F.Y.I. If your really interested in Star Trek get a book called "The real Star Trek" by Herbert Solow . I have nothing to do with the book or Herbert Solow . I saw it in Barnes and Noble in the cheap book section and it had an unbelieveable wealth of Star Trek stuff in it .
This is great. I'm a huge con hound and have seen the de-evolution of the modern convention. This video shows me what I missed, and I'm ever hopeful that the "good ol' days" of conventions come back someday. Some East Coast cons (and Monsterpalooza here in SoCal) still have that vibe, but we need more fan-run cons and less corporate b/s ones.
I went to this convention with a bunch of friends . We got there Thursday afternoon if I remember corectly , Thursday night some guy showed ABC promo comercials and a Star Trek blooper reel which I have not seen since . There were just a few of us and we were wondering around that night in the motel, heard the comercials and were then treated to all the blooper reels including the one I have not seen since . There were only a few of us in the convention room who saw this . It was really cool.
What a great video. I was there (attended Equicon 72 & 73 as well). Too bad you didn't get a shot of the costume contest with the girl wearing "The Costume NBC would never allow".
Mike Farrell was somewhat put off when he was there . He acted like he was just to good to do "conventions" . David Gerrold was conceited but everyone else there were good people . Arlene Martell acted the Vulcan part the whole time she was there . Never once was she out of character . Glad I never decided to wear a costume . Id never live that one down .
I remember at this convention you could just walk up to any of the stars and just start talking with them . Now they all have entourages and body guards . I was a smartass to David Gerold and said "hey your Gene Roddenberry" and he signed my "The Making of Star Trek..Gene Roddenberry" . He was a very conceited person . I talked with him when no one else was there . I asked him if he would resign my book with his real signature but he said no . He was a dickhead . Everyone else was cool though .
I was 10 and certainly not on that side of the Atlantic. But how well the music fits! And nice to read comments from those who have been there and still feel it's important. Thanks!
I was 16 and attended this convention . We got there on a Friday and watched some of the bloopers that night . They were bloopers that went onto be famous and a few that I havnt seen since . I got most of my autographs at this one convention . I was out in the parking lot when a cab pulled up and out popped Walter Koenig . It was good because there were all kinds of people in costume from different movies such as Planet of the Apes . It was surreal on that Friday night .
Hey, thanks for this. I was a 12-year-old in attendance there and I remember seeing just about all of the celebrities you highlight. Wish I had photos or video to contribute, but I have only memories.
Thank you...my first Equicon was in 1975 at the same hotel. Many happy memories of that con and subsequent "Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy" cons run by Doug Wright. Those cons were truly a breed apart from the cons of today. You couldn't afford all those stars today. As I recall, the admission was like $12.00 for all three days. Great times.
That was really awesome! I was there (my first con - thanks to Bjo), and your video brings back great memories. For those interested, you can see Bjo, Kirk Alyn and David Gerrold in the trailer for Superbman: The Other Movie, which is on my channel.

Great footage. Thanks for sharing. Someone ought to try to build a library of such convention footage for the historical record.
