Being a father,I cry every time I watch this great movie. So many biblical lessons in this great movie. Should've done a lot better at the box office!!
The Mom / wife. I don't find her unrealistic at all... Her pain is expected and She is doing something... supporting her husband and driving home the reality of what's at stake. He has the strength and she knows it, she's telling him to do what he has to do because she knows he will... war has been declared and she's fighting! The screaming at the end: she knows she has seconds to get to him... maybe someone will hear her... that's the point.
Americas health insurance policy is a joke watch the film sicko by Michael moore and see how many die every year because of the stupid policy how they reject people
@ESSJ333 Yeah, we watched Sicko, then this one in school a couple of days ago...I'm chocked...(by the way I live in Sweden) I think it's really sad, the whole thing :/
What gets me is that everyone in this movie thinks they're the good guys. Everyone in this amazing cast thinks they're doing the right thing. In a way, they're right: They're all trapped. As Samuel L. Jackson would say, they're the weak, and the system is the tyranny of evil men.
Denzel won the Oscar for "Training Day." He should have won it for this instead.
ffs, why are so many trailers like this? they just reveal the entire plot. trailers are meant to give a glance at what the movie is about, not ruin the movie
god wot a shit film.... decent idea n decent subject but shit acting shit direction shit script shitly handled just plain shit n i donut care wot ne1 else sez coz im write n your wrong diss iz a shit film innit
@MrThreshold2009 If all you see in this movie is acting, and actors, than you sir, know nothing of good movies. This was a great movie wihch had a greater meaning behind it. Did you even watch the entire film, did even pay attention? Because if you did, than you would know that it was about this world which we created, a world dominated by money, a world where if you don't have the insurance for it, you are left out in the street to die, this is a sad world. And it's our world.
@samysasy419 I am well aware of the intrinsic message of the film about Capitalism etc.... that guys line "the hypocritical oath" was laughably bad. The script was dire, the acting terrible, and the conceit utterly implausible. It is this "ham-fisted" (as one critic put it) approach that ruined its "worthwhile arguments". The 23% rating on rottentomatoes says it all.
If you rate this film, sir, I recommend you try indulging your tastes in some films which are actually good.
@MrThreshold2009 You said the concept was utterly implausible, what part of the plot do you think is 'implausible'? The part where the man risked his life and the lives of everyone in that hospital to save the life of his dying son? Don't you think any man who truly loves his child would do the same?
@samysasy419 More than likely, but then they'd be gunned down by security very rapidly and the whole premise wouldn't even take off beyond the intial stages. Especially in contemporary America where you can't even purchase a Pot Noodle without going through rigorous safety checks. And the citizens involved in the heist wouldn't have been so accommodating. Nor would the judge. Nor would the police officers outside. The whole thing was very Dog Day Afternoon (which is actually a brilliant film).
@MrThreshold2009 Dude? Did you even watch the movie, or did you jus read the plot on wiki or somethin? The security guard didn't have a gun, he did, and it was saturday, the chief of security at the hospital was off that day, and security was pretty laxed. The people were afraid for their lives b/c he had a gun, do u know how scary it is to be confronted by a man w/ a gun? Tell me, what would you do if u were a person in that hospital? And the police wouldn't just shoot him, he had hostages.
@samysasy419 The simple fact is the film is handled in such a way to make the whole thing unbelievable; the acting is so poor, characterisation so laughable, that it just deserves to be laughed off. It makes a valid point, yes, but in an inept naive manner. Like I mentioned, watch Dog Day Afternoon for a very good film based on a conceit relatively analogous. Dude, have you ever seen other movies? I love films, this was delivered by my DVD film delivery service, but John Q is just plain shit.
@MrThreshold2009 I've seen many great movies, with smart and clever plots. For example, Inside Man, and V for Vendetta, those were great movies with great plots, and with a deeper message behind it, maybe not Inside Man so much, but its still one of the greatest movies of the 21st century.
@MrThreshold2009 How many people rated it, a hundred two hundred? Well, I think more than that saw this movie. You can't jus=dge a movie based on what others say about it. And even if you don't like it, you shouldn't be talking trash about this movie, many people are faced with the same situation John Q was in, and not all of them would have the courage to do what he did to save his son.
@samysasy419 You've really got a bug up your ass about this shit film. Let it go. In the face of overwhelmingly negative responses to this shit film you still blindly attempt to defend it by warbling on about its intended message. Many films have a good message, but this does not mean it makes a good film. John Q is shit. 23%. GO figure.
@MrThreshold2009 You know what i've noticed, you've never answered a single one of my questions. How many people rated it? Would you do the same if you were in his situation? Have you even seen it? Or did you just read about in some website? You talk like you know this movie, but you don't, all you know is what some other website says. Since you like stupid, poorly writtened, meaningless movies, I suggest you go watch transformers 3, and also, you're an idiot.
@samysasy419 Guess what I've noticed - your vacuous continuation of irrelevant argument points. Yes, I understand the film makes an important point (I have stated this many times - please read my comments rather than getting all worked up). No, this does not immediately make for a good film. To reiterate; the film has lousy, laughably poor dialogue, dire acting (apart from Washington), and due to this it can't provide a relevant punch. Good message? Yes. Shit film? Yes.
@samysasy419 I already did, some time ago. To reiterate (again); look at the "hypocritical oath" line. The guy who delivered that is so ham-fisted, and the line so laughable, you can only deliver derision. It reeks of "our script is so intelligent!" For poor acting look at everyone, although Washington holds the film together. Otherwise it would have been an unmitigated disaster. But to be specific; the Julie and Mitch fight was hilariously bad. Simulataneously wooden and yet exaggerated. Shit.
@MrThreshold2009 Harhar. Yes I will admit, that some lines in the movie were cheesy or even considered bad, but you can't judge an entire movie based on a few lines that very few people even remember. And that fight between Julie and Mitch wasn't at all like what you said. He was abusing her, and kicking him in the crotch to me was a symbol of her, stripping him of his manhood, but I don't know, that's just how I saw it. In all, the message was good, and it was well filmed and directed.
what's sad is we live in a time and age where people in prison receive better healthcare than middle class citizens. Like someone once said it's the have's and the have mores. If you are stricken with cancer or some disease that costs a small fortune just to treat...go to prison you'll be well taken care of
If every person in the world turned around tomorrow and said i'm never touching money again it would be worthless, just a bit of paper. If a world catastrophe happened tomorrow and a fraction of humans survived again money would be nothing. The governments goal is to no longer use money as paper, they want all money to be on a system, I won't go into anymore detail, anyone interested can research it themselves.
the only part of this movie that pisses me off is his wife..her constant screaming (especially the run/scream at the end), and "do something, do something".. bitch why don't YOU do something.
why is there that women that in very beggining of the movie and at the end of the movie it says "for sasha" which is the same white girl in the begining that gets in the accident
