If you want to leave you're dog natural go ahead,BUT if you want to alter your dog, that's cool too!
Don't post back with some argument to the contrary as you will STILL be wrong. It is all purely Don't pop back with some crap on how I am against it because I am NOT. I have dobes, I am an experienced Breeder/Trainer for 25 years. I doc the tails & on some even do the ears. The bottom line is you need to call it what it is. An elective cosmetic procedure. Dewclaws are different as working dogs are at risk of ripping them and because of this they are removed for the safety of the dog.
FYI to all of you that think you know all about cropping ears and why its done and why its necessary or better for the dog.... NO you are wrong across the board. There is absolutely NO benefit to the dog to get this done. It is purely for the look of the dog. A need of the owner to make the dog look a certain way THAT'S IT! It does NOT help the dog hear better. It does not impact the functionality of the ear in any way. Neither does docking the tail.
The dobie will grow into the ears, it's still a pup.
Personally, I love the ear crop, I'll be doing it to my own dobie when I get one. Ear crop and tail docked on mine.
The ears are cropped to help the functionality of them, and you can also understand the doggie expressions better because the doberman has better control over them.
The tail is docked because, as the doberman is a protection dog, the tail is too much of a liability to get caught up in a fight. (Whether used as protection or not)
doberman with cropped ears= a DOBERMAN, its personal preference. if you dont want a dogs ears cropped bc it's 'cruel' then you are most likely a hippocrite since a huge percent would circumcize your baby boys, pierce your baby girls ears, get implants, nose jobs, cut your arm wobble off. if youre against it... DONT DO IT AND SHUT UP!
@johnmalory26 eww plastic surgery for dogs is a stupid thing, i'd do the ears, even the tail, but I'd never reconstruct my dog, thats where it goes a little overboard.
Doing the ears kinda makes sense for the hearing like the other guy was saying below, when i put my hands over my ears slightly i can hear that woooosh noise of the blood flowing, so maybe thats how it is with dogs. (I'm not a proffesional that's just how i think)
I like the cropped ears but I wish people left the tails long. Who wants a pathetic little stump wagging at you when you come home? All dogs look better with tails.
im a human ur a dog lets cut off some of ur ear from this cute wittle pup to looking like a feroius beast and thats half the reason they r framed as mean dogs im fostering sum and they r the the sweetest dogs they call them mean bcaze they look mean
I've had three with ears done, and three natural ears. I think they look fine either way.
After all that, I'm still an advocate for the docked tail. I haven't had anything knocked off a table or been hit in the groin by a tail in almost 20 years. Selfish? Maybe.
@littleGary25 what r u saying? i am just telling everyone who think they know all the shit about ear cropping. i am ok with ear cropping. like u said we eat meat cause it taste good. ear crop is the same shit. we r giving these dogs hope. ppl who is veggie. shit they the same way too pull planet out the ground cause they can say no. sew ur mouth shut so u cant say no. let someone pull ur hair out. how would u feel? still like i said mind ur own business!! ear crop is ok.
regardless of the "role" of your doberman, tail docking I believe is necessary. however ear cropping isnt....unless you wanna enter shows or have him/her as a guard/police dog. but im sure thats been said more than enough times on here.....
@littleGary25 lol, how the hell do you know? why dont you scroll back and read some of the comments.
thats what a message board/forum is for. Just because you dont want to hear my opinion, doesnt mean somebody else doesnt want to As a former dobie owner I like to offer my opinion to those interested in this breed
@mengvue1 Why do you care so much about my education? Thought you were a women judging by your uploads, but back to the point. Humans do not need meat, there are millions of vegetarians who live healthy lives! Yes, we want to keep eating meat, because it tastes good. You're just confused because you want a hamburger. ; /
With their ears cropped it improves their hearing significantly,.... which is important for military/police/guard dogs so that they can pinpoint the location of a sound, the cropped ears make it harder for criminals to pull on as same with the tail, the cropped ears and tail isn't just for cosmetic reasons, its for practical reasons as well. Pro choice!
@Stefandurr Whats there to think about youre judging me because I have piercings ect.. Its the same as judging somone based on the colour of their skin. Also a stereotype. Either way youre a prick.
@Stefandurr And I never said that cropping ears should be done for fashion ect... Sometimes its better. A person got attacked on here because they docked their dogs tail due to it getting broken several times!! Im glad youre not my boyfriend/husband or son my husband does not try and stereotype people and my child is being raised not to judge people. YOU PRICK
@Stefandurr It was sarcasm!! Because I like piercings and tattoes that means what.. Nothing you dont know me so dont make a fucking judgement. No it doesnt say anything at all about me. The fact that youd judge someone based on something they like is just as bad as a racist!! Ill assume youre one of those as well
Its so annoying to see the comments from people who know little or nothing about ear cropping.People should keep their opinions to then selves,if they dont agree with it then dont do it.No one is telling you to do it,if your country doesnt allow it we dont care.My dobe was not one bit stressed after surgery,he was playful as always and showed no signs of pain.The europeans say we are ignorant,when ear cropping originated there.Also canines are not supposed to have floppy ears,it was bred in.
@Prevail18 My dogs 8 months old still looks like shes younger.. It very well may be the dog was a runt. But honestly looking at her id say thats about right. she would be a hell of alot smaller were she around the age you suggested
Hahaha I think you people bickering should find a debate site instead of YouTube haha.
I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of seeing thousands of fights over cropping and docking. Natural my ass! There's not one natural "purbred" dog out there. There all shit mixes anyways. So who cares if we alter dogs a bit more. It's not like we caused all the genetic defects. It's not like we bred cancers and disease into them. It's not like we "made" hundreds of different dogs.
You clearly have no real reason save your own rocky emotional standing for rejecting cropping and docking. If you do not want a cropped dog, don't crop your dog. More power to you. However, you've said nothing that demonstrates you have ANY capacity to judge what other people choose on this topic.
I told you where to find the info you want, and you clearly do not want to find it. You'd prefer to scream "liar" than do real research.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Every injury and scrape exposes a dog to infection, and "vet mistakes" is a rather random thing to worry about. One can SUE a vet for a mistake, clearly. You're digging for excuses since you have no real ones same your emotional preference. I'd also love to see proof dogs experience "Phantom Ears."
