@qiovanni yes, in the original version the father was a tailor, and the singer's sweetheart was a drunkard or gambler or gambling man. I kind of liked the idea, so not to sing it as a woman, of changing it to say my father was a tailor, a respectable profession, and me I'm just a gambler.
