I remember the 80's body buliding era. It was my first exposure to body builders and their routines. Rich Gaspari would always place 2nd to Lee Hany in Mr. Olympias. Seeing him posing in this clip, there are definitely weak points like his triceps and back mass that kept him from the Olympia title. Nevertheless, these were the body building golden times compared to steriod-packed competitions of today.

'87 Gaspari for me is the epitome of bodybuilding. Every group looks so good on him. He's well built (for a bodybuilder), symetrical, ripped...everything you can ask for. Then came along Dorian Yates with his "imma pull this tractor" physique and fucked up bodybuilding. These niggas today look like something out of the slaughterhouse. "Too small" my ass. For someone who was a professional (and only focused on bodybuilding) he at least looks "human".
IMO Lee Haney nvr had worthy competition until Yates arrived. Both Labrada and Gaspari were quality bodybuilders but they were too small to challenge Haney
He was advised he looked too blocky this show, so the next year he came in lighter with a tighter waist. I agree though he looked best here. Every bodybuilder peaks, Arnie, Dorian, Ronnie
i saw him 1 day after this clip at the german Grand Prix in Essen (Grugahalle), where he place again 2nd behind the great Lee Haney. Gaspari was the crowd favorite that day.

The mistake the judges made this year was that they got the wrong Lee in 1st place!

2. Rich Gaspari
3. Lee Haney
4. Mike Christian

Well...that's my opinion. Anyway, Rich looked great as always. He truly is one of the top 3 bodybuilders of that era and one of the top 10 - 20 guys of all time. He made the most of limited genetics through proper nutrition and tenacious hard work.

Haney should have placed second in all of these years except 86...that year he should have placed 3rd behind Fox.
I give Haney 3rd in 84, behind Makkaway and Wilkosz. And I'd say he deserved 1st in 85 and 91 with 91 being his best year (he finally grew arms). Making Haney tied with Labrada and one behind Rich, in my book.
He was good but definitely he had a few weak spots like his chest hamstrings and when doing the most muscular pose he looked narrow ,but still i admire him because he had the heart og a lion

Way better than Haney. Rich should have won in 86, 87 & 88. Labrada should have won in 89 & 90.
Haney should have placed second in all of these years except 86...that year he should have placed 3rd behind Fox.
I give Haney 3rd in 84, behind Makkaway and Wilkosz. And I'd say he deserved 1st in 85 and 91 with 91 being his best year (he finally grew arms). Making Haney tied with Labrada and one behind Rich, in my book.