You do not get to separate cropping you like and don't like. It is either acceptable or its not. The same for your strange position on neutering, you make little sense.
More assumptions, more opinions. You certainly seem to like shoving your opinion out on others with no other reason but that you LIKE your opinion better. You have ignored every point I make, which makes it clear you're basing your opinion off your own emotional basis and not on facts.
Your last comment is ridiculous. Every pet dog is required by city/state LAW to be neutered for no other reason than dogs will breed. Being anti-breeding is not a medical reason.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo 1- Because is painful (ignore pain meds of human quality & strength) and unnecessary (ignore that it is often necessary). You are hurting the dog (ignoring pain meds again) to make it look pretty (assuming vanity while ignoring actual purpose).
2- all of them cruel iillogical reasons (your assumptions yet again... you do this a LOT).
There is plenty of info on docking and its purpose/benefits. If you can't find it, you are TRYING not to find it or didn't try at all.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo You keep asking questions that have been answered, then you continue to assert that your opinion is somehow more valuable and thus more realistically applicable. I'd like to ask a question now.
Why do you think a minor vet procedure is horribly stressful and painful? Spaying/neutering in my experience causes FAR more pain and stress. My female didn't move for 3 days after spaying, but bounced out of the crate after her docking. By your logic spaying is BRUTAL.
1- Stupid? WHY? Your opinion, AGAIN. Many dobes are working and sports dogs. Heck, I've seen a therapy dog injured in a hospital cart accident. What is "stupid" to you may be vital to someone in another field. You have a self-inflated opinion.
2- You have no idea why each family chooses to crop. You can only ASSUME its out of petty vanity, & not for adhering to breed standard, family tradition, etc.
3- Often, & I already told you what to research via docking.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo My opinion like yours is irrelevant. If an owner finds vet care with pain meds (you talk of pain as if its unmanagable) necessary, that is their business. PC eco-minions calling me a dog hater, cruel, or any of the other things you ASSUME of me does not change that.
There are far more painful & far worse things in the world than a minor surgury being done by a responsible vet, & you've said nothing that leads me to think you should tell anyone what to do with their dogs.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo You clearly missed my point. I train dogs & I've seen 3 dogs with ears ripped clean off during police & sporting events. They usually bleed to death, & they were all breeds that typically crop but weren't. The ear can & does have valid reasons to be cropped (beyond my example), just as docking does. Your OPINION otherwise, as I said, is irrelevant when compared to the facts.
@DeadlyChinchilla Pardon me, no cat was specifically bred to be *docked,* from my understanding.
Have you seen a natural doberman tail? Its long, thin, fragile, and they're ridiculously oblivious to smashing it into things. (That is, until its actually broken & they can't move their back legs or walk, & pee all over themselves because it hurts so much.) Many dog breeds are like this, you can look up commonly docked breeds to compare to undocked breeds if it pleases you to do such research.
@DeadlyChinchilla Our Dobies in uk with tails sure ain't got a long, thin, fragile tails, they have a serious strong bitch of a tail that whips better than any riding crop.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Btw, I would have 1 dog instead of 2 without docking. I rescued a full tail dobe & she broke it 3 times in 1 year. $1200 later we gave our politically correct vet an ultimatum. Take the tail off, or lose all our business forever. They took the tail off, and we thankfully got to keep our dog without being sucked dry.
Or to save her tail you preferred I gave her to our only local shelter, a kill facility?
The only question you should ask is "does she have a good home?"
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Your comparison isn't even close. Cropping the ears and docking the tail does not impact mobility or body functions. In fact, they *improve* function, and without mechanical interferance with shiny, pretty wheels. That, and you'd have to prove someone was cropping their dog "because its pretty" to make that less silly a comparison.
Your opinion that it serves no purpose is your opinion. It is not the opinion of others. Or is your opinion just more special? Must be.
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Stuff your sarcasm. You'd prefer someone crop the ears at home with scissors and no pain meds? This is a proper crop done by a vet, pain meds were used, and you trying to shove your opinion down other peoples throats does the dog no good.
Btw, most dogs undergo very little stress. They're taken home and loved on like babies. I'd also like to know if you're a boy/man, and if you're circumsized.
Anyone here saying that "cropping the ears is pointless" is wrong. Dobies are a working class dog. A cropped ear is one less flap for an attacker to bite/grab. It is the same case with the docked tail. Also, Dobies were bred to protect humans and the cropped ears added a menacing look to them. Having said that, majority of doberman owners do not put their dogs to work, so I can understand why people are against ear cropping.
Completely cosmetic. No need for this at all. Its a matter of people giving an illusion of "alertness" to attack, or to look "nice". There's no better looks than what they were born with. It simply looks pleasing because thats how we always see them wherever we go.
@Jorge007dr It differs person to person what is "pleasing," obviously. The doberman has a history of tall ears, and many dobe owners keep with that tradition. Whether you call it cosmetic or not, many times it does serve a function.
Whether you like cropping or not, its better off for the dogs that it remains legal so that people will take them to vets to have it done with meds. The moment some PC law says "no cropping," you'll get a lot of "home crops" that mutilate dogs with NO pain meds.
@DeadlyChinchilla Yeah, thats the sad truth. First of all, I know criminalizing it won't do any good, cuz humans always want to do what is not in the best interest. Regardless whether it's legal or not, whether they have a history of it or not, it's still costmetic and completely unecessar.
People seem to miss the origin of that history. It's a tradition that has wrong ideals, so it makes no sense for owners to follow it. And ultimately the function that it serves is clearly, simply unnatural
@Jorge007dr What "wrong ideals" are those? The defense of men from criminals and thugs is a "wrong ideal?" I think perhaps you don't even know why dogs were historically cropped, much less why they do it now or if it is unnecessary.
And how can you claim "unnatural" function for a dog that didn't develop naturally in the first place? Doberman didn't pop out of a golden retreiver and a toy poodle with wolf grandparents, they were bred by men for men and mens purposes.
