I cant explain though that a part of me does not want to believe global warming, maybe for this reason. Im a rational person and I do now believe we are making a difference but I am still skeptical on how large this difference is. Well, im still swaying towards global warming being propaganda. Its essential to note that looking back over even the last million years is not enough. Look as far back as possible over the ice ages, the earth constantly fluctuates between warm and cool and considering that, we are actually in a "cool" faze right now. There is also no reason not to consider that IF we are warming up this might actually be a good thing. Times of higher temperatures have been very plentiful. Change is inevitable.

But the question of whether or not it is anthropogenic is critically important - the method by which we are attempting to manage the risks of climate change (reducing carbon emissions) assume that it IS anthropogenic (whether or not this assumption is supported by evidence). If this assumption is wrong, we're all screwed anyway. We'd be better off trying to deal with the EFFECTS of climate change rather than trying to prevent it.

The main issue for me, that I cannot find a decent debate for, is the idea that world governments can action a huge shift in economic structure (which could potential cause dire restrictions on the developing world) based on industry risk management. Although the pro climate change people in this documentary do end up with a compelling argument, which is that the risk is just too great to ignore; it does concern me that the ABC did you chose a moderator who was neutral on the issue. This is a major flaw because it pushes the idea that there are special interests at hand that are working towards pushing the climate change agenda. The hockey stick graph is actually an important page in the book that is the global warming debate. For years it was the poster child of the IPCC, and when it was discredited it was not thrown out as it should have been; it was quietly swept under the carpet the IPCC. The graph basically went against any and all previous research in the field, ignoring the medieval warm period, and the little ice age. It was composed of unreliable data sources like tree ring studies and coral studies.

Two statisticians, McKitrick and McIntyre took a look at the model and found a huge number of discrepancies that to me just sound completely dishonest on the part of the author, Mann. Well he was bringing up some studies that suggest that coal deposits have a significant C14 content. C14, if you weren't aware, is a carbon isotope that has a relatively short half-life. This means that really, really old deposits (like coal deposits) shouldn't have any significant C14. C14 found in coal might mean that it was deposited a lot more recently than we had thought. I think the question was thrown out because it doesn't seem all that relevant.

Instead of just preventing individuals with genetic defects (downs syndrome) or serious injurys (brain damage) who can't take care of their offspring they included other races and killed them.

Read Mark Steyn's book "America Alone" or at least the synopsis of it.

You will see that Europe will die as we know it. Industrialized nations are not having babies at the same rate as poor nations. Your children will live in a different world that is not what you hope it will be. Demographics will win over policy every time. Moral of the story is "have babies or die as a culture."

Better to encourage others to come to the same realisation, provide birth control to those areas that are breeding like mad instead of deigning them it due to personal religious belief. Several of them were actual questions though they were dismissed by the host. Asking for a panel's comments on an idea presented is exactly how the audience portion of any debate is supposed to go. Also, the origins of the environmental movement and their underlying philosophies are quite important in this discussion. And any "concerned citizen" who doesn't care whether or not we have accurately determined the causes is going to find governments forcing ineffective solutions.

Have to agree with a1113725 about the audience making idiots of themselves. Also had to notice though, how the critics (second from the left and the gentleman on the far right for instance) were many times cut short on their statements, as if the show's narrator was actually biased himself.
