@iheartryanstyles More like CTV acquires Hockey Night in Canada and then we can go back listening to The Hockey Theme every Saturday night.... just on a different network.
They weren't to cheep to buy it they just couldn't afford to spend their whole buget on one song even though hnic is't the same with out it don't be mad at CBC be mad at stupid amarican owned tsn and their unrelenting greed for something wholy canadain and what about who owns the copyrights to the song yell at her for betraying her country by selling out to big American controled companys sham on her I don't think the differace in price is so signifagent that you sell out
@stupidusername84 That's because they've realised that they can't just sweep the good old theme under the rug along with all the memories of growing up with that theme every single week. At the beginning of this season, they were touting the theme like crazy, had players come on talk about it and everything.
People love it and identify it song with HNIC. The new one is just bagpipes and crossed fingers. And it can't and won't overshadow the original.
@stupidusername84 At the same time though, the CBC has been undergoing major revenue cuts. Good ol' Steve from Calgary Southwest doesn't like the CBC (government subsidies screws up the free market, bro), so they've had to downsize a heck of a lot, leading to the Olympic contracts, the CFL broadcasts, et al. heading to CTV as well, not to mention the reduced news presence.
Although, if the CBC would stop putting crap on... (Wild Roses, Steve & Chris, Little Mosque, Insecurity-the list goes on.)
@BKAllmighty Ya it's because TSN uses a different arrangement which sounds more jazzy. This rendition was used throughout the 90s and it still my favorite.
I miss this theme....

Actually ESPN only owns a fifth of TSN; with CTV I think owning 80 percent of TSN and RDS

The new theme contract expires this year so maybe the Great Hockey theme will be back on the CBC Airwaves.
carcake3 10 months ago
@carcake3 don't think so because tsn bought the rights for 100 years

@geebus023 Really 100 Years?
carcake3 10 months ago
@geebus023 TSN bought the rights to the theme outright.

Noticed how HNIC has been crap overall since they lost this song? It's just they've just given up.

@Inquisitive0Minds Exactly. It's an anthem to us. I just can't believe they would let it go over money.

True... I still don't like that!!

The Hockey Theme must belong to Hockey Night in Canada!
Like Monday Night Football (in the US) and its theme song, the Hockey Theme and Hockey Night in Canada go together.

I miss this so damn much. Almost brings tears to my eyes.

It's sacrilege that "the second anthem" is on TSN!!
joshyboy1983 1 year ago
yeah I know, but the sound is so different. It dosen't feel the same to me. Plus it hurts to see TSN paired with the theme.

Although i really love the new theme, i miss seeing this before every game so much!
It really sends shivers down your spine.

Watch a game on TSN and you can hear this theme any day. On second thought it still isn't quite the same.
