  • Man, I sure dig Hound Dog; He could rock the blues with the best of'em! I oughta know I saw him a lot in Chicago at Florences, The ExpressWay, & Big Dukes, The Checkerboard too.!

  • i would kill to have these festivals back.

    A2 needs it.

  • way way ahead of his time,, awesome stuff,, !!!

  • its so good it makes me cry

  • PERFECT.

  • Goddamn you Hound!!! Play that shit!!!! Let em' know who the Hound Dog is!!!!

  • my lord what kind of gui-tar is that???

  • @PersistenceMusic

    Pretty sure it's a Teisco Del-Rey

  • did taylor play with the slide on his sixth finger or his pinky? someone said he did on his sixth but ive seen pictures of it and its jsut a little runt of a finger

  • @gageman70 There are photos that show clearly that Hound Dog played with the slide on his fifth finger--not the vestigial sixth. You can see it clearly on the photos on "Beware of the Dog"--at least on the LP version.

  • wow....

  • what kind of guitar is that??

  • Absolute GOLD.

  • pure raw blues at it's best. Thanks for posting

  • Anybody have Hound Dog doing It's My own Fault?

  • @joetaska Maybe you can write a mail to Alligator Records in Chicago U.S.A.

that was the Rec Comp of Hound Dog

  • @bobobekker Yes sir I have the record from Alligator but was just wondering if anyone had put it up on youtube!! Maybe it's time I learned how to start doing this!! Thanks!!

  • I rode with Hound Dog & His Sister Lucy to this Ann Arbor Gig.....He sure was

soundin' good that day. If I remember right musician Doctor Ross was on the side of the stage dancing away. By the way before they got with Alligator Records Hound

Dog, Brewer & Ted used to call themselves Hound Dog Taylor & The Bluerockers

  • WHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is fantastic!

  • Sounds like electric slide shoud sound!

Thanks for sharing this rare footage.

  • Great stuff even if he's sharp. Probably couldn't hear the other guitar.

  • found another clip of hound dog taylor. not too good but its still hdt.

  • this guy kicks my ass every time. what a big shame hes gone. and live. wow

  • amazing as it is, but i cant help but say that this would be perfect if they woulda got big w on the harp

  • i love this blues sooooongs *-* nice work 5 stars

  • gotta get me a shot of bourbon after this.

fist time i take a listen to Hound Dog Taylor. pretty intense.

  • Howlin' the blues!!!

  • Anyone who plays like this can never die.

  • Nobody played like the Dog! They just don't make bluesmen like that anymore. RIP Hound Dog. You'll live forever in your music.

  • WOOF!!

  • It just gets better and better nearer the end...if nothing happens to me..i'll be with you babe..next year..haha nice:-)

    Great Blues!

  • This song gets better everytime I listen to it......:-)

  • YYYYYYYEAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!

  • Yes,- this is priceless.

  • Man! The Dog just knocks my socks off. I used to see him all the time at Florences and the funny thing was I never thought that much of him back then. I see a lotta guys go around now saying they play BLUES, but they can't hold a candle to this man. I miss the Dog.

  • ..Sorry Bopalena,meant no offence...

...IT was just a term I used a long time

...ago, IT was a long time ago...When I was young and dumb...Ha Ha, .......

  • This is priceless, were in the hell did you find this video?

  • I was searching for som music of Hound Dog at DC++(peer to peer) and there it was, some clips of the Dog, just got lucky I guess

  • @schmorre thanks for posting man, classic!

  • HE'S THE MAN !!!

  • hound dog the man that made me want to play guitar long live hound dog check out my channel for more good stuff

  • Thank you so much for this video. Way too little of his work was recorded. He was dead within two years of this video...what a huge loss. Footage poor? No way, man. It is one of the most beautiful things on Youtube.

  • Hey hey HEYYYYY at 45 secs ;-)

  • this little man had a huge soul...

  • A lot of living in those words....awesome

  • Everybody know de Hound.

  • This shit sounds so good I'm cryin. Hound Dog you're beautiful.

