  • this shit rocks, johnny would love it

  • Johnny Cash was a wanna be bro. He never went to jail and sang "folsom Prison Blues"...If anything I say poser. I did time , but I'm not trying to say I'm a better musician than Cash, but if I did a song about jail I wouldn't be a wanna be poser !!!!!!!!!!!

  • SOCIAL DISTORTION IS WAY BETTER THAN CASH oh yeah i have a joke we have no cash get because johnny cash is dead

  • John Woulda Dug this big time

  • LET IT BURN MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!

  • just heard this on some commercial, wasn't paying attention to what it was thought, anybody else?

  • @calvinmathers New season of Fear Factor

  • @enfd390 thanks

  • Social d.

  • TWICE!

  • I SAW THEM IN BOISE IDAHO, AND THE FUKIN KILLED IT

  • At the house of blues . Hollywood .

  • go to O.C. & say that.

  • One local band made awesome ska-punk cover on this. Too bad everyone was moshing and didn't record it :( .. Plus all hail to the saxophone man, who was drunk as hell but still played perfect :D

  • Social Distortion is my kind of band.

  • johnny cash co-produced this song on social distortions album, and went on to record social-ds song ball and chain, thats how much Johnny Cash WOuldda hated tis lol.

  • I want that 1 from 97

  • This fuckin kicks ass and so does SD; long live old school punk fuckin' rawk...

  • Heard this on the radio yet again (and for the last time if I can help it), and I just had to come here to tell everyone how bad this is. Congratulations Social D. You've taken a classic song, got rid of everything that was musically interesting about the song in the first place, and placed your signature annoying-as-hell sound onto it. You happy? The good news? It's a little more tolerable than Story of My Life. That's not saying much...

  • @kgunby you old lame fuck tell sumone who cares !

  • @lilJG916 If you take a look at my profile, I'm obviously really old. *SARCASM*

They musically suck. The guy can't sing for shit and it's even worse live. Although, if you're tone deaf and have no discerning ear for music whatsoever, they must sound really great.

  • @kgunby YOU APARRENTLY HAVE NO MUSIC HISTORY CLASS, OR IF YOU DO YOUR TEACHER IS FIRED! OR YOU JUST HATE MUSIC IN GENERAL. NICE COMMENT, I HOPE YOU MOW LAWNS! IN ARIZONA!

  • @MrPOPSZILLA

What the hell does music history class have anything to do with the guy being a shitty vocalist??? Too bad there's not a class for common sense because you really fucking need one.

Whatever. I have much better ways to spend my time than listening to social distortion or arguing with idiots that love them.

  • ok and i just wasted some of my life

  • Johnny Cash wwoooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • johnny would of took a shot a cocaine and shot those bitches down

  • Comment removed

  • This is the best Cash cover I've heard.

  • fuck 146 people with a wooden splintered fork

  • FLAMES

  • lol my teacher said this band is bad ass

  • Who saw them on rockwerchter?

  • cant belive a pinchi guero and his band pay a great homage to a legend

  • @TheNegro0607

uhhhh, what is a "pinchi guero"? why can't you believe it and why did it take you so long to drop in on Social Distortion?

  • @USA1749NY2SFnSD2Fork a "pinche guero" is something like "an fn blonde"

  • Get it right. This is purely a tribute song to JC

  • This is a brilliant take on Ring of Fire.

  • its very rare that i like a cover by anyone, even the beatles my favorite band but this one is good

  • this is not a good version of ring of fire

  • This is the way Cash-songs should be played!

  • wow he sucks

  • sau geil das die das bei rock am ring gespielt haben :)

  • Why does the beginning of this sound like part of Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day? xD

  • @PolySplash cause green day are theifs

  • @PolySplash Green Day fucking sucks

  • @fabsthevamp Jesus. calm down.

  • @fabsthevamp fuck u green day is awesome u have no right to say he sucks cuz u cant make music bitch!

  • Let it burn, motherfucker!

  • o yeh not to mention people who dont know johnny cash but social distortion or vice versa get introduced to something new they might like damn i hate naysayers

  • its sad people got to criticize im assuming jealousy but hell they are listening to it lol

  • my god, a group of gods doing a song written by a god..... this is fucking awesome!

  • SD stands for suck dick!

  • AND IT BURNS MOTHA FUCKA

  • Comment removed

  • Great song, great band, but he looks like Adam Sandler in 15 years XD

  • This is amazing! I wouldnt be able to mosh to Johnny Cash's version! Even though it was still great

  • These guys really did Johnny Justice and in my opinion this is the only version that can even come close to Johnny's.

  • @GhostDistortion They didnt do Johnny Justice, they did Anita Carter Justice, since she sang it first!

