  • holy shit, bust a move

  • I love the bass player at 1:32

  • What happened to them?

  • that's some badass intro!! <3

  • @zunaout Yes! Its almost 5 am where I am at right now, but I didn't want to go to sleep before I found the source of the sweet noise that was plaguing my head for most of the day.

  • DAMMIT @_@

  • fuck yes.

  • Noise.

  • VISUALS BY LON CLARK & MIKE ADLEMAN AKA . PURE!

  • Such a cooooool video.

  • masterpeice can't believe i've never heard it. today is a good day

  • on of the best noise pop songs

  • Paul D'Amour from Tool was in this band. I can't believe it. That's weird.

  • It's the To Here Knows When chorus riff completely lifted and filtered through Soon. Still good though

  • White. Fucking. HOT.

  • sooo good

  • Ok maybe my last comment wasnt very fair...what i ment to say was FUCKING SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey guys, does anyone know if brad laner is distortion his guitar through a yamaha 4-track in this song?

  • @el9ctronic reallyyyyyyy?????????? sick!

  • What are the chances a band will come and bring this scene back

from what it seems, shoegaze is dead.

The Radio Dept. pushes an idea here and there but I see no more innovation on

the level My Bloody Valentine set the standard at.

  • @xroyceyeahx have you not heard Ringo Deathstarr? Full on shoegaze worship and they know how to write a catchy song to boot.

  • @commitzar yeah, man, and their single, imagine hearts is sooo influenced by Medicine and MBV. i just ordered their vinyl 2 weeks ago :)

  • @commitzar my band the Tweeds played with Ringo Deathstarr in philly, check out our tunes!

  • Check out the homemade porn music video to this tune at xhamster.

  • Medicine is a LEGEND if you ask me. Sadly,Beth Thompson left them, but you can still hear her with her new band,The Shyway. Search 'Painful Cyst' or find her in "my favorite channels". i and Spacirelei are both on her friend list, why is this a secret...!?

  • @mouthofknives forgot to mention, Beth's Youtube ID is 'mylite99'

  • Great Scott; what a band! I love the intro into a nice melody. Leave it to the Brits to make it cool; to the Yanks to get it right. Lovely guitar noise fills my ear with pain and pleasure. I just bought their catalog. Whew!

  • In my universe Medicine were bigger than all the rest. The best band of the 90s. Leave it the americans to do it right after the brits make it cool. The best into of any song of it's type.

  • this is AWESOME!!!!!!

  • YES! Medicine kicked so much ass. If JAMC was scotch whiskey, MBV was weed and a bit of ecstasy, then Medicine were defiantly mushrooms.

  • F**k me this is good - And the video! Like the '80's all over again :D

    Simon

  • @crescentsi

    its like the 90s...

  • INTRO IS TERRIBLE!

  • @aramin01 the intro is amazing man. fits perfectly with the song

  • @aramin01 The intro is the best part of the song.

  • The low video quality helps make it woozier & more unreal.

  • this is the song that turned me on to Medicine, the first time i heard it was when I was a DJ at a college station the album had just came out and was on the regular rotation since I already loved noise music when I cued the cd for a track to play this one was the one I would play and i would turn it up very loud. By the time Medicine was in the Crow soundtrack and film I knew who they were I even got to see them live on their tour years ago.

  • Sounds like Half-Light from the Mothman Prophecies

  • just ordered their first lp for £9 cant wait for it to come

  • @rossko999

    ppl still buy music? lol...

  • @meinLiebsterFeind

    only weirdos it seems

  • best Noise Pop song ever... this song turned me on to Medicine, and I was lucky to see them perform live 94.

  • extremely hard to download anyone have a good link?

  • iTunes

  • Man...so sexual, but without being overt.

  • esta banda es una de mis favoritas de siempre!

  • who is my bloody valentine?

...i think i have a new fav band. LOVE IT! <3

  • Awesome song, Medicine is one of my favorite bands!

  • That's Medicine!!! their noize almost kills me. How absorbed sounds they are...love them!

  • One of my favourite intros for any song ever.

  • One of my favorite bands EVER. They were so good live.

All three of their LPs are great......FIND THEM.

  • best medicine song

  • except it isn't, poop head.

  • @KutsuGyoushi si, en realidad tiene la base bailable de la bateria, y las voces de kevin y bilinda, se parecen, pero no son iguales...

igual me gusta mucho medicine...a pesar que sean parecidos a my bloody valentine, brad laner hace unos ruidos super extraños.

  • you're dumb.

  • WROONG!!!