omg really people.....everyone keeps saying that americas healthcare system sucks...but did you forget its the illiegal people that come over here and dont pay for their treatments that made it that way...because of those assholes everyone else has to pay more and suffer while they get free healthcare
@LachtDickhead living in england im sorry, you know its actually the american army that trains the english army lmao how do i know im currently stationed there
This video has some holes in it, and it does get cheesy at times, but it's a good movie overall. And I commend people who do this to save their children. He's a good guy.
Love the movie and love Denzel great actor.. But this movie just show how messed up americas health care system is.. I'm glad to live in Denmark where i'm fully covered in any health crisis just by paying my taxes.. I can go straight to the hospital any time i want to and they are there to help..
No the reason why others come to the United States isn't for more resources. It's because they take months upon months to get treatment for scheduled operations. Namely life or death operations by the time they'd reach them they would already be dead. That's why health care shouldn't be in the governments hands.
@theSPUDereHD I can understand their motives... still then i can't agree that poor people don't deserve to be treated just the way rich people are. Health is a right, not a previlege
@theSPUDereHD you have a strange way of calling ObamaCare free. Forcing people to buy healthcare or get fined goes against the american constitution. Besides that it'll sky rocket our national debt which is currently at 14 trillion. Bottomline if ObamaCare isn't repealed the government will be in control calling the shots. Thanks but no thanks we don't want it so start over.
@manoftomorrow79 the american constitution isnt perfect, it needs to reformed to suit current times. my judgement is clearly different to yours in the fact that i believe that peoples health is more important than paying back debt. theres a reason for why countries that have free healthcare will not vote in any party that wants to abolish their free NHS.
@theSPUDereHD No country has free health care what fantasy world are you living in? Even today more and more people are against obamacare. we need a health care system that will work not put us into more debt and go against our rights. Right now cutting down massive spending and debt is more important. We are speeding down the road to bankruptcy if that happens our country won't have anything to fall back on which means no health care period. So get your head out of your ass and live in reality
@manoftomorrow79 sorry, ill be more specific. britain, along with other countries who realise that health is a top priority for all its citizens-not just the rich (proves that the american dream is just a fallacy) have a healthcare system which allows its citizens to go to hospital, without having to pay for that treatment (its covered by the whole country paying extra tax), and wait while the hospital checks whether the patient has insurance. the debt wouldnt increase, neither would fatalities.
@theSPUDereHD that's not free since the tax payers are paying for it through higher taxes.ObamaCare was rammed through without the bill being read, and against the citizens objections.ObamaCare is no different than Canada's health care system, and they've been coming to the U.S. for years now.Once Obama is defeated next year ObamaCare will be repealed.Health Care is needed but not one designed where the government takes control and decides who can get treatment and from which doctor.
@manoftomorrow79 its free in the sense you dont have to pay to see a doctor, or go to hospital to be treated. the reason for why people go to the states for healthcare, is the fact that there is larger investment in creating cures. tablets that may help people in need, for example, may not be on canadas health care service, but may be available through american health care companies. i think its disgraceful that the worlds richest, and most powerful country, cant help its own citizens.
i really don't get what hospitals are thinking. i mean srsly, why must you pay like thousands just for a transplant from someone who DONATED their heart. anyways, GREAT MOVIE! 5 star :D
@JDTR1900 yeah at least he didn't harm anyone, as you could see everyone was pretty much comfortable being hostages cause the talked to each other & laughed & they felt bad for John & his son
@AngelBiLove I am not from Europe xD, here in South America we DO have crappy social security system. But yeah ,socialism is not the kind of system I would like in my country.
my history teacher loves the usa. and he had a big accident. Here, in europe, we got him treated IMMEDIATLY. and then they talked about money. and he didnt pay ANYTHING. In america it is different. He says in america he wouldve died. I cannot believe that in a country where they let people die because it makes them money is ANY world power at all. Fuck you america. and your arrogant nationalistic fat creationist war-mongering shit.
@AngelBiLove hey man, dont blame americans--blame our gov't, because what was supposed to be the greatest country ever is now the most corrupt, evil, narcissist, arrogant--because of the imperialistic mentality that our government holds to. where exactly in Europe do you live?
I hate it when women do that. They always claim they're equal to men in pretty much everything, then why do WE have to do most of the shit for them and all they do is nag nag nag ..... !
@heiserxx no. in europe EVERYONE has health care :) it isnt corrupt. when my history teacher got his SKULL SPLIT, they operated him, IMMEDIATLY, and brought a doctor from the next fucking door country. and he walked out a month later. and he didnt pay a fucking cent. of the 20.000 that it shouldve cost. But you don't want socialism. u dont want minimum pay, health care, 7th day rest and a maximum of daily working hours. cuz thats socialism. look it up, medieval fuckers.
I was a kid when this came out and I watched it but had no idea what was going on. All I remember is my mom crying at the end. She was gonna return it that night to blockbuster but she was too emotional from it
Why money is everything? Why people can't understand that NOT everybody is RICH? My parents always tell me; It is better to be poor and humble that be rich and hypocrite. FOR ME, HUMBLE is the key of life. God Bless.
@Angryp0stman or israel, or cuba, or england, or brazil, or greenland, or peru, or mexico, or bhutan, or india, or almost anywhere else. WAKE UP AMERICA
when I was watching the film I never expected that it will going to touch my heart .
its is a very wonderful and touching movie, .... I want to cry at the moment when John Q and his son talked about, not to give up because his son will be alive.
this movie hits so close to home. I had one son die at 33 because of no health insurance. I have another son 41 who has Croahns disease. He got so sick he could not work, lost his job and insurance and cannot get assistance even though 8 different doctors have said he is dying. Medicare keeps screwing him around with tons of paperwork.
@AHP189 omg im really sorry for that. i saw this film and i cant stop crying and now ur comment... its really sad i saw the new a hedge found manager had last year 20 mio. dollars in jzst one year and other people must die because they havnt this money. i really hate america they dont kill just people in other countrys no they killed there own people too. in america can just rich people be happy but it isnt a social country there must shamed for there work!! i wish u good luck for u and your sun
I love the irony in "Police will do whatever is necessary to preserve the lives of these hostages." when its the same motive that pushed Denzel to take the people hostages in the first place to preserve the life of his son who is hostage to the American Healthcare System. So Denzel is the Police now.
this was the saddest movie i'ver ever watched. i was tearing up at the end, denzel's bravery to give his heart to his son. and then at the end goes to prison,
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER MOVIE IF HE HAD SHOT HIMSELF...WAY More emotional