  • @Rcksaltnnails But they weren't inspired by any version but Johnny Cash's version.

  • @GhostDistortion Still isnt the point. Same with Elivs. Everyone gives credit to Bill Monroe for inspiring Elvis to record Blue Moon Of Kentucky, because Elvis was a fan of Monroe's. The fact remains that Elvis didnt record his version till he heard Carter and Ralph Stanley record it in a Rockabilly way, the way Elvis did it. Yet, credit is given to the ORIGINAL artist, as it should be. That is why they did Anita justice, and not Johnny!

  • @Rcksaltnnails Whatever dude.

  • i have a friend who thought this was the original. surprising considering he was at least somewhat of a cash fan as well. great cover though.

  • Nice!

  • ring of fire

  • IMHO, I personally feel that Johnny didn't really say that this song was a great cover, but I'll bet that he gave approvals to do the cover and that the PR reps blew that approval way out of proportion. Big difference between approving something and endorsing it. I don't care for this cover, but I appreciate the ability of the group to perform it.

  • @jseelig4330 Why wouldn't he like it? Keep in mind, Cash is a guy who covered NIN in his final years. He wasn't a music snob, or bound simply to Country. He loved good, powerful, emotional music, whoever it's done by. I have no doubt that he enjoyed this cover.

  • This is an awesome tribute to JC!! Thank you!!

  • The intro sounds just the same as some Greenday breakdown, was it in Jesus of Suburbia?

  • @nonedisponibile1 dude this song came out when green day was just beginning

  • @nonedisponibile1 You're kidding right...you're not really asking that are you? ://

  • @Iamphenomenalaj I was trolling, but it seems like I'm not very good :(

  • @nonedisponibile1 Ohhh okay lol :P

  • @serenityvalley obviously your not a music person. A real music person will appreciate all music. Find ways to enjoy it. When it comes to music there is no such thing as noise. Music expresses that which cannot be said. It's an art. Everyone does it differently. Like the great painters. They had there own styles.

  • Just discovered this band...totaly some serious power sauce.

  • i love both of the versions

  • Any KROQ recordings from that year sound like crap, because it was a poor quality webcast.

I've seen these guys two times in one week 2 years ago and they blew me away at a festival and at the club show they did.

Gonna see them again this year and know that I won't be dissapointed, I see these guys as legends. There isn't one band in the world that can compare to these guys these days anyway.

Johnny Cash even loved this cover, he stated that a few times.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome cover! Saw them a few days ago, they blew me away! Legends.

  • Oh, god this is bad. It's like watching a middle school band play a Beetles song...

  • @SerenityValleyVFR

    ever seen them live

if johnny would be alive today hed be smilling with this song

    this issent a cover

this is johnny's song played in a social distortions way

    and just for the record

if you want to state a legendary band try writing the correct name !

  • @fromeindert If this is what they sound like then I don't think I'd want to hear them live. I'm a music lover. This is just noise.

  • @SerenityValleyVFR

everybody has his the right to love their own style off music

this is my music and your noise

your music is my noise ;)

  • @fromeindert

I like all music other than this and bad middle school bands that play Beatles music after 2 weeks of learning their instruments. Maybe their parents enjoy that crap -but it's not music.

I don't like noise. It hurts my ears.

I suppose you like lady vagagamaga too?

  • @fromeindert Not a cover? So, what is it then? They didn't fucking write it. IT IS a cover.

  • "I fell into a burning ring of fiya' ", heh, Mike's awesome.

  • I went to their concert last night and they sang this it was amazing!!!! and so were all the other songs

  • perfect song, perfect band this cover is just perfect!

  • its the metal version of Ring of Fire

  • @robtehKILLER metal social distortion aint metal its punk i think both social distortion and me would be pretty pissed

  • @robtehKILLER punk*

  • Jessicanus21, i see you havent nothing better to do, than correct lexical errors. enjoy it :-D

  • @Xka0 tbh jony clash is very different to johnny cash

  • The man in black loved their cover. Shame Cash's family didnt let Mike preform at the wake like he requested

  • nowhere as good as the original

  • yeah, every time i've seen SD the crowd goes crazy when they play this.

  • was he on heroin here? he looks pinned

  • @swantonkincaid no, hes been clean for like 20yrs or so.

  • I hate Sony. No official SD Video's available on Utube Germany!

  • Johnny Cash loved this cover of his song.

  • @iamterber Yeah, because Johnny Cash was a lot cooler than a lot of the dorks who want to pretend they were his fans now that he's dead. Cash loved this sort of shit.

  • @fakedick yeah johnnys turning in his grave-rip

  • @fakedick Cash would have loved this performance. Maybe you don't remember the grief he took for the guests he had on his TV show, or being asked not to return to the Opry after taking out 52 stage lights.

