"I wished to save you/Only to show you/That my heart is larger/Than my fate." Thank you for sharing this translation, as it lends a new passionate light to this piece. I opine that a man's contralto is a more robust and wondrous listening experience than a woman's, on average. What a curious and delightful find! You have helped me expand my musical experience. I shall replay. Thank you.
@sfkcbf Sí, lo sé y es lo que en verdad es un contratenor puro. Un contralto masculino, me parece que posee una voz más densa como Andreas Scholl, aunque es de voz más afalsetada.
I'm still not criticizing--I've always thought Bernini's self-portrait looks like someone accused of something, perfidy if not tyranny. But I might suggest, for a real viewing-enhancing experience, showing us the score.
@arlechino2 Your suggestion is the style of, yet, another often-watched channel, which has many arias with scores . I don't need to do the same thing as other contributors. I did that only once with a very popular aria (once sung by Farinelli) just to show typical vocal interpretation and elaboration in the da capo section and its remarkable variance from the initial theme. (I did not feel that you comment was a criticism in any way . . not my way of thinking.)
This is the first and only YouTube version of this so far which is maybe as good, sound-wise, as the original, Oberlin, late 50's, vinyl record. No complaints with the Caravaggio images--but it'd have been nice to see the video of Mr. Oberlin singing it.
@arlechino2 IF videos are availabe of a singer, rather than just audio tracks (which often is not the case, especially with older recordings.) When possible, other channels do that. I'm not comfortable with borrowing so closely to already existing material & then posting it as one's own. Also (e.g.,when only audio is available, I enjoy using images that either reflect closely the lyrics or feel of a work; or I enjoy melding a related theme to the audio. Images can enhance viewing experience

No digo que cante mal, pues no es así, mis respetos. Pero no oigo los graves que debería de haber.

@oceanodefuego1 Oberlin's performance, however, is a rare chance to hear a rare voice - - a male alto. He made very few recordings.