No the reason why others come to the United States isn't for more resources. It's because they take months upon months to get treatment for scheduled operations. Namely life or death operations by the time they'd reach them they would already be dead. That's why health care shouldn't be in the governments hands.

@theSPUDereHD I can understand their motives... still then i can't agree that poor people don't deserve to be treated just the way rich people are. Health is a right, not a previlege
yurialter 8 months ago
It's funny cause " q " in french means " ass "
MrMoozic 8 months ago
@theSPUDereHD you have a strange way of calling ObamaCare free. Forcing people to buy healthcare or get fined goes against the american constitution. Besides that it'll sky rocket our national debt which is currently at 14 trillion. Bottomline if ObamaCare isn't repealed the government will be in control calling the shots. Thanks but no thanks we don't want it so start over.
manoftomorrow79 8 months ago
@manoftomorrow79 the american constitution isnt perfect, it needs to reformed to suit current times. my judgement is clearly different to yours in the fact that i believe that peoples health is more important than paying back debt. theres a reason for why countries that have free healthcare will not vote in any party that wants to abolish their free NHS.
theSPUDereHD 8 months ago
@theSPUDereHD No country has free health care what fantasy world are you living in? Even today more and more people are against obamacare. we need a health care system that will work not put us into more debt and go against our rights. Right now cutting down massive spending and debt is more important. We are speeding down the road to bankruptcy if that happens our country won't have anything to fall back on which means no health care period. So get your head out of your ass and live in reality
manoftomorrow79 8 months ago
@manoftomorrow79 sorry, ill be more specific. britain, along with other countries who realise that health is a top priority for all its citizens-not just the rich (proves that the american dream is just a fallacy) have a healthcare system which allows its citizens to go to hospital, without having to pay for that treatment (its covered by the whole country paying extra tax), and wait while the hospital checks whether the patient has insurance. the debt wouldnt increase, neither would fatalities.
theSPUDereHD 8 months ago
@theSPUDereHD that's not free since the tax payers are paying for it through higher taxes.ObamaCare was rammed through without the bill being read, and against the citizens objections.ObamaCare is no different than Canada's health care system, and they've been coming to the U.S. for years now.Once Obama is defeated next year ObamaCare will be repealed.Health Care is needed but not one designed where the government takes control and decides who can get treatment and from which doctor.
manoftomorrow79 8 months ago
@manoftomorrow79 its free in the sense you dont have to pay to see a doctor, or go to hospital to be treated. the reason for why people go to the states for healthcare, is the fact that there is larger investment in creating cures. tablets that may help people in need, for example, may not be on canadas health care service, but may be available through american health care companies. i think its disgraceful that the worlds richest, and most powerful country, cant help its own citizens.