@DeadlyChinchilla Is a "wrong ideal" because that defense the dogs may serve, will be there whether its ears is cropped or not. You don't understand what unnatural is? Obviously, making it what it truly is not compared to its nature. And you obviously don't have an idea of breeding, because those men breeders you're trying to defend actually had cases of completley throwing away a dog because it didn't come out as the breed was expected.
So whatever breed they wanted, it still doesnt justify.
@Jorge007dr Random whining meant to serve in the place of logic. A US Marine tossed a puppy off a cliff, does that mean Marines are monsters? Of course not. Most would sooner adore that dog before brutally murder it.
Btw, thats real dog abuse there. A minor procedure that amounts to less than a human circumcision doesn't even come close. Your determination of natural is vague. I think trimming a coat would come close to being abuse under your personal definition.
@DeadlyChinchilla Hehe, wow. Whatever you were trying to convey to me with the Marine example, failed because that Marine guy is a irrational idiot. Did I ever say that this guy is dehumanizing or dog abuse. You're evidently blinded if you thought that was what I was calling this owner. The procedure the early dog breeders used to formulate these dogs were not the best ones. The owner of this dog, is doing unnecessary things.Like cosmetic surgery. Understand now? Or do you need 1st grade words?
@Jorge007dr Wow... you didn't even understand my reference. Kind of sad that you were so proud of yourself anyway that you thought vapid insults would help you. Classy.
Get back into school. Reading comprehension is vital, man. You're going to be using that later. That is, if you *want* a job.
Like I said, I'm done here. The only arguments anyone can offer against cropping/docking has been their personal dislike of it as usual, which is hardly a reason at all. Buh-bye.
@Jorge007dr Heres whats unnatural... dogs came from wolves wolves have pointy ears.. man took wolves bred them bred them bred them bam DOGS.. Man took DOGS bred them bred them bred them bam golden retrievers toy poodle yellow lab chihuhua cocker spaniels the list goes on. Dogs started out a certain way and over time were bred to look different ways.
umm, no they don't. when their ears are natural, they look more like a hound dog & more like a rottie. i think they look better with their ears cropped. they look more intimidating & scary, & prettier.
Its people like you that shouldnt own a dog. 'they look more intimidating etc'. Go man up & take some steroids or something if you need protection. Dogs are not here just to look menacing you total fucking idiot.
@Daized2009 are you trying to make me mad or something? or are you just in a horrible mood? you shouldn't go around telling people whether or not they're the kind of people who should have dogs based on their comments. it's stupid to do that. i was just saying i think they look better in cropped ears & more scary. not this.."i need a protection dog who's intimidating cause i'm not man enough!" & i know that dogs aren't only for protection. i'm not that dumb.
Well I blame yesterday on too much wine & my mates wedding. I'm never drinking wine again (Yeah right) & sorry for being a little OTT. Think I just read 'mean looking' & went off on a rant (I used to work at a rescue center in the UK, nearly all Dobies were given up as they weren't 'mean' enough, that or some idiots tried to crop ears themselves (they would dump 'em), even though it's illegal here. Anyway sorry about that lol. If it's any consolation Ive got a hangover from hell :)
@Daized2009 Thats funny. My experience at my local dobe rescue is that most people give them up because they got too big, or they couldn't control them well enough. NOT that they weren't "mean" enough. Many dogs came in because they were TOO mean.
But thats here in the US. The UK may be different. Anyway, thats what you get when you illegalize something as small a thing as cropping. People will just self crop at home, usually with no pain meds for the dog. Legal = safer & pain free.
I think this is disgusting! Ear cropping has been banned in the U.K (where I am from) because of the harm and distress it causes to animals! This just shows the ignorance of Americans, that beauty or the perception is of beauty is more important than an animals well being and happyiness!!!!
@ChloeMckay1 You have somewhat of a point, I agree that people become more concerned with a dog's looks rather than the personality. But the docking of the tail and cropping of the ears does serve a purpose when a Dobie is a Military/Working Dog. The crop of the ear decreases the risk of ear infection because it creates air flow. It also allows them to hear better as it helpswith pitch. The docking of the tail is because Dobermans are born with a very fragil tail that tends to break easily.
@ChloeMckay1 But you're probably all for: the MUTILATION of Castration ( cutting off testicles) or Spaying; ( Spaying involves the removal of both the uterus and the ovaries)
That's pretty ignorant LOKIslog, Spaying is not 'cutting off testicles' it's stoping any flow, hence they 'snip' the tube(s).
Some dogs aree studs & breeders sure, but the majority of dogs are spayed for a reason. a) the impact it has on future mating (imagine if they all mated, then their pups mated etc etc) & b) Imagine running round the whole of your life with raging hormones but you can't have sex. Wouldn't be my idea of fun.
@Daized2009 Spayed = a female cat or dog who has had both ovaries and uterus surgically removed, and is not capable of producing offspring.
Neutered = a male cat or dog who has had both testicles surgically removed, and is not capable of producing offspring. Also known as castration. Some refer to "neutered" as a male or female dog that has been surgically altered to render them sterile (testicles removed or ovaries removed, making them not capable of producing offspring)
@ChloeMckay1 I know this comment is old, but oh well.
Ignorance of Americans? Cocky, arrogant Limey, you mean. You illegalized cropping, and now you have a surge in illegal and PAIN MED FREE croppings done by people at home. In the US people pay good $ to have a proper and pain free crop done by licensed vets. Thats "arrogant" where you come from? Come out of your bubble. Safe and pain free = legal cropping. Some dogs were bred to be cropped, so you can stuff your opinion otherwise.
Nice ears. I just had my dobermans ears cropped yesterday n i wanted to know if i can tape dem already or do i have to wait for the stitches to be removed ?
@dobermankingws You should be able to post them with the stitches in but make sure the tape it laying softly on the ears so make sure there isnt any pulling or irritation on the stitches (:
Question for anyone nice enough to answer. I'm not sure when to stop posting my dogs ears. I've searched the net a lot and haven't found enough info stating how it should look what the ears should do etc. Had my dogs ears cropped at 9wks shes 5months now. The ear don't fold or anything when i take the post off but when she relaxes they go off to the side almost to a 180 degree angle, is that supposed to happen? I plan on keeping them on for no less then a month more.
