot's father is watching the entire exchange shown in this video, so Kelso tries to discredit the daughter in front of the father, but fails because Elliot's immense knowledge of medicine.

  • Yes, I know all this. But i thought this disfunction (prolongation of circulation time from the lung to the brain...) also could lead to this fast way of speaking, as additional joke. But obviously I'm wrong. Lost in translation... :-)

  • But by the way, good and comprehensible explanation. Thanks a lot!

  • how often do you think the acter of elliot have to say that until she can without a mistake??^^

  • As far as I know, Cheyne-Stokes breathing is an abnormal breathing pattern (rapid breathing, then slow breathing). Also, arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide is really just the level of carbon dioxide in the blood.

  • OH SNAP! [2]

  • ...some of these Elliot talking fast clips sound sped up compared to my DVDs...

  • LOL.

  • Lol how???

  • OOOOOOOOH snap

  • ....yes..

    lol

  • how can she talk that fast!

  • hahaa my friend can do that for a minute and then take a deep breatha nd go on for 2 minutes. its quite annoying if you ask.

  • haha he got owned :) look at his face xD

  • owned!

  • holy crap :)

    that was fast!

  • I understood "carbon dioxide" and that was about it...does she get paid extra for being able to 'talk' like that?

  • It's not really that fast. Prolongation of circulation time from the lungs to the brain causing diminished sensitivity of the respiratory center to (something...alter? arterio?) partial pressure of carbon dioxide?

The average policy debater goes at least that fast.

  • lol true, and compared to the average policy debater, this make more sense :)

  • Arterial. As in arteries. :)

  • artirial i think - 2 do with the arteries? XD

  • >>>>>>>>>"It's not really that fast."

You're dead wrong, dumbass. It IS really that fast, you frickin moron! You must've been stoned when you posted this.

    >>>>>>>"The average policy debater goes at least that fast."

Bullshit! That's exactly the speed that the best policy debaters go by.

  • all i have to say is...HOOLLYY CRAPPP!!

  • hahah owned.

  • great video

    msg me back hR

  • not as fast as other stuff shes said

  • ...yes.

  • LOL

I am loving that very wholesome 'Yes' XD

    Gotta <3 Kelso

  • its not that fast. but still scrubs owns

  • >>>>>>>"its not that fast."

Yes it is, mofo! You obviously weren't thinking clearly when you watched this. Yet another poor loser whose username suits him.

  • "the probligation of circulation time from the lungs to the brain causing diminished sensitivity of the respitory center to our terial partial pressure of carbon dioxide?" (at leest it sounded like that XD)

  • its not 'our terial', jackass, its 'arterial'

  • i told you i herd it weerd!! idiot..

  • dude, ur the jackass. he said it sounded liek that -.- dumbass

  • Prolongation.

  • More prolongation -.-"!

  • The real questions are:

was what she said actually true

and: Does any one know what she said the second time?

  • YES!

  • scrubs spelled backwards is sburcs

remove the s from the front

    switch the u & the r

bring the c to the front

put the b second to the last

and add an s to the front and it spells

    scrubs......

...im sorry i waisted your time

  • you mean wasted

  • wow you must have a lot of time on your hands but guess what? scrubs spelled backwards is sburcs and if you spell that backwards is is scrubs! go figure!

  • woah! u get the darwin award for like, most obvious thing of the what, milennium?

  • Was there a point to that?

  • @dawudaomar are you a wizard?

  • @dawudaomar

    HAHAHA XD

    GENIUS.

  • @dawudaomar

    that is awesome =D

change it bakwards then do it again and it spells awesome =D

  • @dawudaomar u just wanted thumbs up..

  • funny

  • "... Yes."

  • love scrubs, but what's with her in this?

  • I think this is where Kelso didn't think she should be a doctor so he keep bothering her.

  • she's trying to prove herself to her dad. he's in the next scene and he winks to her

  • so what

  • i wouldn't say its fast, you guys just dont understand it. On scrubs they just say things for the sake of saying them because they have many syllables

  • exactly - however to those who are not in the medical field, it's more humorous to hear it this way

  • point taken lol. To me it just sounds like normal speech. Scrubs rules wooo

  • >>>>>>>>"i wouldn't say its fast"

Because you're a fricken idiot! You've been severely hit on the head too many times before you commented about this video. She's definitely talking fast as heck here.

  • hahaht hats great ahh i love scrubs! ^^

  • lol

  • lol

  • HOT AND SMART THE TODD LIKES WHATS SUP
