  • FUCK BIEBER.

  • Amazing Voice

  • Matchless

  • Beautiful!

  • Frank Sanatra and Patti Labelle's version is incredible

  • Ahhhhh Ella.......I miss you...... I will love you forever.

No one is a patch on you.

    Thank you for the posting.

  • Who could sing like Ella today?-no one.

One of the greatest singers ever.

  • Look at the artistry, the class, and the musicianship. Now look at the monsters who call themselves 'rappers.' Case closed, your honor.

  • @ThatHistoryGuy Gotta agree with you there. But it isn't just rap music. Popular music across the board has hit an all time low. If you're not model gorgeous, model thin or willing to look like a cheap hooker, who cares what kind of talent you've got.

    What a world...

  • 2 people were a little bewitched, bothered and bewildered by this!

  • ella is the shit.

  • SHE IS THE STANDARD!!! Non Pareil!!

  • American English sounds best in her voice.

  • She is fantastic

  • Lovely song. My band played an arrangement of this last week.

I'd love to know what people think of it. (I've made it a video response)

  • I was just asked to keep this music down...what has this world come to?

  • her anticipation and phrasing is perfection.

  • well, i am preparing a song and leaning toward this one...love the sound quality! and love the song

  • Another absolutely beautiful rendition of a very romantic song.

  • wow... one of the best ever...

  • I wish we still had singers like this today.

  • divine

  • the best female vocalist in history!

  • I love Ella, but I prefer Barbra's version of this.

  • Fine Song Ella!

    Thanks for Posting!

    Aloha from Hawaii!

  • She also say It's De-lovely I love that song and this one.

  • This song makes one cry! So beautifully sung by Ella Fitzgerald, the First Lady of Song. I have taught voice for more than forty years and it is sometimes a thankless job because to sing properly takes practice and work that most are not willing to do. I have had them sign up with me and then complain about what I am teaching them. I studied with an opera teacher and with Gene Puerling of the Hi-Lo's for a short time. I also was taught by a great singer, Bob Jackson about phrasing.

  • Thanks for posting this superb video....One of the very best is Queen Ella, I love her.

  • The term "voice" was coined for Ella! First lady of Song forever...

  • Idol contestants take note!

  • She changed the lyrics! I thought the line was "yearn for the trousers that cling to him.." probably too sexual and suggestive for TV at the time.

  • @jonwiley shame they dont have any sort of censoring in the media anymore, kids are exposed to all sorts...

  • @sweetbutdaring I know. the curse of reality TV has made the world a much more vulgar place. But I'm on the fence when it comes to censorship.. i mean, who's to say what's objectionable or not?

  • @jonwiley There are LIMITS. After all, people can let their kids watch whatever in their own homes. We don't need all kinds of stuff all over tv/radio etc. though.

  • Comment removed

  • @ashantifan1224 all kinds of stuff? The song is for adults, not children. "Trousers that cling to a man" is still an alluring bit of imagery, I say.

  • @jonwiley i was surprised when i first heard this song. it's beautiful, but it's about sex. i just didn't think they talked about this back then, at least not in public

  • @jonwiley There's a few line changes in this version - the one you noted and the 'when love came and told me I shouldn't sleep' should actually be 'until I sleep where I shouldn't sleep' - And yup - too suggestive for the times!

  • Absolutely love Ella's delicious phrasing with this song ......hmmm....

  • voice like an english horn, so swella, ella

  • What a pity this is the Bowdlerized version.

  • It is a beautiful simplicity!

  • I'm a big Ella fan, but I love Streisand's take on this song. She seems to rind a lot of nuance in it....but both are amazing talents.

  • @billyboylb Babs's take is some of the most sensitive singing I've ever seen/heard. Exquisite. But this is fun, too :)

  • A song and performance that transcends genre... it's not my usual style of music, but so perfect it doesn't matter

  • So beautiful... I can't get enough of Ella ... and the song!!! Ohhh the song!!! Thank you for posting this... :)

  • what year is this?

  • Ella is a Goddess! She still lives.

  • I'm singing this song for a show I have Sunday, and by far this is my favorite version and my inspiration for my performance. It's so sincere, other people tend to make it more dramatic than it should, but Ella honestly tells a story of a man bewildering her.

  • a true Diva of her time !

  • she is a goddess. and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever

  • Adorable music...it's a pity that nowadays american (and generally whole Western) music is just a pice of shit....black and white "artists" can't sing at all, there is only domination of vulgar , agressive, and hedonistic hip-hop, pop or rock....thanks God that we have youtube...

  • i so agree

  • Love this version together with Doris Day's. The voice is so crystal clear.

  • i love her

  • An artform that is almost lost but still being studied and practiced by a devote few. Let this music live on!

  • @MattieSongbird

Yes a stunning singer that is the best I have ever heard - we now have Adele and hope she can do a cover or two

  • This is real music real singing. Not like much of the garbage we have today.

  • So damn true!

  • @griffy2007 Today is all practically about shaking it and degrading genres... it sucks...

  • @griffy2007 Oh come on, there's always been garbage. You need to get out there and hunt down the good contemporary stuff.

  • @JoeCaliforniah Are you serious right now? You look like such a joke using the n word. GROW UP and get over yourself. lol

  • @griffy2007 Even tho the garbage music is my age and i like some of it, I agree.

  • Old jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin-you can never find anyone like them. It's a shame that slow jazz like this is a little lost.

  • Listen "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" of Stacey Kent.