This in no way a 'pop' at your pup/dog. Looks very happy & healthy. I just have a slight problem with amatures that think cropping is a must to make a dog look menacing. Lovely dog, & nice to see the long crop has taken to taping.
'Ears fixed' 'Worse pain (how, by self mutilation?)' You carry on with your crops, no-one thinks you are a hard case because you have a dog that looks 'menacing'. You still have allot to learn :) (as do most of you by the looks of it)
I wonder how many of you would discard a dog if his/her ears didn't take properly. Ive had to many Dobies the same way with amature crops. You are full of lame excuses, all of you. So bye (& please don't own this breed for fucks sake)
@Daized2009 Im not tryin to be a hard case. And so what if a woman wants a dog who can protect her. Is it so wrong for a woman to have a dog that can warn off a threat. Dont tell me im tryin to b a hard case when i've had friends who've been raped. One of my gal friends even had a cropped ears doberman who protected her from a man who intended her harm. Your judging me and assuming im a man, that has a complex when in all actuality i'm a woman who want a dog who can protect me.
@nikigurl08 you seem one of those people that just like dobermans because of their looks, not their great temperament and i saw on another video you said something like people shouldnt own a doberman if they dont have their ears cropped or tails docked...so all those natural dobies shouldnt get loving homes because they dont like'??? how pathetic is that, i would have thought that someone who is 'passionate about dogs' wouldnt be so naive
Oh, I know you're female, so no I didn't assume you were male... why would I? You come out with pathetic excuses over & over again, its obvious you're female.
I suggest you get a tazer & shut ya mouth & NEVER own a dog no matter what the breed. Dogs are not just there to protect you. This is why we check most homes, because of people that want pure guards, never walk them, just use them as a so called weapon. Sort yaself out & stop trying to make excuses you twat.
@Daized2009 And no even if our Dobermans ears didnt take we just go w a shorter crop so they did take. SO stop makin prejudgements. You dont know me, you dont know y I have a doberman and you dont even know my doberman. Its like your upset because you cant bare to think of anyone responsible cropping their dobermans ears. WELL THEIR ARE TONS OF RESPONSIBLE OWNERS W CROPPED EARS SO GET OVER IT!!
@Daized2009 So do everyone a favor and stop makin prejudgement of dog owners. YOU live in a country where ear croppin isnt popular, but that does not make your way superior to everyone elses. Your culture is different than the american culture and from other cultures but that does not make it superior or make you right. Its simply what you've been brought up w. So u do what you do, and I'll do what I do and so will everyone else. And if you dont like it TO DAMN BAD!!
Yes you will do what you will do, thats for sure. & yep it's 'too damn bad' as you put it.
I'll judge people like you as much as I like, as themollyholly101 rightly said, you are a cosmetic wanabee & probably don't know the 1st thing about taping ears & crops.
I'm not sure why you say our culture is so different as it isn't (unless it suits you apparently), you are just a little more 'power happy' than us :)
That's a great ear job! I hope that the ears of my future doberman would be the same. I think I have to search for a good vet before I even start looking for a good dobie breeder.
cropping is really pointless....though it does depend on your need. We've had two dobies (still have one of em). One had ears cropped, but we felt no need really to get our second one done. If your going to have a dog that will compete or will be working as a guard dog then cropping is necessary...
Ears - normally cropped and carried erect. The upper attachment of the ear, when held erect, is on a level with the top of the skull.
The Dobie was bred to work as a guardian. Docking/cropping minimizes easily damaged body parts with high blood flow and I challenge those against it to list an award winning Dobie that isn't docked and cropped.
Finally someone with some sense. It's a shame some people just talk utter bollocks about why they crop ears etc. Anyone with half a brain knows it's just because they want it to look aggressive. But sadly some Americans love that 'power' feeling so it doesn't supprise me.
No-one will agree on this. Today cropping is cosmetic (unless you are a tax collector from WW2...). Cut the shit. Ppl crop for a reason, to make the breed look 'mean'. Kinda dumb seeing as NO original Doberman exist since the end of WW2 (some born without tails so no need to doc.) Doberman(n)'s were doc't to be identified as working dogs, nothing else. So unless you are a tax collector with an ORIGINAL doberman, it's my opinion that you leave them.
Totally untrue. You have no need to doc & crop & you risk infections. Please don't talk to me like I don't know, I've bred them for years. 'Healing capacity' Oh for fucks sake, what next.
@Daized2009 i meant hearing. and think what you want i really dont care what you like or dont thats the way it goes. infection? theres a miracle substance called alcohol for that. breeder huh... i like how you talk about pain when you have a dog giving birth to dozens of puppies just to feed your pocket. nice.
Yeah sure. All my pups / bred are full vet checked & go to pre checked homes. If you want to cut your dog it's up to you. As I'm a member of the PDSA group I'm regulated so I wouldn't have a choice. Even if I wasn't I wouldn't doc or crop.
If you've seen the amount of amature crops I have you may talk a different story.
@Daized2009 oh such human actions there. so i bet youd protest against human breeding too, even if they were all checked by doctors and their homes were pre-checked. and your answer is yes because humans are different. no were fucking animals too. just because we have a higher intellect it doesnt set us apart. p.s. your issue is with the amateur croppers, my issue is your hypocrisy.
@justcallmeflynn SO TRUE!!! Daized2009 how you gonna talk about pain when you make your dog go through birth!! Do you think it doesn't hurt the dog! And do you realize that a mommy dog can only have so many litters before it starts takin a toll on her body!! SO DONT Pull that card with pain, when you breed a dog multiple times!!!
@nikigurl08 enough said. if he who doesnt like ear croppers but is a breeder is a hypocrite. she says she doesnt benefit from the profit. bullshit! if it were that way why dont you stop raping that dog and go volunteer to your nearest dog shelter? i would love to see her being the one that has to give birth to all those babies and having to part with them.
Erm, ok. So breeders cause pain? You must know some dodgy breeders & just incase you forgot a very simple fact, IF IT WASN'T FOR BREEDERS YOU WOULDN'T HAVE A DOG U DUMB SHIT!
Like I said, if it wasn't for REPUTABLE breeders you wouldn't have a dog... There's no similarity between natural birth & ear cropping & doc's. All you yanks say the same bullshit lol.
@Daized2009 That's not the pt your arguement is it hurts the dog but so does breeding dogs multiple times. Have you ever given birth? And given birth is much more dangerous than removing part of the leather. And yea I bought a doberman from a reputable breeder they doc and declaw their puppies and even crop ears. I dont want my dog breakin its tail or gettin ear infections.

