i'm not a big fan of the taylor sound, but i'm extremely impressed with his contributions to luthierie. he has a great engineering mind that made guitar building a more efficient process.
I just bought a taylor and let me tell you it sounds amazing and feels great!! But in my opinion i dont think there is a big diffrence in a $1000 taylor like the 200 series and a $3000+ taylor. I tried the more expensive taylor guitar and compared it to the 214 and loved the 214 much better

I gave serious consideration to purchasing one, but found out the battery is INSIDE the guitar and is difficult to get at. Also, they make the lower end models in Mexico. I wish companies would make ALL thier products in the US and not put their name on lower end models.
I'm sick of watching these videos and seeing comments like "this could never beat one old man making a guitar in his workshop" and "where's the love?". If that's how guitars were made, none of us would own them, because they'd cost $5000+ a piece. Stop romanticising the making of guitar. Just appreciate they they're made. YOU can love them all you like. Don't expect the manufacturer to rub and carress every single guitar that comes off the production line.
@TheHippoPuff Nope it shouldn't be. Depends if like it gets damaged on the shipping but if you buy one and its messed up I'm pretty sure you can call and they'll return/exchange.
it is very easy to judge, work by a factory, by watching a video on youtube or walking on a tour through the facility but until you are put in the position of the luthiers at taylor guitars then none of you know what truly is done to these awesome instruments on a day to day basis. yes this company is well funded and can afford top of the line equipment, but these are real people doing real, quality work. Everything in your life is manufactured. Doesnt mean these guitars don't kick ass though
Kinda bothers me to pay that much money for a guitar built by machines. Having worked in automation, there are variables (+/-) that MUST exist in this environment. Truth is that you can buy a handmade guitar, working personally, one on one with a luthier for the same price as Taylor's top models. Taylors are super nice guitars, but it's still a manufactured guitar.
@macaroon331 I am not sure you understood the comment about variables. In automation, they are looking to make a product within plus or minus a certain degree. So if a neck joint is supposed to be, say 0.50 inches wide, they will allow for the joint to be anywhere between 0.45 and 0.55 because that is the way a machine will run. If it was anymore precise, there would be no value in the machine because it would not run quickly and thus not be worth the money.
@Firebird3509576 Yes, but the point is that the variable tolerance is controlled, (and can be reduced dependent on budget). The same thing happens when guitars are built by hand, as no human, (or machine) is ever going to be perfect. Very good hand made guitars will have very small tolerance due to the skill of the luthier, but machines can also achieve similar results. Maybe good hand built guitars always sound better for some reason, I don't know as I have never been able to play one! ;-)
@macaroon331 I have spent much time in my friend's shop. He hand makes guitars. Though he is nowhere near the skill level of say a Mark Blanchard or a Julius Borges, I can unbiasedly say that his guitars sound, play, feel, look, better than production guitars because of the care put into them. Her is how it works at a manufacturing facility. The "builder" gets a pile of tops wood and a pile of braces and glues the braces onto the top with no care for the stiffness or tone of the top (continued)
@macaroon331 The art of "tap tuning" a top is lost in manufacturing. Guitars are intentionally "overbuilt" to reduce warranty claims. Manufactured guitars are about one thing... Money. On the other hand, a handmade luthier will take a piece of say Spruce or Cedar and listen to it, feel the way it bends. Then he will begin to brace it and listen as he goes and change the thickness or scallop the bracing differently in accordance with the tone the top creates as the bracing is applied (continued)
@macaroon331 If you get a chance to play a handmade guitar, just feel the weight of them compared to a manufactured guitar. Handmade guitars are very light because the luthier is trying to strike a balance between making a guitar as resonant as possible while still making it strong. Like I said, manufactured guitars are just trying to make a consistent product with less warranty claims. Try to get you hands on some handmades and see for yourself. I know you will be impressed.
I was amazed by this video. As a woodworker, I knew that there were unique complications, but I was amazed at the skill of overcoming the obstacles demonstrated. All the best!
the simplicity makes it beautiful if you ask me.

people are retarded. taylor guitars are mostly handmade. they use machines for accuracy. everything else is hand made.

@Firebird3509576 So there are no variables whatsoever when a guitar is made solely by hand?
