This is one the greatest, and most unique games of ALL time. I absolutely love it. Its got the right amount of difficulty, so its not too hard even for the casual gamer. The music is perfect, and shows just how ahead of its time the SNES was with its unbelievable and incredible soundchip.
This classic should be re-released on Virtual Console. If the music in this version is from the PC, then that's strange, because it sounds EXACTLY and identical the SNES version minus maybe 1 or 2 new tracks.
@nintygaming Nope, the Commodore Amiga was king when it comes to audio, Tho it has less channels, the sound quality was much better because it didn't have Sound RAM limitations unlike the SNES (which I think only can 64KB samples), the lost vikings is also on Amiga but that game is not a great example, there are some Amiga VS Snes vids on youtube which (except for pinball fantasies) are all better on Amiga, although in the end is what you prefer :)
This is one of their first games! Also check out Rock n Roll racing which was completely fucking awesome. Btw, the three vikings you see in this game are also in the world of warcraft dungeon: Uldaman ;)
The only puzzler I ever stuck with in my whole life. Because of the music, I just didn't want to turn it off. Sometimes I would just leave it running while I studied.
It's such a pity we won't be seeing Blizzard produce a game like again. They're too deep into their MMO and RTS market to make a puzzle/platformer...but I guess there are lots of platformers being pumped out by other compaines. Stick with what you do well I guess.
I used to bang my head on the desk with some thought levels of this game. Sadly, I played on a 386 with just a buzzer and didn't succeed to make it working with a 486 and a sound blaster 16. Now with Dosbox, maybe I could get back to this classic game...
Ahh The lost vikings one of my all time favorite games, the neat puzzles and smooth action bits along with its dorky humor was an incredible enjoyable mix.
And the music kicks ass especially the opening theme.
I'm amazed at how close the SNES version sounds to the PC version here. Had I not noticed the video or the comments, I would definitely have thought this was the SNES version.
I personally prefer a lot of the Genesis tracks (such as the ship and desert music tracks) to the SNES/PC versions. SNES/PC intro and beginning scene music were superior, however.
The second song being played in this video always reminds of Frank Zappas tune Mudd Club from the You Are What You Is album. The quirky sound and melody line are somewhat similar. Great game btw! Brings back memories from the golden era.
couldn't agree with you more, and something to note, the wacky world of Genesis Lost vikings is similar to the SNES/PC factory music. I might not be first to notice, but hey, something new learned. Lost vikings FTW.
Suddenly I got an impression - doesn't this game look like 'Commandos'? But as a side-scroller.

This had the most bad ass soundtrack to any game I played on the SNES. It's to the credit of Charles Deenen I think.

This game was infinetely superior on the SNES. LOVE this game. Got it for the GBA and it was good but SNES version was way better :D

I remember this game, I remember getting stuck but sticking through a couple levels because of the music.
But the game was too hard for me so I returned it to the video store, but I hate puzzles. I prefer there is the enemy, kill they ass.

Pretty funky. A precursor to the Techno Viking!

The music from the space levels (it kicks in at 1:30) to me is the greatest piece of video games music ever.
Brings back memories.

@DestroyMediocrity Oh yes, that it does. Many memories, in fact. :)

Does anybody else agree agree that sega mega drives 2 version was much better in music?
RetroNote 3 years ago
Hell no. The Mega Drive sound chip is shite compared to the SNES - it's barely better than 8 bit.
JoeMudd123 2 years ago 10
I enjoy alot of retro VGM stuff, but I can't stand the sound of the Genesis.

What sound device is this music playing off of?
KaurTube40 3 years ago
The SNES soundchip.

This could all be sampled into successful hip hop today. . . must investigate. . . .

I could agree...but sadly, hip hop music is garbage today