Cute doggie, however aren't the ears left a bit too long?

@Alandstormie the doberman is a guard dog, it should look intimidating and the chopped ears helps it hear better.

doberman with cropped ears= a DOBERMAN, its personal preference. if you dont want a dogs ears cropped bc it's 'cruel' then you are most likely a hippocrite since a huge percent would circumcize your baby boys, pierce your baby girls ears, get implants, nose jobs, cut your arm wobble off. if youre against it... DONT DO IT AND SHUT UP!

johnmalory26 6 months ago
@johnmalory26 think of it as getting earings for humans.
Whats the point of it, nothing just to make the ear look cooler.
I love dogs like family, i don't see anything wrong with it.
When parents get there 1year olds ear pierced wouldn't that be considered more cruel?
The same thing, the kid probably doesnt want to get it, and probably doesn't know its gonna happen.
So instead of these people(not u) getting mad at people that do it to there dogs, why not get mad at ppl doing it to there kid
warrcrew 6 months ago
@warrcrew
Ah it's like nose job, now people are doing plastic surgery to animals, like in Hollywood.
Like my uncle says, there's no limit to human stupidity, and you should get your daughter ears piercing when she's old enough to say i want to.
johnmalory26 6 months ago
@johnmalory26 eww plastic surgery for dogs is a stupid thing, i'd do the ears, even the tail, but I'd never reconstruct my dog, thats where it goes a little overboard.
Doing the ears kinda makes sense for the hearing like the other guy was saying below, when i put my hands over my ears slightly i can hear that woooosh noise of the blood flowing, so maybe thats how it is with dogs. (I'm not a proffesional that's just how i think)
and for the tail, i'll admit i see no point.

