The gears are semi-automatic. They have two paddles - one for changing up a gear and one for changing down.
In addition to those they also have two clutches which are used at the start of the race. They fully engage one clutch, and put the other at the biting point. When the lights go out they release the one that's fully engaged and adjust the other appropriately.
@johnnie9011 actually, the gears is semi-automatic... you dont need to touch a pedal when you shift.. you just press the buttons behid the wheel :D !!
@nickJod1234 there are a clutch.. but you don't acutally use it for shifting gears... !!! i do not really know.. BUT I sure know. that the gearbox is Semi-automatic..!!!!
@dj00lazz I remember hearing once that the drivers have one clutch for change up, one for change down. But I hear so little about clutches, making it seem like the drivers don't operate them like you say.
@nickJod1234 imm thats right man.. they have two of them.. the right one is for shifting up and the left is for shifting down.. but i think.. is something with the brakes the other clutches.
@Willis2992 4 wins, level on points with his teammate who recieved preferential treatment for the second half of the season whether anyone likes it or not and 1 point behind the Champion, what a terrible driver. Before Alonso hammered all of them people like Jarno Trulli, Giancarlo Fisichella, Nelson Piquet Jr and Felipe Massa were all considered good/very good or promising drivers. Alonso is the best driver in my opinion, closely followed by Hamilton.

The best Drivers from 2000 - 2009 have been 1. Michael Schumacher 2. Fernando Alonso 3. Felipe Massa 4. Lewis Hamilton 5. Juan Pablo Montoya 6. Sebastien Vettel 7. Jenson Button 8. Kimi Raikkonen 9. Mark Webber 10. Nico Rosberg
I wouldn't say he was the fastest driver on the grid, but definitely the most able at winning championships. Jenson isn't even in the same league as the other drivers you mentioned.
Yeah i think massa is the fastest, he was unlucky to lose the championship last year, but alonso more consistent, i think jenson is a very good driver, i think he hasnt had the right car to prove himself until this year. I dont think KImi is a very good driver
is really jenson a very good driver... you´d better say that he had a very good car! massa is a very good driver, kimi and lewis are really good drivers and unfortunately for a lot of people FERNANDO ALONSO IS THE BEST DRIVER
Alonso is in a awful, terrible car, and Vettle is in the second best. It's a cakewalk this year for redbull and brawn. I can almost promise you Alonso is the most talented driver on the grid, and I don't even like him that much. Trulli ftw!
well, Schumacher was not arroganz, so was not Damon Hill and Rubbens Barichello also isn´t. I do not mind Hammilton. At least he didn´t show off his achievements like Alonso with statements such as: "I will leave Formulat 1 after becoming champion twice". Who the f**k is he? He is no legend, no genius compared to Schumacher or even Mika Hakinnen. These guys were respectful.
@beyblader10171 Grateful? Alonso earned his way to Mclaren by having 2 world championships unlike Hamilton who never earned his seat. You should just be gratful Hamilton is driving at Mclaren and didn't have to earn his way to a top team like everyone else has.
not you again, ill have to hammer more sense into you.
Hamilton already earned his way through winning gp2 titles, formula renault titles on his first or second attempt. YOU ARE missing the BIG point, it doesnt matter where a driver starts his career, if he can drive fast, he can drive fast. Hamilton was put in a mclaren straightaway and was quick. give other drivers a mclaren in 2007 for their debuts and they would mess it up.
@beyblader10171 Oh really? I don't recall any other rookie driver getting a seat at a top team just because they won GP2 titles. Care to name a few? Oh and it's " Can you confirm you understood THAT message" If your going to quote someone, get it right. LMAO!
@beyblader10171 You need to get off you're high horse! Hamilton was lucky to drive for Mclaren in his rookie season, while Alonso earned his way there. The end.
hahaha haha is that the best you can come up with??
DID you read my argument?
I said that it doesn't matter whether they earned the seat or not, the bottom line is that hamilton matched alonso as a rookie speaks incredible volumes. That last response just proved that your argument has no substance. Don't waste my time, understand ??
@beyblader10171 Of course it matters. A Hamilton fan saying Alonso should just be happy he has a seat at Mclaren is pure arrogance and hypocrisy when Hamilton shouldn't of even been at Mclaren in the first place. Are you that stupid that you can't see that or do you just not care?
it doesnt matter who on earth is in that seat, look at Ide the former super aguri driver in 06. he was a terrible racer and yet we get people like sato pushing their car to the limit.
if a 19 year old f1 driver is better than a 27 year old driver, why should the 19 year old driver not be allowed to join a top team based on your argument?
and plus hamilton was on the mclaren drivers programme since he was a kid so hushhhhhhhhhh.
@beyblader10171 Why? Because most drivers have to earn their way to top teams through hard work just like Alonso and every other driver in F1.. oh wait... I forgot. Lewis is special. Silly me...
@aieljose I'm a fan of both Hamilton and Alonso, is that weird? I think they're the two greatest drivers on the grid at the moment. Instead of fighting how about we hate Red Bull together ok? :P
Hamilton worked his ass off to get that seat, as did Alonso. They both worked their ways up form an early age and gave their 110% to be where they are. No doubt about that. If you don't see them both being on a similar level when it comes to pure driving ability you're blind.
@bob333336 Sure hamilton has speed, no doubt but thats an overly simplistic way of looking at it. He makes countless errors which really add up over a season. Who would have thought jenson would be tied with him on points? Not many. All due to his "go all out Kamikaze style" He needs to learn more patience and take more of a methodical approach to his driving which will probably come once he becomes a bit more mature. Alonso on the other hand is the complete package and the standings show that.
@aieljose You must admit though, it does make for some entertaining racing. That's what I love about Hamilton, that and he's like a little kid on the inside. :P
@aieljose Hamilton is my favorite, followed by Alonso, and Idk, I seam to really like Kamui Kobayashi and find myself cheering him on too. On a side note. I hope Vettel looses this weekend. :P
@bob333336 haha! That makes two of us. I wouldn't be suprised if there is a massive pile up in the first corner and button inherited the lead. Rain is expected so anything is possible.
@aieljose Sebastian Vettel makes Alonso fans like Hamilton and vice versa. And if that's not saying something, IDK what is. Vettel has only won 1 race without starting on the front row. *fingers crossed* Lets hope he repeats his normal trend again. All we need to do is punt Vettel off 4 times. 4 no scores. That's all. Please God, I want that more than I want John Boehner to catch on fire. Some body get Sato in an HRT! ROFL!