i thought you Americans didnt want free healthcare...?

@AngelBiLove I am not from Europe xD, here in South America we DO have crappy social security system. But yeah ,socialism is not the kind of system I would like in my country.
heiserxx 8 months ago
my history teacher loves the usa. and he had a big accident.
AngelBiLove 8 months ago
@AngelBiLove hey man, dont blame americans--blame our gov't, because what was supposed to be the greatest country ever is now the most corrupt, evil, narcissist, arrogant--because of the imperialistic mentality that our government holds to. where exactly in Europe do you live?

heiserxx 9 months ago
@heiserxx no. in europe EVERYONE has health care :) it isnt corrupt. when my history teacher got his SKULL SPLIT, they operated him, IMMEDIATLY, and brought a doctor from the next fucking door country. and he walked out a month later. and he didnt pay a fucking cent. of the 20.000 that it shouldve cost. But you don't want socialism. u dont want minimum pay, health care, 7th day rest and a maximum of daily working hours. cuz thats socialism. look it up, medieval fuckers.

this movie hits so close to home. I had one son die at 33 because of no health insurance. I have another son 41 who has Croahns disease. He got so sick he could not work, lost his job and insurance and cannot get assistance even though 8 different doctors have said he is dying. Medicare keeps screwing him around with tons of paperwork.

I love the irony in "Police will do whatever is necessary to preserve the lives of these hostages." when its the same motive that pushed Denzel to take the people hostages in the first place to preserve the life of his son who is hostage to the American Healthcare System. So Denzel is the Police now.