Pro choice!

@Dogsneedpleasuretoo As I said. Assuming, as usual.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Every injury and scrape exposes a dog to infection, and "vet mistakes" is a rather random thing to worry about. One can SUE a vet for a mistake, clearly. You're digging for excuses since you have no real ones same your emotional preference. I'd also love to see proof dogs experience "Phantom Ears."
You do not get to separate cropping you like and don't like. It is either acceptable or its not. The same for your strange position on neutering, you make little sense.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo 1- Because is painful (ignore pain meds of human quality & strength) and unnecessary (ignore that it is often necessary). You are hurting the dog (ignoring pain meds again) to make it look pretty (assuming vanity while ignoring actual purpose).
2- all of them cruel iillogical reasons (your assumptions yet again... you do this a LOT).
There is plenty of info on docking and its purpose/benefits. If you can't find it, you are TRYING not to find it or didn't try at all.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo You keep asking questions that have been answered, then you continue to assert that your opinion is somehow more valuable and thus more realistically applicable. I'd like to ask a question now.
Why do you think a minor vet procedure is horribly stressful and painful? Spaying/neutering in my experience causes FAR more pain and stress. My female didn't move for 3 days after spaying, but bounced out of the crate after her docking. By your logic spaying is BRUTAL.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo
1- Stupid?
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo My opinion like yours is irrelevant. If an owner finds vet care with pain meds (you talk of pain as if its unmanagable) necessary, that is their business. PC eco-minions calling me a dog hater, cruel, or any of the other things you ASSUME of me does not change that.
There are far more painful & far worse things in the world than a minor surgury being done by a responsible vet, & you've said nothing that leads me to think you should tell anyone what to do with their dogs.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo You clearly missed my point. I train dogs & I've seen 3 dogs with ears ripped clean off during police & sporting events. They usually bleed to death, & they were all breeds that typically crop but weren't. The ear can & does have valid reasons to be cropped (beyond my example), just as docking does. Your OPINION otherwise, as I said, is irrelevant when compared to the facts.
No cat was specifically bred to be cropped, btw.
For dobes, yes, breaking the tail is common.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Pardon me, no cat was specifically bred to be *docked,* from my understanding.
Have you seen a natural doberman tail? Its long, thin, fragile, and they're ridiculously oblivious to smashing it into things. (That is, until its actually broken & they can't move their back legs or walk, & pee all over themselves because it hurts so much.) Many dog breeds are like this, you can look up commonly docked breeds to compare to undocked breeds if it pleases you to do such research.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Our Dobies in uk with tails sure ain't got a long, thin, fragile tails, they have a serious strong bitch of a tail that whips better than any riding crop.

zafeamoon 10 months ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Btw, I would have 1 dog instead of 2 without docking. I rescued a full tail dobe & she broke it 3 times in 1 year. $1200 later we gave our politically correct vet an ultimatum. Take the tail off, or lose all our business forever. They took the tail off, and we thankfully got to keep our dog without being sucked dry.
Or to save her tail you preferred I gave her to our only local shelter, a kill facility?
The only question you should ask is "does she have a good home?"
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Just a question but.. I see alot of posts by you and NON from the person you are bitching at lol.. where are they?
savannahsmom1985 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Your comparison isn't even close. Cropping the ears and docking the tail does not impact mobility or body functions. In fact, they *improve* function, and without mechanical interferance with shiny, pretty wheels. That, and you'd have to prove someone was cropping their dog "because its pretty" to make that less silly a comparison.
Your opinion that it serves no purpose is your opinion. It is not the opinion of others. Or is your opinion just more special? Must be.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@Dogsneedpleasuretoo Stuff your sarcasm. You'd prefer someone crop the ears at home with scissors and no pain meds? This is a proper crop done by a vet, pain meds were used, and you trying to shove your opinion down other peoples throats does the dog no good.
Btw, most dogs undergo very little stress. They're taken home and loved on like babies. I'd also like to know if you're a boy/man, and if you're circumsized.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
Thats a tall crop, they're standing nicely though. I tend to like the middle range, not too tall, not too short. Beautiful dobe.