  • He had six fingers on his left and 5 on his right, after chopping the 6th of one night on stage with his razor. It was getting in his way.

  • Don't forget, the dog wears that slide on his sixth finger when he plays. The video quality doesn't show it well, but Hound Dog Taylor had six fingers on each hand...'

  • Hound dog was the baddest motherf%#ker in chicago since al capone.

  • WELL I honestly don't consider myself a blues expert at all but I play guitar and I'm nuts about blues period ! And I have yet to hear anyone from the DOG'S era that got a sound close to what this man did with that ???? umm "GUITAR" ! I have listen to these songs over and over and never get tired of hearing the" Dog" . It almost sound like his guitar is begging for MERCY !. Incredible !

  • Hound Dog Taylor is nothing but a party. Wow! What a sound - like Elmore James on Sterno. This is dangerous music as it borders falling into utter chaos. He plays at blistering speed, sometimes out of sync with his drummer and base line but they manage to pull it off. And he does it playing cheap off the shelf Japanese guitars and Sears amps. There are more virtuoso blues players but no one matches his infectious spirit and enthusiasm.

  • Is it true he had 6 fingers?

  • jeremy spencer also does a great version

  • I have been listening to Elmo and the Boys. This Guy is the most Low-Down of all. Turned on to the Blues in 1961. Heard Hound Dog after he died, inearly in 1980.This was a poor boy with a Pond Shop Guitar. Never cut any records till 70s. One to be remembered. Leo

  • this is actually an elmore james song, go listen to him and you can really hear where a lot of blues guys got some influence

  • I saw movingHound Dog Tayler,first time.

    Very impressive! And weeping.

  • Omg! Ma top ten has changed! Love how he handles his guitar! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

  • Never seen this absolute genious till today, gotta love utube! This man is FANTASTIC! How come...???

  • Its such a shame that the Dog doesn't get the credit he deserves from the music industry. His influence is/was staggering. You can hear shades of the Dog's dirty blues slide in so many musicians that are/were more "commerically viable" like Page, Vaughn, Thorogood, Duane Allman, etc. Such a shame that legends like this are never appreciated until after they are gone.

  • @cgraber Hound Dog was appreciated by all of us who saw him when he was aliveI I miss him, RIP Hound Dog Taylor

  • Aaaah Houndog I miss ya buddy :) You made the blues fun and good Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay for the Houndog :)

  • Hound Dog and Brewer used to come to the University of Illinois Urbana campus fairly often during the late 60s. They could rock the house better than anyone else. I love to dance, and they could make Laura from Aurora and me cut a rug. Thanks for the memories!

  • This is the real thing.

God bless Hound Dog and the Maxwell Street blues players.

    Amen.

  • there is nothin like this dirty old blues sound. It is raw and gutsy..the 3ay it is meant to be !

  • I just love this sound, It's WILD!

  • Hound Dog is da bomb. Thanks for posting.

  • I was at this concert. All those old blues players were laying down the soundtrack of my soul in the background, but at 18 I had no appreciation for the blues like I do today, and had no idea of the musical history I was experiencing. Thanks, Schmorre, now I know what I was "missing." Do you have any video from Goose Lake Aug, 1970?

  • Sorry, I only have the clips from Ann Arbor.

    /schmorre

  • lets hear it for hound dog !

  • talk about slide!

  • Do you realize how much Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top models his slide playing after Hound Dog Taylor.

    The amp tone is burnin'!

It sounds like the amp is about to catch on FIRE!

    GNARLY!

  • Blues like showers of rain. Look at the tears roll down the street.

  • Back to the roots . ;-)

  • I just want to thank everyone that puts video's like this up.

This is what music was,is,and will always be.

Kids put down your guitar Hero and pick up the real thing!

  • i'm wit ya jim 1068...this the dirtiest pure sound of life...hound dog and a chair over a sofa and video game anytime!!!

  • Well said, Jim1068.

  • Hound Dog Taylor is a natural blues man.

You can tell that he loved to do what he did the way he did it!

