I beg to differ. I did this glitch by myself.

I placed both Fox and Falco's controllers on a table and held my index finger and thumb on the shield button (its been a while since I played this game) and with the other hand

shot the scope on Ness's controller. When that was done, I switched Ness's controller with Peach's controller and began firing turnips.

My friend and I were able to easily do it by using one controller per hand, but you can also do it by yourself pretty easily, as you described. By stating that "you can do the glitch with only two people actually in the room", we meant that it did not require MORE than two people, but you can certainly do it with 1, 2, 3 or 4 people present.