Having said that, majority of doberman owners do not put their dogs to work, so I can understand why people are against ear cropping.
weaponx20d 1 year ago
Completely cosmetic. No need for this at all. Its a matter of people giving an illusion of "alertness" to attack, or to look "nice". There's no better looks than what they were born with. It simply looks pleasing because thats how we always see them wherever we go.
Jorge007dr 1 year ago
@Jorge007dr It differs person to person what is "pleasing," obviously. The doberman has a history of tall ears, and many dobe owners keep with that tradition. Whether you call it cosmetic or not, many times it does serve a function.
Whether you like cropping or not, its better off for the dogs that it remains legal so that people will take them to vets to have it done with meds. The moment some PC law says "no cropping," you'll get a lot of "home crops" that mutilate dogs with NO pain meds.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Yeah, thats the sad truth. First of all, I know criminalizing it won't do any good, cuz humans always want to do what is not in the best interest. Regardless whether it's legal or not, whether they have a history of it or not, it's still costmetic and completely unecessar.
People seem to miss the origin of that history. It's a tradition that has wrong ideals, so it makes no sense for owners to follow it. And ultimately the function that it serves is clearly, simply unnatural
Jorge007dr 1 year ago
@Jorge007dr What "wrong ideals" are those? The defense of men from criminals and thugs is a "wrong ideal?" I think perhaps you don't even know why dogs were historically cropped, much less why they do it now or if it is unnecessary.
And how can you claim "unnatural" function for a dog that didn't develop naturally in the first place? Doberman didn't pop out of a golden retreiver and a toy poodle with wolf grandparents, they were bred by men for men and mens purposes.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Is a "wrong ideal" because that defense the dogs may serve, will be there whether its ears is cropped or not. You don't understand what unnatural is? Obviously, making it what it truly is not compared to its nature. And you obviously don't have an idea of breeding, because those men breeders you're trying to defend actually had cases of completley throwing away a dog because it didn't come out as the breed was expected.
So whatever breed they wanted, it still doesnt justify.
Jorge007dr 1 year ago
@Jorge007dr Random whining meant to serve in the place of logic. A US Marine tossed a puppy off a cliff, does that mean Marines are monsters? Of course not. Most would sooner adore that dog before brutally murder it.
Btw, thats real dog abuse there. A minor procedure that amounts to less than a human circumcision doesn't even come close. Your determination of natural is vague. I think trimming a coat would come close to being abuse under your personal definition.
Anyway, I'm done here.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Hehe, wow. Whatever you were trying to convey to me with the Marine example, failed because that Marine guy is a irrational idiot. Did I ever say that this guy is dehumanizing or dog abuse. You're evidently blinded if you thought that was what I was calling this owner. The procedure the early dog breeders used to formulate these dogs were not the best ones. The owner of this dog, is doing unnecessary things.Like cosmetic surgery. Understand now? Or do you need 1st grade words?
Jorge007dr 1 year ago
@Jorge007dr Wow... you didn't even understand my reference. Kind of sad that you were so proud of yourself anyway that you thought vapid insults would help you. Classy.
Get back into school. Reading comprehension is vital, man. You're going to be using that later. That is, if you *want* a job.
Like I said, I'm done here. The only arguments anyone can offer against cropping/docking has been their personal dislike of it as usual, which is hardly a reason at all. Buh-bye.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago 2
@DeadlyChinchilla Tsk tsk. Too bad you don't even know what to say anymore. God have mercy on people like you. All actually...

Dogs started out a certain way and over time were bred to look different ways.

Anyway sorry about that lol. If it's any consolation Ive got a hangover from hell :)
Daized2009 1 year ago
@Daized2009 it's alright. i understand
37Amtoads 1 year ago
@Daized2009 Thats funny. My experience at my local dobe rescue is that most people give them up because they got too big, or they couldn't control them well enough. NOT that they weren't "mean" enough. Many dogs came in because they were TOO mean.
But thats here in the US. The UK may be different. Anyway, thats what you get when you illegalize something as small a thing as cropping. People will just self crop at home, usually with no pain meds for the dog. Legal = safer & pain free.

@ChloeMckay1 Shut the fuck up you damn brit.
xBayleeTheKarelian 1 year ago 2
@ChloeMckay1 You have somewhat of a point, I agree that people become more concerned with a dog's looks rather than the personality. But the docking of the tail and cropping of the ears does serve a purpose when a Dobie is a Military/Working Dog. The crop of the ear decreases the risk of ear infection because it creates air flow. It also allows them to hear better as it helpswith pitch. The docking of the tail is because Dobermans are born with a very fragil tail that tends to break easily.
kailuagirl87 1 year ago 23
@ChloeMckay1 But you're probably all for: the MUTILATION of Castration ( cutting off testicles) or Spaying; ( Spaying involves the removal of both the uterus and the ovaries)
HYPOCRIT.....
LOKISlog7 1 year ago
@LOKISlog7
Daized2009 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@Daized2009 Spayed = a female cat or dog who has had both ovaries and uterus surgically removed, and is not capable of producing offspring.
LOKISlog7 1 year ago
@ChloeMckay1 I know this comment is old, but oh well.
Ignorance of Americans? Cocky, arrogant Limey, you mean. You illegalized cropping, and now you have a surge in illegal and PAIN MED FREE croppings done by people at home. In the US people pay good $ to have a proper and pain free crop done by licensed vets. Thats "arrogant" where you come from? Come out of your bubble. Safe and pain free = legal cropping. Some dogs were bred to be cropped, so you can stuff your opinion otherwise.

This in no way a 'pop' at your pup/dog. Looks very happy & healthy. I just have a slight problem with amatures that think cropping is a must to make a dog look menacing. Lovely dog, & nice to see the long crop has taken to taping.
Daized2009 1 year ago
@nikigurl08
Daized2009 1 year ago

What the hell are you on about? A dog is not a rape alarm you fucking idiot.