  • I feel if, as a band, you are covering another artists song, you should strive to do it your own way. Not try to mimick the original version.

As a listener, I would rather hear a different version of the song. If I wanted to hear the original version, I would go listen to it, not someone else doing it exactly to same.

  • @droostanard Dude, I couldn't have said this better myself. You're so right. Why would anyone want a cover to sound just like the original? If the cover sounded the same, why not just listen to the original? Covering artists have to take SOME artistic license with covers.

On a related note, Social D KILLED this cover. I mean, it's just so...FUCKING GOOD! The fact that Johnny Cash, himself, liked their cover should make a huge statement to their talent.

  • @300Z31 Could not have said it better. The fact that Cash changed his version so much from the original is proof that an artist should do a cover their own way. Gave you a thimbs up!

  • I've been a Social D fan for more than 20 years, and a Johnny Cash fan even longer; it kills me to hear so-called Cash fans slam Mike and the guys for 'ruining' Ring of Fire. Mr. Cash himself (pretty good endorsement) stated more than once that he liked SD's version of his song...does any opposing opinion really have merit?

  • @bobbyd2677 ... if you get the original praising the cover, you've done the original proper justice. get Mr. Cash on your good side, and life is well. ((thumbs up))

  • @bobbyd2677 I totally agree with you Bobby. I believe Johnny Cash was proud to hear what they did with his song. Thanks for your post.

  • @bobbyd2677 The answer is no.

  • @bobbyd2677 nope, people are haters.

  • @bobbyd2677 I agree. Bands don't cover songs they don't like, so if SD covered Ring of Fire they're obviously fans of the song. It's like saying Johnny Cash ruined "Hurt" when he covered it. That's ridiculous. It's a fan's take on a good song. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Trolling around complaining about it is gay. I like both the JC version of this song and the SD version, and for different reasons. Be thankful that there are bands out there who want to pay tribute to JC.

  • @bobbyd2677 Fuck all u haters! In my 34 years on this earth I've grown up listening to the Cash and the D.... I never thought anybody could improve on a Cash song until I heard this cover. I wish I had 2 more hands so I could give it 4 thumbs up. ;-)>

  • @paultwright77 ....this is an improvement on a classic Cash song? You've gotta be fucking kidding me....... Don't insult Johnny Cash like that. I don't care how long you've been on this earth. Don't do it.

  • @bobbyd2677 In my 34 years on this earth I have grown up listening to the Cash and the D. Never thought that anybody could improve on a Cash song until I heard this cover... I wish I had 2 more hands so I could give it 4 thumbs up.

  • @bobbyd2677

Johnny was around when they made the song?

  • @Darksky1001able this cover came out 1990. J.R Cash died 2003 so yeah.

  • @bobbyd2677 Wait, what, hunh? This is a ruin? Maybe like the Parthenon.

  • @bobbyd2677

    No

  • @bobbyd2677 who the fuck would bash this cover it's awsome

  • How anyone can say Social D and/or Mike Ness isn't awesome I'll never know.

  • I'll say it. If you said Social D or CASH sucks, your wrong, your just wrong. Your retarded and have zero taste in music. take yourself outta the gene pool. the world needs people like you like it needs Justin Beiber. Seriously. We've all voted, kill yourself.

  • Religion comes into everything

  • @LeslieRichardGrove

I mean the point of a cover is to do their variation of a song, he doesn't need to sound exactly like Cash to make it a good cover.

  • @riemoj I understand that. Hell, Jack White released a Cash cover not to long ago that sounds nothing like the original and KICKS ASS. That's because time and thought was put into the cover. He had such admiration for the source material that he made sure to keep the "soul" of the song if you will, and simply make it his own, and improve upon certain parts of the song. THIS on the other hand, is ring of fire with distortion, and a singer who can't sing like Cash. This is garbage.

  • @LeslieRichardGrove Open your mind. If you understood music you would understand this cover. SD did not "butcher" this song. They did their best to pay tribute. Guess what? It does not sound like Johnny Cash. Guess Why? This is not Johnny Cash. This is just a band that respects Johnny Cash & is doing their best 2 pay homage. Stop with the hate. U can always not listen.

  • @LeslieRichardGrove Hilarious--This was the final closing song to the encore last night and the Fillmore went Fecking Beeeeeeezerk! Hotter than an open header pipe on a Chevy big-block. So 1500 of us missed the point as well..................no.

    G'wan now Git!

  • Social D baby!!!!!

  • I bet if the Man in Black himself saw this, he'd go to every SxDx concert and thank them personally each time. Amazing!

  • saw them in quebec before billy talent this summer...you shouldve seen the crowd when they played this song....it was crazy!!!

