Bruce seems in this video to be sort of out of place on the stage, that's not to say that he isnt a master at what he does, but sometimes as a performer you are on the stage in from of people and it gets hard everyday to put on a smile. It looks like he has something on his mind.
We still love your music here in Australia Bruce. Of all the music released in the 80's yours will stay in my mind forever. Some music comes and goes like a storm, classics from real musicians always stand the test of time. Long live Bruce Hornsby and his music.
Agree with everyone--he's an underrated genius, especially on the piano ... did you notice if you do a youtube search on him you will find more people working to achieve his talent and piano lessons based on his original work ... I hope someday he gets recognition ... I've been listening to him for 20 years now and his strong effect on me hasn't aged a bit except to grow stronger!
It was Hornsby's beautiful piano progression that inspired one of Henley's best lyrics. For my money this is one of the best songs we will ever be lucky enough to hear.
I saw him in a tiny old movie theater in Richmond a few years back. I'd seen him a few times before, but this was so much better. Very intimate, I was sitting front and center. Genius, yes. Absolute genius.
Also saw him with Jackson Browne once. A dream show, to be sure.
He is fabulous! His new one "Levitaite" is woth listening to- shows that truly crative peole are nver outdated; they just keeping changing and growing! Thanks for sharing.
only seen bruce about 12 times - from a stadium to a club with about 100 people from about 10 feet away. hands down one of the best live shows to be found anywhere and i see a lot. brilliant. jt thomas is the most gifted organ player ever...
Bruce is a very unique musician...he has his own style of playing piano....I love it...appreciate it. So glad he has his music out there. It feeds my soul!!!! Thanks so much for posting this! Blessings!
I have seen Bruce play many times in many different settings and this is the first time I have ever seen him become a little emotional based on what he was playing as he wipes his eye at the every end of this clip.
The last couple of minutes of his playing here were beautiful, poetic and moving. It may have been just been an itch on his eye but I like to think it was something more here.
I can't believe how much different Bruce sings the melody line of this song, so much so that Don Henley should be given a credit for the music too, esp. since his version is so much better. Having said that, I think Bruce is terrific.
I finally saw Bruce live here in Buffalo last year. He did this song. I knew he would be amazing live but he and his band exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to see him again in August. My favorite artist and an incredible talent.
God, I love you... I will always remember your beautiful eyes while listening to you play. I'm so enriched that you play perpetually; you are so dear to me. I just wish I had known you the day we met. I could put my head right to the back of the piano and just listen forever, and sing with you. Sigh.
I'm not sure if genius is too faint praise. Also, I'm not sure he wasn't somehow playing both Danny Boy and End of the Innocence in tandem at the end there. Yes, he moved fluidly (and beautifully) from one to the other, but I think for a moment there he was actually playing both simultaneously. Brilliance, creativity, heart, and a little fun insanity thrown in for good measure - that's what I like about Bruce.
I've seen him live he is absolutely incredible ... it's a shame this kind of music is dying off radio wise... all this garbage no talent rap is #1 and it's a shame
@wghtsrgltng chill, good music is good music & it's found in all genres of music. yes, a lot of the rap u hear on the music is garbage but there is a lot of soulful rap/hip-hop as well
This song gives me chills .... honestly he is that incredible. It's just a shame that music like this is no longer appreciated world wide as it should be. Radio play now, is nothing short of pathetic.
I know. I used to work at the Musicans Union in Hollywood Ca when I was younger. He would come in and althought it was in the highest spot in his career, he was so humble and sweet. He is so talented.
c'est complètement vrai. j'écoute cet artiste depuis longtemps. personne ou presque sait ce que signifie les mots de son tube "that's just the way it is". Et puis... quel grand pianiste. Slt fayçal
Henley's versions are better-produced, and the musicianship is typically excellent - Henley is, after all, the consummate perfectionist. But "this guy on the piano" wrote the music to the song. Bruce Hornsby's version is clearly from the heart. Both artists' versions ought to be heard.
i know im sorry i m just saying that i like don henley's better because he was what i was brought up on and i heard his version first and then i heard this one and it was jsut different..i know he wrote the music but don henley did write the words.... i think it was a great team work that these two men did..
@zvlove Hornsby loves to change up the way songs are played live, almost to the point of being unrecognizable. Some fans don't like it. He redid Mandolin Rain with Ricky Skaggs in a minor key.
He kind of reminds me of Schroeder, the kid who played the piano in the Peanuts comic strip, especially the way he hunches over the piano like that. That'd be funny if he did a rendition of the Charlie Brown theme. lol
A lot of people only know his music by what they hear on the radio and never appreciate the true virtuoso he is...He is by far one if not the best piano player out there among his other "piano men" counterparts.
does he ever tour i am from northern ireland and would love too go and see him, i cant pick what my favorite bruce horsby song is they are all brilliant
The first time I heard Bruce Hornsby in 1987, I absolutely fell in love with his piano playing...His misty, magical sound is right up there with Elton John. Don Henley new a good thing when he sang this song and put it on the air waves for all to apprieciate...Thanks for sharing a good thing.
this guy is my inspiration on the piano i play his songs all the time and im nothing like him but i really love doing it. He has a serious passion for what he does and thats what it takes to be a good piano player
I completely agree.... it's amazing that Bruce Hornsby can always play a song a hundred million ways and yet it's never the same! Amazing! The best piano player on the planet!
greatest piano-composer-singer in the world by a landslide.best interpreter and at reinventing his own tunes.never sings or plays the same way twice, great imagination great compromise to his story, truly one of my greatest inspiration.
simply one of the best song writers ever...
