I wouldn't worry too much about The Price Is Right since that was not part of the official Goodson-Todman lease nor was the 94-95 season of Family Feud.
I also wouldn't worry about The Gong Show or The $1.98 Beauty Show since they weren't really "game shows" but more of as just a parody show.
I wouldn't even worry about the shows that did not last beyond the Dark Period because those were very short-lived.
I have many special requests for you about what should and shouldn't be on your schedule.
Get rid of the current Newlywed Game and Baggage since you won't air anymore new episodes.
Also, get rid of reruns of Deal or No Deal, 1 vs. 100, and Family Feud with Richard Karn and John O'Hurley.
Bring back/show more of the classics including the Goodson-Todman shows and those shows owned by Sony as well as Let's Make a Deal, Press Your Luck, and classic Hollywood Squares.
Ok I do like the newlywed game. Lingo needs to bring the lingo board back to the bonus round and chuck needs to come back, bill engvall sounds like drew carrey, more like a talk show host who really could care less about a game show. Really, march 15, 2004 was the ultimate end. BTW, anybody notice how they constantly speed the video up when family feud's on? Drive's me insane. And DANCING WITH THE STARS????? Ok they need to be re-taught the definition of gameshow.
I think of this when my granny, Shirley Blaylock, died (the end of Game Show Network), and the bus started dropping me off at my mom's place (first of the current era). I felt pretty happy after the changeover. :)
I do admite some the original shows they show now are bad like Baggage & Love Triangle, but the New Lingo is fun & the New Newlywed Game is a plus. Also 21 is a good show, so overall not bad. Why not the fans write letters or get the phone number to GSN & ask them reair classic shows like Joker's Wild(Barry & Cullin),Price is Right(Barker in the 70's & 80's) & many other shows.
While letter writing can be effective sometimes, I doubt it would be in this case. GSN is currently in a state of flux (with their programming head having just left), and even if they weren't, I think they (and most channels) think either (A) they know what fans want to see, or (B) they use the "bowl of pasta" theory (throw a show at people and see if it sticks). While some original are fine, you can't have a network of 5-6 shows.
petitions don't work, emails don't work, nothing works, thhe brain dead morons that run GSN are firm in their idiotic resolve.they will keep grinding out crappy original shows, beating reruns of MATCH GAME,CARD SHARKS and FAMILY FEUD into oblivion hoping people will eventually get tired of them so that they can get rid of them and tossing great, old classic b&w and color game shows into the dumper because they just don't care or are too cheap to care. GSN is dead to me,dead,Dead,DEAD!!!!
I was watching GSN one weekday late night from midnight est to 2am est and they had a package of classic game shows called wayback playback and when that first started that they had the classic Passwords b/w and color from 1964-1969 the CBS run then after about a yr they changed wayback playback to have NYSI Narz Then replaced that with Card Sharks Eubanks which is still on wayback playback today I am not to sure if wayback playback is still on GSN any longer it was on from 2007-today
this is EXACTLY when game show network started to suck. I felt gsn had the best mix of each decade (plus new stuff) from 1999 to 04. I miss cram and inquisition for the new gameshows. And i miss all the passwords, card sharks, family feuds, etc
I WANT THE OLD GAME SHOW NETWORK BACK!!!!! IT'S THE NETWORK'S FAULT THAT THEY STOPPED RUNNING ALL WHEEL OF FORTUNE AND JEOPARDY! EPISODES! IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT! I WANT MY WHEEL OF FORTUNE AND JEOPARDY! EPISODES BACK!
I miss the early days of GSN. All those great Goodson-Todman shows, the black and white classics, no stupid reality shows, full closing credits and sponsor plugs. Now it's all poker and reality garbage. Sad.
I wish I had it earlier than I got it (I first got it in late 2000). Then my collection could've been bigger. They really do need to cut down on the poker, though.
@DownsA530 I think they should cut up on Power of 10 (they should put it to strictly weekends; there isn't much to air), Lingo (airs like 5 times every weekday) and Karn's Feud. Strangely, O'Hurley's version doesn't seem to air as much anymore.
One thing I think we should be very happy about is that the Power of 10 now airing on GSN seems to have made them ease up on DOND. I checked the schedule, and on weekdays its like 2 1/2 hours. It doesn't even seem to be on Saturdays anymore.
All good points. On the other hand (I've seen the future schedules on Buzzerblog), the counter is that they're going to fill many of those DOND slots with the new shows, and they risk overexposure by doing so. That could cause viewers to tune them out.
And about the Feud; I maintain Karn has some compromising photos of GSN personnel. :-D
Another thing cool from around 2006 or so was That '70s Hour, in which they'd show classic Match Game episodes with present-day comments from Gene and they'd AIR THE SLATES.
As abrupt an ending for such a great thing as Game Show Network was to us, some of the new GSN originals and rerun acquisitions weren't all that bad. They actually introduced me to The Mole, and the World Series of Blackjack was always very entertaining. I'd prefer Blackjack to poker any time. Also, and I know I'm pretty much one of nobody in saying this, but Kenny vs. Spenny was hilarious to me.
While I don't watch those kinds of card games (I like Card Sharks, but actual card games bore me), I can see why others like them, and I can tolerate that (and I did enjoy a few episodes of Kenny & Spenny). It's just that they have tended to overdue the clunkers' exposure. And when they fail, they fail spectacularly. Hopefully, with the new stuff, the variety will return somewhat.
You're welcome, I've stopped watching it lately because there's hardly no classics on there at all, I enjoy your channel much better with original commercials.
This video is so sad. It wasn't necessarily the end of Classics on the network, but it was certainly going in that direction... The fun of the network went out the window when the reality obsessed trashy shows started appearing on the network. And notice how many failed reality shows have aired since! I'm watching some of my tapes I recorded from 2004, and noticed all the promos for these shows like Dog eat Dog, and that Horse Racing reality show... How sad...
Admittedly, I was probably a little harsh about the direction of the network initially. You do make good points about the decisions in programming since. Two of my least favs were How Much is Enough? and Without Prejudice (that plagues the end of almost every episode of the Wheel episodes aired during the Merv Griffin tribute).
@DownsA530 What is wrong with a network airing game shows? It's almost as if this network decided to toss us aside to make room for new, apparently, younger viewers, and each time they failed, they then tried to draw us back again with a few classics here and there, and then drop them again for more reality shows. That worked in the past, but I think people had enough and a lot of the Classic viewers never came back. And based on these Drew crunches, it doesn't look half as funny as Whose Line.
Yeah; the yo-yo scheduling hasn't helped their cause. I usually wait to pass judgment on new shows, but while I agree with you that Drew's show probably won't match Whose Line, it's still something different (i.e. not another relationship show), hence my (pre-viewing) opinion.
@DownsA530 Yeah, for sure I'll watch it atleast once. I did the same for every other show that has premiered on this network. I even gave Wink's show a few tries, but it just didn't draw me in, it was kind of boring. The recent episodes of The Newlywed Game and Baggage aren't all that bad. I don't generally watch those shows, but my parents seem to like them. I probably wouldn't be so upset with this schedule if we were given a bit more variety in the schedule. Like they tried a few years back.
You're right, GSN is a BIG nightmare now, I'm tired of all these non hosts who shouldn't even be there at the network, even GSN Live has been ruined since the bad hosts took over, it was good in 2008 unti the summer, the only classics left are "Family Feud" (Dawson), "Card Sharks" (CBS and NBC), "The $25,000 Pyramid", and "Match Game" (Rayburn) that's it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