  • I adore Ella's long LP version of this song, which would be rated PG, for sure. She's loving' the trousers that cling to him.

  • WOW. amazing voice. Doris days version is also lovely

  • i've never and would never find a singer that have a beautifull voice like ella fitzgerald.. no one will be able compared to her

  • one of the greatest singers to ever live

  • the lyrics of this song....are exactly the effect my girlfriend has had on me...

  • What a Beautiful Song What a Beautiful Voice! Love!

  • shes absolutly wonderful

  • This is taken from Nat King Cole show.Ella in fine voice.Norman Granz the great record producer allowed his stable of artist to come on Nat's show.Nat was having problems getting commercial backing,so many artist would appear for no fee.

  • I keep forgetting how much I adore this song

  • This is real music, what happened to it?

  • wonderful

  • Have a go at the stunning Jussi Bjorling with Price singing The Pearl Fishers.

    Ta

  • Sorry did mean Merrill

  • She has been on of this persons who stood for America since I remember and today this singing fools are nothing anymore only warm limonade ....

Where are the great singers today ?

The recordlabels are the killers only running after money and marketings ....

Ok there are few still on earth:

    Jessye Norman

    Barbara Streisand

    Bob Dylan

    Liza Minelli

    Leontyne Price

and some more - "old" - but the youngsters are old boring and suitible for the managers not for heartlistening voicelovers....

  • You took the words right out of my mouth, they just don't make music like this anymore

  • bob dylan is only a shell of what he once was, its his son jacob dylan thats carried on the legacy

  • YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND!!! 'The Wallflowers' were so hacky and forgettable. Do you really believe they'll be playing that cornball bar band's music 40 years from now with and it'll have the same historical musical relevance and power of Bob Dylan's music? And didn't 'The Wallflowers' do that godawful theme song to the TV show 'Friends'? As crappy as music is today, I'm eternally grateful that the 'Wallflowers' are pretty much a forgotten band. AMEN!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The Wallflowers didn't do the "Friends" theme song. That was the Remembrandts.

Although I don't agree with the previous post about Dylan Sr. being a shell of himself, I HAVE to disagree with your assessment of the younger Dylan. Jakob's done a fine job as a songwriter, with a few hit songs and a Grammy to his name. And the Wallflowers are still together. Their 'best of' disc was released last week and they are currently on tour. They played the Fillmore in NYC earlier this month.

  • "Best Of" albums are always a sign of the death of a band. "The Rembrandts" and "The Wallflowers" are the same band. They may have different members, but they make same tired, unoriginal, poppy, garbage. Just my opinion. I'm a snob.

  • Yes. You are.

  • This song is so beautiful, it reminds me of "Hanna and her sisters"

  • Adorable and superb - singing do not get better!

  • My dad and I rock out to this song. As much as you can rock out to it, anyway.

  • From UK - DO IT GET BETTER THAN THIS!

Perfect singing by a stunning woman - makes me shed a few tears.

Have a go at the Pearl Fishers with the stunning Jussi Bjorling.

    Enjoy

  • I love you Ella. Always & Forever.

  • ...sutil terciopelo para el alma....

  • Ella is my heaven....

  • before i was born XD

  • I love this song, and by Ella, it just has to be my favorite version of all!! Thanks much for this gem of a clip.

  • i absolutley loe this song and im under 15 (i no !!!)i love this song to bits.

    what a voice.

  • well you're not the only one:D I love ella and nina simone...great artists....

  • Ahhh....listening to her makes me think of this utterly beautiful girl I met yesterday. I kissed her overlooking the ocean on Granville Island and she is a jazz singer and sang a song on the fly about how I made her weak in the knees and it was a perfect night and this song perfectly describes that.

  • Ahhh Ella.... what more is there to say.

  • Whenever i hear a song i drift away into a beatiful fantasy... A world of beauty and birds singing, perching on a near by branch, passion and love, colour and life... And I alaways get a shiver down my spine and occasionally a teardrop in my eye... The sun as sharp as a knife but as light as a feather...The light of day and the dark of night... Movement of the tree's and the stillness of the mirky water...drifting away...drifting away...drifting away this is where i go...

    Ahhh.lovely.i luv it...x

  • gorgeous voice

  • and that is how you sing a song. love it

  • I would have killed to hear her sing live

  • please no threats

  • some of the greatest joy i had was seeing her sing in concert when i was in college and law school

  • She sings this the best of all.

  • i totally agree but i remember Sinead O'connor did a really good version too and I can't find it anywhere grrrr!

  • Ella could never have guessed that decades later we would be watching her performance today, bringing her talent to a whole new generation

  • i think she didn't care, which is why she is awesome.

  • everytime I hear this song I just get lost in a fantasy world of warm summer meadows with a nearby crystal clear brook trickling away past flowing weeping willows while fuzzy dandelions leisurely float upwards into the ocean blue sky...sigh

    everytime.

  • sounds like you need a kiss!!!!

  • I can't seem to find Catalina's version of this song!!

  • Yeah love this classic, but have a listen to Silje Nergaard singing it... It will never replace what Ella did, but it still gives goosies lol

  • great recording!!! i love her voice SO much :)

  • My favorite song

  • WOW!! I just perfomed this song last weekend!!! I'm glad that people like Ella pave the way for newcomers like me!! I recieved a standing ovation!!!

  • nice...jazzy. linda ronstadt belted this song on her live. watch

  • What a talent!!! God given gift!!

  • I love her! she has a lovely voice

  • Couldn't sleep... and wouldn't sleep...

  • Perfection!