  • BTW 'Ring of Fire ' was originally a american folk song. Cash-a-holic did not write it. jfyi

  • @theLightHouseLady24

Cash didn't originally write it, but it wasn't an American folk song either. It was actually co-written by Johnny's wife June Carter and Merle Kilgore. The first version of it was recorded by June's sister, Anita Carter. Johnny recorded it about five months later, and he married June four years later.

  • @Kellerwerks Im sorry... but it was an american folk song. do the research.

thats how june's sister came upon it

  • @Kellerwerks june wrote it

  • Yes Yes Yes This is much better than that Coldplay garbage

  • @fop221 Without a doubt, I'm scottish and you should seek out swamptrash , scottish band from the eighties. Its more bluegrassy but give it a try. not spam , the singers dead.

  • going to see these guys in november. somebody pinch me. best band ever.

  • A lot of musictians seem so outta touch these days.

  • @theLightHouseLady24

    Fuck YOU

    Cash was great...

  • @zuckerschnegge1000

oh my. my opinion. Yet a 'Fuck You'

    ?

I should have expected that from a 'Cash' fan'.

grow up. Dont get ur 'panties' in a bunch but I feel SD did a much better rendition. the fact that I detest country music might have something 2 do with it.

    end

  • @theLightHouseLady24 How idiotic! A band usually covers a song because they admire the work of the original artist. I hate country, but JC transcends the genre. He was a genius which is WHY they covered the song! Social D does a good job but "Cash sucks" makes you look like a moron.

  • @970162cango hey cango, my opinion. I dont like

country too...possibly my aversion. There have been many that have done MUCH better renditions than the original. I feel this is one. end

  • @theLightHouseLady24 My opinion - you're a troll. End.

  • Comment removed

  • @970162cango

Look I came here as many do, to enjoy music...and these 'boards'are for

    stating

opinion/comments. Thats what I did. I think you are the troll.

again it was adapted from a folk song.

  • @theLightHouseLady24 Look, I made one comment about you trashing Johnny Cash - the rest of this dialogue (incl the comment you removed) is between you and some unknown phantom. I never disputed your "folk song" theory and called you a troll only after reading all the other ridiculous comments you posted to others. You seem to have any excessive amount of time on your hands. Social D's rendition of Fire is just NOT that important. Now fuck off and stop wasting my time.

  • @970162cango Oh my such a loooong reply. talk about 'excessive time" Hmmm. There was no 'trashing' of Cash. not by me. only my opinion

When I'm told 2 F myself, or that my opinions are 'wrong'...damn right I will respond. Ridiculous. End

  • @theLightHouseLady24 OK, genius, "Cash Sucks" is a compliment!?! "I think Cash sucks" is an opinion. "Cash sucks" is a statement. Take responsibility for what you said. And, I never said your "opinion" was "wrong". Artists normally cover what they admire and it's Cashs' version of this song that inspires so many to cover it - not some obscure folk version. And what's up with this "End" shit? We'll know you're done when you shut the fuck up. EEEENNNNDDDD!!!!

  • @970162cango I enjoy we got such a rise out of you. no,

an opinion, not statement. Responsibility? Its the FREAkin internet , loser.. now calm down, coward

  • that sucked

  • Awesome cover! You can't beat the Johnny Cash version though. With the trumpets and stuff. It's like iconic

  • R.I.P. Johnny Cash.

  • Cool song!!

  • Every time I hear this song, i want to grab my guitar and rock!

  • Good tribute to an original punk

  • I like the orginal but this is a good cover.

  • he looks like a older Jessie James from monster garage

  • Does anybody know where this version if from? venue date?

    this RULES!!!!!!!!!!!

    (help please!

  • i've said it before and i'll say it again it's really f-up'd how rock and rap act give more respect to legends of country than the country acts do.

  • @cappsoutlaw- haha I just noticed that! But to be fair, mike ness, the singer of social distortion has done a lot of exclusively country music lately. So he's also a country musician.

  • @cappsoutlaw it's sad but a damn good point.

  • this is a good cover but the singer is starting to show his age...he was good 20 years ago

  • Johnny's version kills this, but nice attempt.

  • i do't rllz like this particulair song, but they are a gr8 band and i think that thier singer is very good, n also fz u h8erz look at loads of uder pnk bands, i mean none of the sexpistols were good singers or good musicians n neither were the misfits, in fact look at loads of bands like refused, ghost of a thousand, the exploited, bad brains and cancer bats, they all have not very good singers by musical standards, but they are gd because of thier character, thier agression and thier whole vibe

  • mike ness IS a great singer. just because you don't like one of his performances doesn't mean he sucks! PFFF. plus, he's "old" and who knows, maybe this was one of the last songs he played in this concert. if you dont kno just shut up
