I'm not that worried about this Center/ Mosque being a potential problem. NYC has one of the best anti-terrorist task units in the world. They are very diligent. If this center turned out to be some sort of issue, I am sure they would deal with it quite swiftly.

It's about whether to like or dislike the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, the one that gives everyone the right to worship or not worship as they please. All others are cults including Atheism which can also be banned.

I think that the mainstream media has failed everyone at this point. When I first heard of this, I bought into it as well. Later I found out differently. Pat probably heard the same thing as alot of us did, and believed it. Although I know there are good muslims, (I have met some that I really liked) there definitely is that element in Europe that are very militant, and want to take over. These people are what give the rest of them a bad name.
It is definitely their right....they did what they legally had to to make it happen and they should be able to build it, but they KNOW they are pushing buttons.
It comes down to "just because you can, doesnt mean you do"........its a fairy tale if you think there is no malicious intent. This project's plan is hurt people that have already lost so much.

One city block is roughly 264 feet. It is 2.5 blocks but one of those is an extra long block so let's call that 3 blocks. That's 792 feet. Divide that by 3 gets you 264 yards.

I am against this mosque, in the end, it really won't matter one way or another if it is built or not. As far as bringing economic boost to the area, I can think of much better ways to boost that.

I'm not that worried about this Center/ Mosque being a potential problem. NYC has one of the best anti-terrorist task units in the world. They are very diligent. If this center turned out to be some sort of issue, I am sure they would deal with it quite swiftly.

Whilst there are moderate muslims Islam, in my opinion does not have much of a track record of listening to them and in fact most of the so called moderate spokesmen, and lets face it they are all men, make fairly unpleasant statements and refuse to condemn what in western culture are recognisably moderate positions.

It's not about whether to like or dislike the Islamic center. It's about whether to like or dislike the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, the one that gives everyone the right to worship or not worship as they please. Many Christians are trying to declare Islam not a religion so that it can be banned. The idea being that the 1st amendment only applies to Christianity. All others are cults including Atheism which can also be banned.

Islam as practiced in many places does not allow religious freedom, Saudi, Iran, Turkey, Maldives death for apostates etc. I do not believe accepting death for apostates, homosexuals etc is liberal. I do not wish to see muslims suffer. Currently muslims demand rights they do not extend to non-muslims and there is no incentive to change. Islam needs a reformation not a mosque.

I think that the mainstream media has failed everyone at this point. When I first heard of this, I bought into it as well. Later I found out differently. Pat probably heard the same thing as alot of us did, and believed it. Although I know there are good muslims, (I have met some that I really liked) there definitely is that element in Europe that are very militant, and want to take over. These people are what give the rest of them a bad name.

And the guy in charge of the whole thing is a moderate Muslim who was the poster child for the Bush administration, an administration that worked with him a great deal as an ambassador of peace, so to speak.

The point is, that it is, quite frankly, just bad taste by the people behind the construction of this "Muslim Community Center" to have it so close to location of such a horrific event caused by their Paradise bound brothers. The underlying message is one of conquest, not peace.
Anyone that doesnt take this into account is in denial. I dont agree with everything Pat Condell says, but he is bright, articulate and his countrymen went through similar circumstances with the London Mosque.

But this new project is an act of provocation, not a "warm and fuzzy we want to be friends" type of project. Try Googling "New Church to be built in (pick your favorite Muslim country)" and see what you get.

Excellent video. But can anyone help? What's the statement at 2:07? The mock headline in the New York Post. "An owl unit looked like Elvis knocked y'up" is the best I can get. The sound's not good, and I'm not tuned in, so I'm missing the joke. Incidentally, what's the accent? Seems slightly out of place. Hard to tell from London, we're a bit insular.

Sorry about the sound on this one; that's a noisy area. I'm trying to be a bit more choosy about where I film in the city and the sound levels in the area.
At present, it looks like the project may be held up because the city may declare the building a historical landmark. We shall see what happens.

I am just frustrated that racism from Muslims is being played down by the British television media. Attacks against Jews by Muslims is generally ignored. It pisses me off. @PostITnoteGUY I don't know if there are any immigrants among them, but yeah they are. But opinions of american muslims aren't so far away from the opinions of muslims in places such as Iran or Iraq (the two are named because they have the most islamic sects between them).
Also, I don't want any religion to exist, so that's part of it. Though I'm for them building their mosque because its their property.

@PostITnoteGUY Yes, a literal reading of the Bible shows it to be as bad as Islam. But while the Bible contains those beliefs, there are enough Christians about who don't interpret the Bible literally. Even the YECs (well, most of them) usually don't support stoning errant children to death.
I would and do discriminate against any organization which seeks to abrogate modern human rights. This stance might be wrong, but at least I'm open to persuasion...

Did you know that there are more Mosques in London than there are christian churches. I completely agree. It bothers me that any mosque is built in america, when they wouldn't want religious freedom in their own country for the most part. So why should be give them religious liberty? Because we shouldn't sink to their level. We also don't need to sacrifice property rights just because it is many blocks away from the trades center, no matter how much I or anyone dislikes the idea.
