"Two possibilities exist: Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying."
This quote said it all in my mind. He was a SciFi visionary who will be read and remembered long after his passing.
There are not many authors who had his vision of the future. He will be missed, but I hope that someone out there is able to put their thoughts down and get them published as he did.
I didn't realize he was born in the same year as JFK. I think that is fitting that he was of that same generation, a generation which wasn't afraid of pushing forward and exploring. We need that same spirit today; sadly, it's lacking among the general populace.
Suxh a travesity that we didn't have an opportunity to explore ALL he knew. Men such as Arthur always pass from this life too soon.A visionary of this time and times past and future. We will miss the feeling of security your soul brought to those of us who will always believe that we are not alone and those of you that could enlighten us are here when we lie our heads on our pillows everynight. I for one felt safer with you here as there but pray you can help us here from there. God Rest.
I have to say, I've never seen someone so respected, even on these tribute videos. Someone usually manages to say something tasteless or slanderous about the deceased person. But I've gone through about ten Arthur C. Clarke ones, and they have all been beautiful and sincere comments in appreciation for the man. And if there was ever anyone to deserve total and utter respect and love, it was Arthur.
Sir Arthur was a real class act. I wrote him twice as a youth and both times he answered my letters by hand and I now have both framed in my library. Sir Arthur I hope the monolith is full of stars and you spend all eternity exploring them. Please send us a sign of hope in the near future. If anyone will be able to figure out how it will be you.
I recieved an email directly from the great man. He jelled my scientific interest and curiosity. His film collabaration with Stanley Kubrick is the greatest film ever made. Farewell dear Sir Arthur, it pains me to write these words.
I concur. I didn't read any of his books but I've seen the film version of 2001. I'm man enough to admit I'm inspired and moved by this tribute and I nearly cried, too.
