Agree with everyone--he's an underrated genius, especially on the piano ... did you notice if you do a youtube search on him you will find more people working to achieve his talent and piano lessons based on his original work ... I saw him in a tiny old movie theater in Richmond a few years back. I'd seen him a few times before, but this was so much better. Very intimate, I was sitting front and center. Genius, yes. Absolute genius.

Also saw him with Jackson Browne once. A dream show, to be sure.

I have seen Bruce play many times in many different settings and this is the first time I have ever seen him become a little emotional based on what he was playing as he wipes his eye at the every end of this clip.

The last couple of minutes of his playing here were beautiful, poetic and moving. It may have been just been an itch on his eye but I like to think it was something more here.

I can't believe how much different Bruce sings the melody line of this song, so much so that Don Henley should be given a credit for the music too, esp. since his version is so much better. Having said that, I think Bruce is terrific.

I'm not sure if genius is too faint praise. Also, I'm not sure he wasn't somehow playing both Danny Boy and End of the Innocence in tandem at the end there. Yes, he moved fluidly (and beautifully) from one to the other, but I think for a moment there he was actually playing both simultaneously. Brilliance, creativity, heart, and a little fun insanity thrown in for good measure - that's what I like about Bruce.

Henley's versions are better-produced, and the musicianship is typically excellent - Henley is, after all, the consummate perfectionist. But "this guy on the piano" wrote the music to the song. Bruce Hornsby's version is clearly from the heart. Both artists' versions ought to be heard.
