Which pack was this? I've only ever seen the Slough Creek pack tough enough to take out a bison. Another confirmed bison kill by wolves I heard the hunt took 36 hours. I love bison (and they are delicious) and I love wolves and I love seeing the ecosystem doing its thing. They introduced those wolves from Canada specifically because they were good at hunting Elk as YNP was grossly overpopulated with them. Since we let it get to such an extreme (19K is alot for that ecosystem lets face it) the backlash is equally as extreme, but eventually it will balance itself out to a more stable back and forth cycle.

ya 500 600 years ago there a thousand times many buffalo (bison) and game. one of the reason they introduced wolves into yellowtone was because bison were getting sick and could not survive the winter they thought it was just weak genetics and wolves would strengthen the bison herd by getting rid of the weaker gene turns out its not in there gene pool they get sick from cattle and horses believe it or not . now the wolves are just wiping out the buffalo herd to extinction.

The Buffalo was a Plains Animal he adapted to the mountains only because the Wolf was extinct. Which pack was this? I've only ever seen the Slough Creek pack tough enough to take out a bison. Another confirmed bison kill by wolves I heard the hunt took 36 hours. I love bison (and they are delicious) and I love wolves and I love seeing the ecosystem doing its thing. I say get rid of cattle and bring in the bison they are stronger, leaner and oh so much healthier (to eat, like I said, they are delicious)

They introduced those wolves from Canada specifically because they were good at hunting Elk as YNP was grossly overpopulated with them. Since we let it get to such an extreme (19K is alot for that ecosystem lets face it) the backlash is equally as extreme, but eventually it will balance itself out to a more stable back and forth cycle.

That´s very interesting. If the one adult bison haven´t tried to cross the river, the calf stayed in the circle of adults. And it had survived. The wolves had their fun too, "playing" with the adults. I wish I could know what animals think...

In geographically closed ecosystems such as Coronation Island and Isle Royale, a single large carnivore species decimates its single wild ungulate prey and ultimately destroys itself, allowing the prey to repopulate over time. Yellowstone is a closed system too. The Elk Calves killed by Wolves and Bear were not included in count, if they had been there would have been 3-4 thousand additional. Isle Royale is being used as an example of WHAT NOT TO DO ! Isle Royale is a JOKE - didn't work !!

ya 500 600 years ago there a thousand times many buffalo (bison) and game. one of the reason they introduced wolves into yellowtone was because bison were getting sick and could not survive the winter they thought it was just weak genetics and wolves would strengthen the bison herd by getting rid of the weaker gene turns out its not in there gene pool they get sick from cattle and horses believe it or not . now the wolves are just wiping out the buffalo herd to extinction.

The Buffalo was a Plains Animal he adapted to the mountains only because the Wolf was extinct. Now that the Wolf is back what you are watching is the Extinction of the American Buffalo, there is nothing Natural about it. much less than 24 hours. They'd eat it quickly because of scavengers and birds. Wolves never 'keep' their food once they kill it. They might hang a round a bit, but once they're fed they leave.