  • Was introduced to this song at the Swamp Club in Bath, England, fall of 1992. I had requested My Bloody Valentine, and the DJ smartly dropped the Weatherall mix of "Soon" on us. Then, with the air thoroughly filled with chemical smoke, he blended it into Medicine's "Aruca." I ran up to the DJ booth both times enthralled and asking, "What is this?!?!" Within a few weeks I had added both songs to the pile of audio treasures I brought back to the U.S. with me. Sweet nostalgia.

  • that's an awesome story! nice

  • Yes yes...thank you for sharing.

  • @sw1pe great story! :-)

  • @sw1pe That's funny, I remember the first time I heard this song I thought it was made with Soon in mind. It's all in the tambourine...

... as well as the shrieking guitars...

  • @PoetsOfElan I like. To run with your idea, "Aruca" is like "Soon's" punkier precocious niece jumping up and down on the bed and singing into a hair-brush. :-D I love both of these songs.

  • omg.. i never heard this before... its totally awesome

    shoegaze for the win

  • It started out like too much! I didn't think I would get into it but then It got too good!!!

  • Stupid twats. These guys are great. Shoegaze wasn't just a Brit thing.

  • No it wasn't, but I think for the most part the Americans jumped on board after the release of Isn't Anything. By 1992, it was already starting to die off. We just picked up the torch in 1994.

  • @Spacirelei

Well, *everyone* jumped on board after Isn't Anything. I guess if all you're interested in is the flavor of the month, then, yeah, it died out in 1992. If you actually like the MUSIC, then it's still just as valid as it was then. Your call.

  • Simultaneously beautiful and disturbing... A soothing cacophony.

  • Glorious.

  • epic

  • 懐かしいですね。

    有難うございます。

  • Bosom tilting, the shank.

    It is grateful.

  • Brad was from Savage Republic, no? Is there any Savage Republic stuff on the Tube?

and, it's all just son house and robert johnson... :)

  • ive been a fan for the last 16 years.

    believe it or not....

the lead singer was in the bangles.

    no shit budd.

    she turned good,thx love

  • i think if u all heard more of their stuff, there'd b more of it on youtube. did i say "think"? i KNOW there would! i lost their albums, SHOT FORTH SELF LIVING,HER HIGHNESS,& BURIED LIFE. STRIPPED & REFORMED is good too.n e way,I WANNA HEAR EM!

  • WAT DOES ARUCA MEAN??

  • its still good

  • I hate it when other bands are influenced by MBV.

I wish no one was ever influenced by MBV.

I wish I lived in a womb that played MBV 24-hours a day, every day, forever.

I make fun of you - open your ears.

  • We think much the same. You have summed up exactly how I feel. I would shake your hand if I could.

  • i am sorry, this is ripped off of MBV "Soon."

I am sorry, but MBV was at another level.

  • I am sorry that you are sorry that you detected that this was influenced by MBV.

I am also sorry to hear about this "other level".

What a sorry situation we find ourseleves in.

    Sorry !

  • LOL. I just did not want to offend anyone. Especially since they wanted to rival MBV.

    Sorry :oP

  • just listened 2 my bloody valentine's soon, and NO,this song is not a rip off. u r hearing the layered guitar of both songs, but u should try listening 2 the notes.

  • looked it cant find any bangles connection - pity good story

  • annette z. was the original bassist in the bangles (see the first e.p.). she was also the original lead singer in medicine and co-wrote aruca and miss drugstore. there's your connection.

  • best makeout/fuck song ever. Medicine RUUULLLZZZZZ!!!!!!

  • believe it or not...

the lead singer is from the eighties band called the bangles.

    walk like an egyptian lol.

    its true,FACT.

    thank god she made good.

    disbelieve? look it up

  • Thats Annette, shes not the lead singer, The lead was Beth Thompson, then later Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee and sister of Brandon Lee.

  • Annette Zilinskas was the original lead singer of Medicine but was replaced by Beth Thompson before they made any records.

  • Actually, the first time I saw Medicine perform live, (opening for Chapterhouse at the Whisky, L.A., before Shot Forth Self Living was released), *both* Annette and Beth were on stage.

  • yes.. when i found this cd at the swapmeet in like 95 or so it was her name in the credits that made me by it.. it was the first i'd ever heard of them..

  • Wow thanks for posting this. Fuckin rad.

  • What are the lyrics to this song?

  • great psychedelic stuff, hypnotic and very creative art in video.

  • eeeeeek how am i still alive?? :)

  • Saw these guys in early 90's at roxy or whiskey (can't remember). WAS SSOOOOO LOUD!!! Think I suffered slight permenate hearing loss... was worth it!!!

