For months after i came back to America, i asked myself am i really a chinese? In the end, i just realized that there is no point for me to battle between whether I have been white washed or not. Im just going to live the life that i want to live and do the things i want to do.

As long as i live in america, i will be considered as a minority. However, inevitably, b/c i came here at a young age, my thought process is going to be different from the chinese natives.

wow, i felt i can be one of the interviewee for this clip. Like the chinese girl in the video, i was born and raised in tianjin for the first 12 yrs of my life, been living in the State for almost 9 yrs now.

For a period of time, i had identity crisis too, especially when i went back to tianjin in the winter of 05. When i was in china, every1 treated me like a foreigner b/c of the way i spoke and behaved myself, it was just different from the locals. (continued...

I really liked what was said about "not wearing a mask". It helps nowadays to think of myself as a "drifter" - still a foreigner wherever I go, yet somehow free of the mental images signified by "immigrant". I'm no different than the typical college exchange student, other than the fact that I was 6 at the time instead of 18.

When I was 13, some classmates were discussing the current election. Stupidly, I asked what their dads would vote for and got a harsh rebuff.

I wasn't even interested in their families' political view, but rather curious about the choice of parties.

My family never talked about politics, since my parents never had the opportunity to vote.
