  • What a joy to listen to Norman and the Wiener Philharmoniker! Let's not forget Wagner either who composed this fantastic, purely romantic aria! Gorgeous, simply perfect!
  • About Madame Norman's singing, we reach another dimension, beyond reality and imagination.

  • Awesome.

  • A force of nature ... what a spellbinding and beautiful experience. I feel more joy in life for seeing and hearing this incredible performance.

  • LO TENGO QUE VER TODOS LOS DIAS .....DIOS QUE BELLEZA!!

  • is an awesome video, a great rendition is sublime,!!

  • Karajan died in 1989 and this video released in 2005 ... QED

  • Beautiful-but it looks like she is lip syncing to an earlier version of the aria.

  • beautiful~~~

  • Listen to the beauty and purity of this voice, I can only think one thing: GOD.

  • Perfect and beautiful!

  • this was so PERFCET

  • Musical perfection

  • perfect & beautiful

  • perfect!

  • Jessye Norman is a gift to us all. A perfect Isolde......MAGNIFICENT!

  • i cried, that was so beautiful

  • This video is cruel and unusual, chopping off the last 15 seconds of music, of the resolution.

  • Great Video, but.......couldn't we have the extra 20 sec.? And have Jessye burn up?

  • her voice is so massive and beautiful

  • @JessyeNormanVEVO, I love you. I love your music interpretation. You are a great ópera singer.

  • 5:00 is probably the most beutiful thing everwritten anywhere in the world. don't skip straight to it, though. You have to listen to the whole thing.

  • @witness124 Witness124. Truly gorgeous. Brings tears to my eyes. Last notes are devastating.

  • Jessye Norman and Leontyne Price are my idols i pray with all my heart to be half as good as them and i would be content with my life. god bless their voices

  • where's the last chord? i can't move on.

  • @woahmcgee Ah, well, that's jus the thing, isn't it? Tristan und Isolde is so moving because wagner's music pictures their relationship perfectly. Their love together is unrequited, and so the cadence is imperfect. I was surprised to hear no timpani roll at the end of that.

  • @witness124 NO. IT HAS TO BE...IT'S...INCOMPLETE. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My life is over.

There is a part in this opera where the cadence should be perfect, and it's imperfect, though. I have the score for this, perhaps I was looking at the wrong bit.

  • amazing

  • inconmensurable.

  • incomensurable.

  • Cut out the last chord, though. :(

  • @Lesolin Yes! the best part. Have you watched Jessye Norman performing Liebestod with von Karajan conducting. It is magnificent. Two of the greatest artists.

  • @Lesolin That's how it's supposed to be. There is no resolution to the progression. Is there?

  • @witness124 Heh, no, for the sake of production (I guess), they truncated the final chord in this video. The chord repeats a couple of more times while the oboe holds the third through silence. It's quite beautiful. Look for other version on youtube to see what I mean.

And actually the last chord is the resolution (the only musical resolution of the entire opera, of course!).