I saw him do this great stuff up In Ann Arbor in the early 70's. He made me feel good than and he makes me feel good now!

I hope I get to see him do some more up in heaven too.

  • The guitar sound on this is SO f'ing BAD AXE.

  • This guy is unreal. Check out the Black Keys.

  • Unreal. Hound Dog is the truth.

  • I sure agree, BLUES at it's BEST !!

  • true music with feeling! Feeling that only a man who is treated like a second class citizen can feel! All he has is his woman!

  • any idea what guitar he's playing? I know he used teisco del rays but would this be virtually impossible to track down. really interested in the pickup switches.

  • Yes, this is the king of blues, see you in heaven Hound Dog Taylor.

  • HOUND DOG IS THE MAN! Clapton aint shit, and It may be out of tune but it is not off beat!!!! That funky mess is IN THE GROOVE. THIS IS THE BLUES, REPRESENT!!

  • Rock me baby version Lightnin and Hound dog Bravooh

  • ah man that guitar is nasty.. old 60's japanese teisco del rey... cheap as chips back in the day.. gettin very popular now though... what a tone!

  • Or lack of tone. Regardless: It's off tune, offbeat and still one of the best recorded blues artist ever. On tune, and on beat blues (aka. Clapton) is as boring as music can be.

Blues is low down and dirty, not a skill contest.

  • damn right... but id say that guitar has more tone than a lot of new gibsons, fenders and what have ya.. its just pure down home to the bone leave me alone and let me moan tone!

  • Those teisco guitars have so much character.

  • i have one, and I find myself preferring it more and more as days go by, so raw sounding, overdrives like none other

  • Awesome, so the pickups overdrive themselves?

  • I've heard so many versions of this song through the years but the way HDT plays it on the alligator album ..well I have no words for it.. still it's the best version I've ever heard. It belongs to him.

  • black-man blues= true music.

  • calm down you pc douche

  • How is that racist at all? Blacks were persecuted a lot back then. They sang the blues because a lot of them had to live putting up with a lot of bullshit. Their music was full of soul hence the statement "true music". That's not racist to say at all.

  • I love that song!

Hound Dog Taylor and John Lee Hooker are my heros!

  • OOOOHHH!

The ultimate blues-test. No Hound Dawg, no Chester C. Burnett = no blues in your heart!

Clapton & Moore have never ever been close to these guys! Eat your minor hearts out.

  • @JacKass00001: Chester "Arthur" Burnett : AKA

"Howlin' Wolf". Nót Chester "C" Burnett but even: Chester A. Burnett !!

  • I held my guitar last night, til everything was ALL-RIGHT!....yeah!

  • Hey you should have let someone else do it! Ha!

  • Don't blind yourself sure shot!

  • The TONE!!! MY GOD!!! This is so good I want to cry. Thanks for posting this. This man is responsible for me wanting to play slide :)

  • Yeahhhhhhh Watch/Listen Sonny landreth's performance of the version:"Taylors Rock"! Its Superbe!! Go To In MY PlayList or watch in My Profile!

  • I picked up Release the Hound by accident, and im soo glad i did.

I love listening to the Dog, you really feel it

  • My HERO!!!

  • This man could play a mean old crawdaddy slippery gittar and rip his guts out like no other! Love The Hound! Thanks for this!

  • Eric Clapton isn't fit to call himself blues.. he isn;t fit to lick this mans shoes clean.. none of em are..

  • Been a fan of the dog since my early teens.Just gotta love his playing.

  • In my ears: a mixture of Elmore & J.B.Hutto with this Elmore writing. Hound Dog's voice is near to that of Elmore.

Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor, Born: Apr.12/1917 Natchez MS, Died: Dec.17/1975 chiago IL.

Influenced by: Elmore James, Sam "lightning" Hopkins & Sonny Boy Williamson #2 (Aleck Miller).

  • Yeahhhhhhh Watch/Listen Sonny landreth's performance of the version:"Taylors Rock"! Its Superbe!! Go To In MY PlayList or watch in My Profile