  • These are the only guys who tried to do the MBV thing and got it right. Like they really came up with their own cool version of how this stuff should sound. and they remembered that it's all about rocking. all those other shoegaze bands (except maybe Ride and obviously MBV themselves) really weren't any good.

  • Friggin' GREAT!

  • The first time I heard Medicine I almost wrecked my car. Stunning. Thank you, college radio back in the day.

  • flipped when i saw this,loved em since 92

  • Una joya, un clasico!! a favoritos!

  • saw em live in S.F. it was like being on drugs!

  • my fave shoegaze band, they just plain rock

  • is the best song i've ever heard ...

the best shoegaze's band after my bloody valentine...

"shot forth self living" one of my favourites cds ("isn't anything" from mbv too!)

  • got to love a band that loves to play LOUD

  • some did. it was a top five indie single in the UK.

  • This is like a MBV/Stone Roses mash up. I can't believe people didn't shit their pants over it when it was happening. Incredible.

  • I did. This live was INSANE!!!!!!!!! JESUS LOUD!!!!! shame they were kind of slagged off cause they were in the middle of sounds/scenes.

  • i love this song, but i haven't see the vid till today.thank's for the add.

"shot forth self living" is my favourite record from medicine

  • so what ?

  • Hey if you don't like bands that sound like Mbv or are similar to them then just stick to Mbv. As for me I am glad these guys came out.

  • these guys dont even show on FYE dot com which sucks still wish i could find more of their work though

  • aka "soon" by MBV

  • this sounds a bit like soon but they havent ripped it off...it's a different song

  • The guitar part at the beginning is nuts

  • so what ?

  • yeah dude... aren't they in the first crow movie? 3rd generation mbv tipriders.

  • 5ive is also on youtube.

  • did not there was a video for this song... this was one of my favorite and first Medicine songs I ever heard... I loved to turn up the Stereo as loud as it could go at the beginning of the song.

  • There are two other Medicine videos on YOutUbe, Time Baby 3 and The Pink

  • Its like SOnic Youth but WAY better

  • Interesting association. Glenn Branca's influence on Sonic Youth's influence on Kevin Shields influence on Brad Laner band Medicine.

  • More like Curve + early Controlled Bleeding. That intro helped me get into harsh noise & power electronics back in 1993. Thank you Medicine!

  • Way cool, i wish there where more videos avalible from medicine on youtube.

  • these are pretty cool. Yeah sounds very My Bloody Valentine, but hey, it has it's own character. Must check these out more

  • do they have any fansites or an official website?

  • Hahaha you can overlap this song with "Soon" but Medicine is pretty cool!

  • saw medicine open up for swervedriver...what a shew!

  • this song starts of in an almost glenn branca manner, but gravitates towards what which is almost certainly derived from MBV's soon. Still, It's quite good.

  • keen observation, CC. I agree.

  • luv this track! thanks:D

  • amazing

  • nice...

  • Is it just me who thinks this sounds basically nothing like MBV? Ok the video has similarities and it has a shoegaze feel, but to me it sounds more like some of the Manchester stuff that was eminating at the time, Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, that kind of thing but more hard edged. Anyway, it's a great song

  • Wasn't too much more like this happening in LA at the time. More noise to them...cool

  • my favorite medicine track

  • I'm glad I got to see Medicine live in Providence RI back in the day - circa 1994.

I think Medicine is much noisier, wrote better songs than MBV, MBV is way too light for the most part. Medicine really embraced extreme noise, experimentation and psychedelia. And she's gorgeous too. Laner recently made a new "Medicine" album with himself and Bruce Lee's daughter singing. It's very experimental pop/electronics.

  • Sorry, friends, but the difference between Medicine and MBV is that Medicine was actually pleasant to listen to.

  • Ya'll are a bunch of haters. Medicine is fantastic.

  • Who cares if it's a little MBV? Brad Laner is genius anyhow. Look folks, good music doesn't usually happen in a vacuum - so, so what if it sounds somewhat like something else? It's still great. We all win.

  • good song. rest of theyr stuff was crap. get over shoegazing, its nearly sooo long ago

  • it doesn't matter where the music came from. It's wonderful. That's what matters.

  • wow, awesome, just browsing and hoping that something might pop up with this great band, and tada!, never expected it. Great stuff!, thanks!

  • what a clever boy you are

  • My Bloody Valentine just called and they want their music/video/band back...

  • Medicine gone boats, too.

  • Medicine bone goats

  • what a MBV rip-off. even the video is a damn rip-off.

  • This entire EP is great!! wow, thanks for posting this video, i've never seen it before.

  • Takes me back to the days of yore -- loud and noisy and transcendent -- this was such a fantastic record -- and their live shows were great, too.
