Your setup threw me off, alot different than what we have in America. But everything is there in an ingenious way. I particularly like the way you used the sink hardlined with pumps/heat exchangers/counterflow chiller, just amazing. I'm jealous mabye one day Ill be able to be on your level. Congrats!!!
That's simply awesome! I wasn't super clear on how you had that freezer set up to pump cold water into counter flow chiller. Did you just set the freezer temp just above freezing and pump it through? What was it you put in the water to keep it from going foul? Thanks for sharing this with us, I really appreciate it!
@tlgrimmy I didn't add anything extra to the water, I just keep the freezer cold (set to zero C) or leave it empty if I am not brewing for a while. I do have a little pond pump recirculating in it to stop ice sheets forming. If you were to keep it full and warm between brews you could add some iodophor to stop it going rank. Or you could just let it go a little rank as there is no contact with the brew.
@tlgrimmy One think I forgot. Yes, there is a cheap automatic pressure pump connected to the freezer to pump the water through the counterflow chiller.
I am pretty happy with it. Unfortunately I have recently moved and it is now in storage (not too happy about that), but hopefully I can build a shed for it at our new house soon that will be bigger and better. Cheers. Ben
I normally use Oxonia Active or Iodophor. Oxonia is a great sanitiser and is used widely in the brewing and dairy industry over here in Oz. But it is dangerous when unmixed (wear goggles while mixing) so most homebrew stores don't seem to stock it. But once it is mixed it is fairly safe.

@Playborn I do drink beer (and a fair bit of it) but don't seem to put on the gut. Lucky genes I suppose.

Wow. Now thats not what you call a home brewing set up. Your set up is a brewery in a home. lol

A fellow brewer here with all the high tech gadgets. I just love the way you have all that you need and a lot more hand made items.
Great Job

Thats a mental setup you have there! Very jealous, I'm still commandeering the wife's pots and pans to make mine.

It is a good setup and I am now very happy with it (after ironing out a few initial bugs). But you can still make a darn good beer on the stove.
pintcomau 2 years ago
Do you mind if I ask how you sanitise your fermenter? What product do you use?
jonewer 2 years ago
Yep, do love drinking the finished product.
