Well these unit were the hardest to maintain do to the body design. If you took the sides off an F7 the whole body would fall apart which made it hard for the shop crews to do any repairs on them. But still it's nice to see the Car body units still in action...
I just took a closer look. Sad to see the severe rust.out, though of course this classic unit is over 50 years old with plenty of running time in the snow. Even though it's mild steel, repairing and replacing these sections today would be an expensive undertaking.
Alot of body rot on that Awesome F7 and your right the paint scheme is beautiful. Over here in the north th ebest museum is the B&o museum in Baltimore they have loads of vintage equipment.
Put that on the Milwaukee for letting it get all rusty like that. Them and Rock Island were pretty strapped for cash in the last days and the locomtives got pretty scrubby looking as a result.
Great lookin F unit. This really is one of the best museums in the US. Tons of stuff to see, plus interurbans scurrying all over the place. Loved the South Shore little joe. WIll definitely return.
Yes, kmillard you're right. Similar to the A-200s on old the GG1s. The honkers on the surviving Western Pacific F-unit that's running are in need of a tune up as the diaphrams sound a bit "hoarse" .

EMD F unit with a classic "honk" horn.
Sweet!

It's called a Leslie A200-156 air horn. The Western Pacific F7's had them too.

A Milwaukee Road 1948 scheme FM Erie Built would be even better; but there's no FM survivors in the US.
