jaa, actually what u and im sure most westerners dont know is that a huge majority of east germans want their country back and 57% want the wall back as of 2007, and the number still rises. u try living as an east german does today and then ask me the same question. westerners dont know shit bout life in the east, any russian will tell u that too.

Half my family is from Poland and fled in the late 80s. All they can tell me about these times, is horrible. I think everybody can be happy things went that way. Of course it means problems for the people in former East, but that is not the fault of reunification, but of the lack of structure during socialist times.

yes because they were traitors, and if u were a traitor or a dissident ur life was not too good and if you were bad enough, but rightly so. i like reunification, butttt under socialism. no doubt germany should have been reunited like korea shold and vietnam was, but in a very different manner. it was far worse than what was done in russia or anywhere else after the end. there was no lack of structure during socialist times, on the contrary everything was set up stronger than anywhere else.

actually capitialism is also based on an idea. im an economist and youd know this if u took any econ or banking class. im not sure what u are referring to as far as "unstructured". do u mean economically or infrastructure and stability? infrastructure and stability was far better in the east compared to anywhere in the world, if ur talking economically, the west has just an artificial economic system. money is very relative and has no actual value except for what pple accept it as.

As for the Trabi: Of course it was sought after in the east (I have lived with several people from former eastern block, they all had one... after 15 years of waaiting for production, that is)). That is because it was the only crap this false system could come up with.

Interesting video. I can image why the Ossies, especially the young ones, feel left in the cold and insecure of their future.

Eight years later the PDS is quite successful and other for Ossies are in politics, most famously Angela Merkel of course.