@nikigurl08
Oh, I know you're female, so no I didn't assume you were male... why would I? You come out with pathetic excuses over & over again, its obvious you're female.
Daized2009 1 year ago
@nikigurl08
Daized2009 1 year ago
@Daized2009 And no even if our Dobermans ears didnt take we just go w a shorter crop so they did take. SO stop makin prejudgements. You dont know me, you dont know y I have a doberman and you dont even know my doberman. Its like your upset because you cant bare to think of anyone responsible cropping their dobermans ears. WELL THEIR ARE TONS OF RESPONSIBLE OWNERS W CROPPED EARS SO GET OVER IT!!
nikigurl08 1 year ago
@Daized2009 So do everyone a favor and stop makin prejudgement of dog owners. YOU live in a country where ear croppin isnt popular, but that does not make your way superior to everyone elses. Your culture is different than the american culture and from other cultures but that does not make it superior or make you right. Its simply what you've been brought up w. So u do what you do, and I'll do what I do and so will everyone else. And if you dont like it TO DAMN BAD!!
nikigurl08 1 year ago
@nikigurl08
Its just amatures like you that make a bad owner.

That's a great ear job! I hope that the ears of my future doberman would be the same. I think I have to search for a good vet before I even start looking for a good dobie breeder.

Sounds like some of you need robots not dogs.
Daized2009 1 year ago
but anyway very cute dog you have by the way...reminds me of when we first got our doberman
mbenzsl2000 1 year ago
cropping is really pointless....though it does depend on your need. We've had two dobies (still have one of em). One had ears cropped, but we felt no need really to get our second one done. If your going to have a dog that will compete or will be working as a guard dog then cropping is necessary...

Doberman Pinscher Breed Standard
Ears - normally cropped and carried erect. The upper attachment of the ear, when held erect, is on a level with the top of the skull.
The Dobie was bred to work as a guardian. Docking/cropping minimizes easily damaged body parts with high blood flow and I challenge those against it to list an award winning Dobie that isn't docked and cropped.

@TribalNight Very few show dobermans do a days work!! No need to cut bits off them to make yourself feel like tough guy!

@GreyBeddie
Finally someone with some sense. It's a shame some people just talk utter bollocks about why they crop ears etc. Anyone with half a brain knows it's just because they want it to look aggressive. But sadly some Americans love that 'power' feeling so it doesn't supprise me.
Daized2009 1 year ago
@TribalNight if all you care about is awards...then crop away ,lol
mbenzsl2000 1 year ago
No-one will agree on this. Today cropping is cosmetic (unless you are a tax collector from WW2...). Cut the shit. Ppl crop for a reason, to make the breed look 'mean'. Kinda dumb seeing as NO original Doberman exist since the end of WW2 (some born without tails so no need to doc.) Doberman(n)'s were doc't to be identified as working dogs, nothing else. So unless you are a tax collector with an ORIGINAL doberman, it's my opinion that you leave them.

@Daized2009 actually cropping a dobermans ears increases their healing capacity

@justcallmeflynn
Totally untrue. You have no need to doc & crop & you risk infections. Please don't talk to me like I don't know, I've bred them for years. 'Healing capacity' Oh for fucks sake, what next.
Daized2009 1 year ago
@Daized2009 i meant hearing. and think what you want i really dont care what you like or dont thats the way it goes. infection? theres a miracle substance called alcohol for that. breeder huh... i like how you talk about pain when you have a dog giving birth to dozens of puppies just to feed your pocket. nice.
justcallmeflynn 1 year ago
@justcallmeflynn
Daized2009 1 year ago
@Daized2009 oh such human actions there. so i bet youd protest against human breeding too, even if they were all checked by doctors and their homes were pre-checked. and your answer is yes because humans are different. no were fucking animals too. just because we have a higher intellect it doesnt set us apart. p.s. your issue is with the amateur croppers, my issue is your hypocrisy.
justcallmeflynn 1 year ago
@justcallmeflynn
Hypocricy? `hmmmm.Think we're not going to agree so lets leave it there.

@justcallmeflynn
line my pockets? lol I make very little as it goes.
Daized2009 1 year ago
@justcallmeflynn SO TRUE!!! Daized2009 how you gonna talk about pain when you make your dog go through birth!! Do you think it doesn't hurt the dog! And do you realize that a mommy dog can only have so many litters before it starts takin a toll on her body!! SO DONT Pull that card with pain, when you breed a dog multiple times!!!
nikigurl08 1 year ago
@nikigurl08 enough said. if he who doesnt like ear croppers but is a breeder is a hypocrite. she says she doesnt benefit from the profit. bullshit! if it were that way why dont you stop raping that dog and go volunteer to your nearest dog shelter? i would love to see her being the one that has to give birth to all those babies and having to part with them.
justcallmeflynn 1 year ago
@justcallmeflynn
Erm, ok. So breeders cause pain? You must know some dodgy breeders & just incase you forgot a very simple fact, IF IT WASN'T FOR BREEDERS YOU WOULDN'T HAVE A DOG U DUMB SHIT!
Daized2009 1 year ago
@nikigurl08
Like I said, if it wasn't for REPUTABLE breeders you wouldn't have a dog... There's no similarity between natural birth & ear cropping & doc's. All you yanks say the same bullshit lol.
Daized2009 1 year ago
@Daized2009 That's not the pt your arguement is it hurts the dog but so does breeding dogs multiple times. Have you ever given birth? And given birth is much more dangerous than removing part of the leather. And yea I bought a doberman from a reputable breeder they doc and declaw their puppies and even crop ears. I dont want my dog breakin its tail or gettin ear infections.
