  • LOL love it!! Funny as hell! that was what Zappa was all about, having a good time and not give a fuck about what anyone thought about it.

  • He looks just like the lead singer of The Pursuit of Happiness.

  • thank u mike .....u are a master of your craft

  • Bless his cotton socks!

  • OMG! I was fucking blown away when I first heard Steve Vai play to F.Z.'s vocal, but I never imagined someone could do both at the same time.

Dude you rock!! Truly a talent. I am very, very impressed!! Rock on!!

  • fantastic tune !!!

  • Love Mike and all, but what I'd really love to hear / see is less of a literal, Zany, Weird Al (and yes, love Al) cover of this tune, but a mock 60's, "serious" black & white jazz video as if Miles or Monk had originally done this tune. Serious Jazz Cats in suits with Ray-Bans and Italian shoes doing this note-for-note would be transcendent.

  • I have to say this is the definitive version of this tune in my mind. It's a shame Zappa and Mike didn't get more of a chance to play with each other

  • For those that don't know:

    1. Zappa improvised the original vocal onstage

    2. His vocal was transcribed, and master bass player Arthur Barrow learned it

    3. Barrow's bass was mixed with the vocal on the album Man From Utopia

    4. Keneally learned to play it on bass and sing it simultaneously and exactly.

Because that is how badass Mike Keneally is.

  • @ohrwurm Nope. Steve Vai transcribed it and doubled it on an acoustic guitar - not Arthur Barrow on a bass guitar.

  • @Luff2808 Sorry, no. Vai transcribed it. Barrow played it. On bass.

  • @ohrwurm Wrong. watch?v=K9_UAXEA7qg&feature=related from 2:50

  • @ohrwurm but Keneally is clearly not playing a bass in the video ... are you trolling?

  • Comment removed

  • @ohrwurm Wrong. Vai played it on the guitar, learn to recognize the instruments. Vai stated later that some parts of this were the hardest parts he ever played.

  • I love that this older stuff is starting to show up. Hey whoever's got it - keep it coming. Not three/four years ago there was NO decent MK stuff on YouTube... now we have a shiite-load, which is awesome.

Re: the music - I guess this is where the slightly more tame "Beautiful" came from, on the Sluggo! album.

Effing genius to pull it off live.

    C

  • Amazing musicianship! 12 tone?

  • he is playing steve vai's parts perfectly, i wonder if he learned it while he was in steve's band

    this is perfect

  • this is extremely accomplished musicianship

  • "traditional cotton, oh how sweet.".......LOL....this song still cracks me up...phenomenal job

  • Just messin around on Youtube when all of a sudden there's this guy who looks like a cross between Weird Al Yankovic and The Joker doing a PERFECT cover of Frank Zappa's Jazz Discharge Party Hats. RIGHT ON.

  • Phenominal!!! I could not believe this the first time I saw it...

  • One of my favorite songs ever!

  • Wow... maybe you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @ManuelHung hahaha, go kill yourself

  • This is the exact same thing as the dangerous kitchen

  • @DarkJinx257 it's even more the exact same thing as.. the song that it's actually a cover of :/

  • Incredible, I believe this is actually transcribed.. that makes it... INsaNE

  • Just imagine playing and singing his part!!!! IMPOSSIBLE!!!

  • Grow Up ...! ...not Franks finest song in my opinion ... Mike Keneally's guitar playing is beyond question.

  • no wonderd he'd balded himseeeelllffff

  • @bavariansunset the song : total improv.

not the best composition... but soo funny !!

  • Where you looking in the mirror when you wrote that comment?

  • I-I-I just can't believe, you are such a fool.

Why don't you listen to some of Keneally's music and then tell us he's talentless. You think you can shredd??? Your musicianship is not worth the sweat off of my balls.

  • This is probably the strangest yet anoying, yet funny piece of music i´ d ever heard in my intirer life! ? But well done! i would have a hard time doing that :P

  • If you liked this song, try Tom Waits's 'Frank's Wild Years.'

  • Thank you for posting this! Awesome for certain. I've been trying to find a copy of Zappa's Universe forever but now I can enjoy this at work.

  • amazing. I used to practice by singing the notes I was playing and trust me this is crazy hard. Shawn Lane was a god at this type of playing.

  • The original of this song was just Zappa providing dialogue with Steve Vai playing everything Zappa said in unison on his acoustic guitar a feat I deemed impossible to pull off live but Keneally proved me wrong here.

  • Very VERY well done!

The stuff in the bottom was like punching an eclair.

    :)))))))))))

  • talented

  • shit. virtuosity bonanza

  • MIKE RULES!!!

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Put up the whole consert!

  • hey dweezil please call keneally or cuccurullo to play the really hard stuff of frank.... peace!!!

  • uh uh uh - here work these lol

  • virtuosity and hilarity combined in one song.....fantastic

  • It was amazing enough for Vai to track the guitar to a recording of Zappa singing... but to nail BOTH parts LIVE??? True Keneally madness!

  • i love that when he plays inca roads he inserts that quote.

  • Seems as if Zappa is processing some rejection he experienced in high school by the local cheerleaders

  • Toootally. He was the ultimate band geek who became cool as f@#k.

  • HAHAHA WoW!!!! Favourite!
